Starfield: Pay $60 to get nagged at by women and homosexuals (apparently)

Funnily enough, if i recall correctly there was a patch for exactly that as the companions were too damn horny and wanted to fuck after almost nothing so it got adjusted.
Probably because the "people" who made it don't believe in closed relationships in the first place, and they forgot not everyone thinks like themselves.
Pathfinder: Kingmaker actually goes out of its way to address this with the player in multiple ways. IE, you might end up confronted further down the road if you've been getting deeply serious with multiple characters (not just from a friendship counter, but after making you've been making a number of clear and explicit dialogue choices).
One or two characters, iirc, openly allow for open relationships, but the writing makes it clear that they want to be sure there'[s some open communication going on and that the player's being at least a little mature about it. Other characters though encourage you to make up your mind and make an honest and open decision. In general it was handled pretty damn well, almost right off the bat.
Not that the way Kingmaker handles it is entirely new, a few other RPG's have done this in a somewhat similar way in the past. Even from a basic design and programming standpoint though it sounds like BG3 totally half-assed the way they implemented it. Perhaps in a partially deliberate way.
Honestly Kingmaker seemed just as bad. The couple you save from slavers both hit on you if you talk to them twice. I was like WTF, kill them. Kingmaker had horrible companions, is not that I did not care about them but I hated them to the point I made mercenaries and played with those. I understand that the second game has better companions but looking and seeing that there were no white male companions was a hard pass for me.
They hit on you once or twice yes, but when you give them a firm "no" and they'll stop with that shit. I actually liked Octavia, the Wizard chick. But the Half-Orc can fuck right off. I also liked a good majority of the other party characters. Certainly more than I have in a lot of other RPG's, including Mass Effect.
The only characters I didn't like were the Cleric and the Half-Orc. Valerie was... strange and kind of boring, but she's also a Paladin off-shoot, so much of her personality's about what I'd expect.
From what I've heard about BG3, they basically won't take no for an answer and will keep trying to pester the player anytime an event or dialogue scene is triggered.
It was definitely better from a romance point of view but overall either I did not care or I disliked all of them, personality wise they are meh, compare the bard with Grobnar from NWN2, there is also no white human male companion and both the barbarian and the paladin are women that from the start makes me not a fan of the game.
Sounds like the bad harem ending in a visual novel.
Yeah, there's definitely some similarities there. And a lot of these subplot events occur at a gradual pace. The game also runs off of a calendar system for a lot of the overall game's progression, which I guess shares some similarities to how VN's are often structured. This of course has a lot of pros and cons in a fullbore RPG.
One thing I will confess is that I did have to play through a lot of the game with a strategy guide to help min-max on certain decisions and preferred results. It's not the kind of thing I'd normally do with RPG's, but on my first attempt I nearly got screwed over during this one chapter that REALLY forces you into a strategic corner if you weren't prepared before-hand. I ended up using the guide as a little bit of a crutch here and there for some of the more complex decision-making actions.
I wouldn't be so sure that it shows bad coding. Being in a relationship rather than just being in "situationships" and "open relationships" considered morally repressive to Leftists. Marriage and babies enslave women, so it's correct for women to sleep around regardless of "relationship status". Same with gay men: but marriage is a cis-heteronormative patriarchal construct, so it's even more important for gay men to either never get married, or sleep around when they do.
Woke shit has always been a way of trying to guarantee income from the ideologically captive. That's the whole point behind: go broke, get woke, croak.
It's a defensive mechanism to appease institutionally captured consoomers followed by massive partisan investment by ideological hedge funds devoted to propping up those political causes.
The game already took ages to come out of early access
One of the biggest reasons I have against even trying the game is how aggressively annoying and gay looking that one vampire dude is on the cover of the game.
Like, I have multiple friends I trust highly singing its praises, but every time I look at it his flaming smirk is just there to turn me off.
I was ok with him early since it reminded me of Milo but the darling line gets old very fast. Does not help that his story is pathetic. Is clear that the game wants you to sympathize with him but he just seems pathetic and his master just generic white evil guy with cringe dialogue that was better set in he-man then BG. For all the leftists talk about grey morality, why are their villains so cartoonish evil?
As long as SJWs are loud, there will never be a western Belldandy.
Synthetic man did a review where he went on several shooting sprees. Just about anyone you would like to shoot is somehow "essential" and thus unkillable.
I mean, it is a Bethesda game. You haven't been able to really do that since Morrowind.
It's one major difference between Fallout 3 and New Vegas as well. The latter only has one unkillable main quest character (Yes Man) in the entire game, and that's because he's designed to be the catch-all fallback option if you fuck up every other questline.
