They think this Star Trek wannabe shit will cause a golden age of the arts, creativity and volunteer caretaking. Productivity will skyrocket too somehow.
In fact they will be children. Papa will give them their allowance and they'll do their hobbies and play with toys.
They'll be worse than children.
Children have potential.
I'm not going to claim that it wasn't always the case that 90% of people can aspire to be little more than slaves, but I've definitely seen a major trend toward people wasting their own potential and choosing to sit at home, watch TV, and get high instead of doing literally anything at all with themselves.
I myself am somewhat guilty of this. It's hard to get motivated to self improve when you have no unfulfilled needs.
It's also hard to get motivated to self-improve when you look around and realize that you won't be the recipient of any of the benefits of that self-improvement.
It's fine and dandy to claim "getting better is its own reward", but I'd rather not empower evil people. I'll improve in the ways that genuinely benefit me, and if I find myself behind a genuinely good man or woman, I'm happy to push. That said, I'm done pushing for the sake of pushing. I'm done having my goodwill and productive effort stolen by people who could give two shits about my well-being. Christian ethics work okay in a predominantly Christian world, but that isn't the world we live in right now.

What was the Japanese script's term for such "magicless" people that they treated as cattle?
(for the unaware: it's goys)
i remember doing a triple take when i saw that
You're failing to see the ulterior motive here. A populace that's dependent upon the government is a populace that cannot rebel against said government. At least that's how they see it.
