We already know what’s going to happen. We saw it during the pandemic. The government paid people not to work, so they didn’t.

Also, how does UBI work with open borders and/or mass immigration? Does the entire world get free money from Canada?

Savings and birth rights of Canadians given away to the third world.

All so trudeau can get more voters.

Sounds like treason.

The government paid people not to work, so they didn’t.

Yep. I was one of them.

I got laid off, and lounged around playing vidya for like 8 months all while making more than I did working 9 hour days as a delivery driver. I had basically zero reason to look for a job while getting all that money. When it finally dried up, that is when I started looking.

Now I've been employed for 3 years straight, because I had an incentive.

Just normal state/federal unemployment. That was during the whole covid stimulus package years so it was higher than normal unemployment checks, but similar to normal welfare checks for say, a single mom of three getting money from the state.

Everyone gets it except Canadian taxpayers. They've taken our guns away, and the right to protest unless it's for raping murdering terrorists. No agenda here.

Even sleepy Japan couldn't put up with Abe for some no nonsense reason. But in Canada, the lunatics in power can do no wrong.

In fact they will be children. Papa will give them their allowance and they'll do their hobbies and play with toys.

I'm not going to claim that it wasn't always the case that 90% of people can aspire to be little more than slaves, but I've definitely seen a major trend toward people wasting their own potential and choosing to sit at home, watch TV, and get high instead of doing literally anything at all with themselves.

I myself am somewhat guilty of this. It's hard to get motivated to self improve when you have no unfulfilled needs.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 29 ▼
– Aphrael 29 points 2 years ago +29 / -0

It's also hard to get motivated to self-improve when you look around and realize that you won't be the recipient of any of the benefits of that self-improvement.

It's fine and dandy to claim "getting better is its own reward", but I'd rather not empower evil people. I'll improve in the ways that genuinely benefit me, and if I find myself behind a genuinely good man or woman, I'm happy to push. That said, I'm done pushing for the sake of pushing. I'm done having my goodwill and productive effort stolen by people who could give two shits about my well-being. Christian ethics work okay in a predominantly Christian world, but that isn't the world we live in right now.

Some are unimprovable. Until we predict before birth who will be too dim to work at anything that pays a living wage, UBI might be useful.

You're failing to see the ulterior motive here. A populace that's dependent upon the government is a populace that cannot rebel against said government. At least that's how they see it.

Oh look, it's the government swooping in to save us from the government that caused the issues they're saving us from.

This is only going to make it worse.

Much worse.

UBI is great on paper, and can be useful in some small really tight knit communities. But across Canada? This is going to be so bad.

This is a wealth transfer to the LPC's voter base.

Canada Revenue Agency reports that for tax season 2021, there were ~8M taxpayers in the $49k or less tax bracket, with the largest clusters in the 18-34 and Women 55+ age groups.

With women accounting for ~57% of all the $49k or less taxpayers.

To nobody's surprise, the LPC's largest voter groups, according to Decision Canada, are 18-34 and Women 55+, which also happen to be the weaker demographic voter groups for the CPC. The CPC's larger voter group is Men 35-54, which happens to be the largest taxpayer group by revenue (the group who will be paying for this UBI program).

What a fucking coincidence!

permalink save report block reply
▲ 7 ▼
– TriangleGang 7 points 2 years ago +7 / -0

I think at this point it's pretty obvious that women never should have been allowed to vote. Although if you point that out to normies you'll get tarred and feathered.

A near identical proxy that would be more palatable is to prevent people who aren't net taxpayers from voting. It makes complete sense, because they don't have any skin in the game. They're basically debating how to spend other people's money, so of course they'll vote to spend it on themselves.

Gun control has entered the chat.

Decision making and policy development is supposed to be an iterative process were you identify a problem, develop solutions, implement, and monitor results. The monitoring stage identifies new problems and the process starts over again.

What's truly interesting (and frightening) about the left is not how they fail to properly monitor and course correct when they make policies, but how they're able to transform every failure into a justification to go further forward. "You're doing it wrong" is their answer for every real world criticism based on empirical data.

When universal basic income fails, they'll double down use that as an excuse to give people more money or more free shit rather than question the foundational reasoning behind UBI works in real life.

▲ 4 ▼
– WeedleTLiar 4 points 2 years ago +4 / -0

Nah, they tried in Ontario, then the fat retard Premier cancelled it halfway through.

Now you might say "good, that commie BS doesn't work anyway", but we could have proved it.

Now we gotta do it the hard way.

To be fair, provinces can't print money, so it was doomed from the start. Not that nationwide UBI isn't doomed as well, but they can paper over deficit spending with fresh money until the dam breaks and hyperinflation begins.

It'll be interesting to see what Canada considers a "livable" income considering how completely removed from reality their officials are. Watch it be like $200 a month plus some equally insane $5500 a month per child you claim.

Just in case anyone is not keeping score, UBI trails have been tried countless times and have failed every single time for the exact same reasons. So naturally Canada wants to implement it nation wide. You get more of what you pay for. If you pay people to not work, you get more people not working.

Canada is beyond fucked. Quality of everything already cratered from diversity infecting everything. Most notably Canada is drowning in retarded doctors who can barely function (They are licensed in their home country, which is a shithole with zero standards) and this will be the main thing that blows up in the next 5 years. Do not get sick if you are in Canada and do everything you can to stay healthy and out of hospitals.

Well, how much is it? If average rent is thrown into the amount, it ought to be pretty hefty.

As long as you deny it to non-citizens, this may very well be the only solution to economies that starve their unskilled workers and might be preferable to slaving away from the neck down until you're worn out and put on the trash heap. Speaking from the US perspective, It makes far more sense than piecing off the dense and unskilled poor with welfare and food stamps.

Something has to be done to take care of the terminally stupid, and I always knew that the IQ problem everyone likes to deny would return to bite us in the collective ass.