Skyrim fallout4 you maybe had 10 npcs which are immortal, in Starfield its almost every named npc.
I can't compare to Starfield, having not played it, but Skyrim has a whole pile of NPCs who are immortal for some or all of the game. And for FO4, while it is a bit better than Skyrim, someone went and made a mod to remove essential status
But that says "Marked as unessential (if applicable)", havent played skyrim in a while but usually only the Jarls, Guildquestlines and Mainstory npcs were immortal and some could even lose that status once they werent relevant anymore. You still had like 60% named npcs like merchants you could just kill. In Starfield the most basic unimportant merchant in the corner of the map is immortal.
Starfield makes it a lot worse to the point where you have a guy telling you he wants to kill you but if you shoot him he is esential.
They aren't just unkillable.
Bullets fucking phase through them like they have King Crimson.
Essential flags can be switched off from the console. Well, that's what I learned in Skyrim.
From what I can tell based on reviews, not if they're linked to a quest or service. Which means the only NPCs you can kill are unimportant filler characters that are just there to make the cities look populated. I've even heard reports that there's one character who engages with you in a dialogue where one of the options is to attack him, but even after you select it, he STILL remains unkillable!
Yeah that's the bald nigger space policeman who wants to blackmail you into being a glowie plant in a pirate fleet, so they can collect enough evidence to arrest all the space pirates who constantly attack people. Oh, and he insists that you don't kill anyone while you do it. It's as stupid as it sounds.
well at least you can say fuck you and then join the pirates anyway, then raid his capital ship when he attacks and put him in prison to humilate him. Was one of the few decision like that. And he was so damn rightous and full of himself.
I never forgave him for roping me into his moron crusade, with safe words. Shot him and his deputy in their stupid moralizing faces. Doesn't help that most of starfield seems like the continent of Africa suddenly jumped into space, displacing most other populations, and after centuries still retain their African accents.
Pretty sure you cant kill him anyway in that last crimson fleet quest where you raid his capital ship, at least I saw a video where that wasnt the case. I thought humilating him by imprisoning him is better, just killing him would proof him right that the pirates are just animals and criminals. And I didnt want to proof him right, even tho he was an exception since you kill your way through just to get to him but that was self defense.
I shot him in his Stupidy McStupidyface. Any non-animal that coerces you into being their cat's paw, is best being Conaned.
You certainly have the option to 'persuade' him to come quietly.
Yeah but he'd be dead so... worth it.
1 more on the pile of thousands of lifeless npcs doesnt make a difference and I like a good feud, thats what made shadows of mordor so good when the orcs came back for more and everytime they got more injured. Makes the game more personal. A good example would be Angry Joe vs Olgoth that was funny. But yeah in Starfield he will probably not come back.
someone on here posted how there was a space bus full of kids that just no-selled everything he shot at it
Don't ask me how I know, but the kids are still immortal.
I think with cheat engine you can disable it, based mods has that.
One guy wanted to report me and put a bounty on me in the story once I left the area, i tried to kill him as it was going to be an easy kill, bullets bounced off.
Immersive as always Todd
Someone needs to make a mod where the universe is taken over by a Matriarchal Feminist Society that hates men and fucks joggers. You're a White Man whose ancestors were Ancient Romans and you go around freeing the universe from the Matriarchy.
That one sounds impossible 👀
It's mostly a genocide simulator.
So is Stellaris.
You can literally conquer entire races and turn them into food, but the idea of having a simple mod to make all humans you can recruit White is just too much.
99 euro is more like $105. In any case, you're a dumbass if you preorder or buy an early release. Wait for the reviews
I can't trust reviews period. You're either dealing with paid shills with biased reviews, or randos with a bone to pick and can't get past their own personal political views. God damn it do I miss Total Biscuit.... I could listen to that man complain about FoV for days....
TotalBiscuit BECAME one of those randos who couldn't get past his own personal political views.
He had his redemption arc though. But we never got to see how he'd follow through with it in the end.
The dude was riddled with cancer by that point. His brain was being pumped with all sorts of toxic shit when his liver started giving out.
I actually like his rhetorical tactic here. Probably because he's a "Useful Idiot", but you can see the utility of Leftist Rhetorical Warfare when used against Leftists:
Cut the emotional attacks off before they happen, show that you see them coming, demand respect (tone police as necessary).
Use "Lived Experiences" as a weapon. Lived Experiences can't be invalidated, only dismissed. Hence, dismissal serves the opposite emotional purpose and re-enforces the point of the complainant for having their "Lived Experiences" dismissed. This is also a good time to inject an argument of "inclusiveness".
Total rejection of dispute by demanding adherence to a specific set of premises. Now, normally the Left sets the premises way to far as a matter of conquering opposition (Trans Women Are Women). He's setting his premises within a reasonable base line: "verbal abuse without the ability to respond is not acceptable"
Using the weapons granted to you, and wielding them to maintain argument in the bound you set.
This is my favorite. Absolutely zero-tolerance for the mud-slinging and character assassination that is going to happen when the Left attacks.
I grant you that all of us engage in mud-slinging here. But no decent person here is going to stand here and say that due to someone saying, "shut up fag" should someone get removed. We're operating on a completely different level. But you'd better fucking believe that the Leftists in the Steams forum are absolutely abiding by OP's argumentation.
"You are making people uncomfortable by using transphobic words like women instead of womxn. We don't tolerate hatred here. So go and fucking kill yourself, sweaty." is the very definition of "Repressive Tolerance" that the Left are operating under; and it's their first reaction. So counter it by tone policing them by saying their inevitable personal attacks (and attacks on character) are invalidating your lived experiences and won't be tolerated.
Unfortunately, it doesn't matter in the slightest, because leftists don't have principles, much less consistent ones. The only time leftist rhetoric works against leftists, is if it's used by a leftist, against a leftist, arguing for a leftist policy or belief...and the arguer has to be higher on the progressive stack, or arguing for a policy/belief that is higher priority.
It's almost completely useless for a non-leftist, because as soon as they see a "right wing" (non-left) position argued, they jump down your throat regardless. You're a racist, a bigot, a Nazi. Doesn't matter how much leftoid-speak your couch your statements in. Heck, he starts off with using phrases like "ugly women" and "all the dudes are gay or black." No amount of rhetoric is going to stop the cultural locusts from jumping down OP's throat on this.
I noticed that, too.
I wouldn't doubt it if this is actually an elaborate 4chan troll, because he's using all of the Leftist language against them to preemptively safeguard his argument.
I applaud him that much.
But I wouldn't doubt it if that thread gets quickly locked by the mods before normies passing by start "noticing" the trends in the game he brought up in his post.
Is Imp secretly one of the devs playing the long con of recruiting converts?
He's crazy enough that I wouldn't put anything past him.
Though what if you play as a woman? Are they still as nasty and condescending? Maybe it is just a game for masochists.
Yes.
Remember when they got super pissy that people mostly just made boring brown haired guys in their character creator? I swear they tailored this games dialogue with that in mind.
Starfield did? I remember Baldur's Gate 3 complained about "basic Vault Dweller" or something. Which is hilarious, since they do everything to stop you from building that character; defaults to female (sorry, Body Type 1), defaults to Elf I think, the default human is black, etc. And the dreaded Gamers were still like "Nah, White human male please and thank you." Some of that was changed after early access, so I'm wondering if those metrics still hold true.
Remember when Fallout76 came out and it was like “wow, what a rare miss”. Crazy how fast life comes at ya
From what I can tell they've more or less reskinned 76 and put it in space, same bullet sponge enemies, same retarded stealth mechanics, same bullshit static health bars on the enemy. In essence same bullshit Bethesda, I am not optimistic about scrolls 6 at all
Turbo-Laser Ninjadragon: I get what you wrote and why you wrote it, but you're not scoring any points with "modern audiences" or the MSM. In their mind you're a bigot, case closed.
And if noticing things makes you a bigot, then I'm a bigot too. And I will continue to be a bigot.
Maybe I just haven't gotten far enough, but I haven't really seen anything so egregious. Yeah, it's annoying to see the gay flirt options, but it's there for someone to click I guess. Though the second Barret started opening up about his dead gay lover (spoilers?) I tabbed and walked away. Couldn't possibly care less. As a character, the dude is pretty cool, but the gay thing just came out of fucking nowhere.
As for Sarah... Fucking "I don't mind if you do some shady shit from time to time, because some rules need to be bent" lying judgmental bitchy Sarah... I just dumped her ass in the ship and ignored her. Sarah was really the only woman in the game to really get on my nerves. What's her face running the UC was a bit of a pill, but she's pretty much a corpo, so what do you expect? Gender wouldn't change that.
IF I even bother bringing a companion anywhere, I just go for my Robot Boy. He doesn't judge and he rarely ever chimes in mid convo to interrupt. He's a good lad. He's built like an American football player, so he does body block me at times though. I miss my glitchy FO4 dog.... If anyone wants to point me in the direction of a doggo companion you'd be doing me a real solid.
Now if I could only get everyone on the ship to not verbally assault me at the same god damn time when I'm taking off. Every motherfucker has to have something to yammer on about. Often times ad nauseam.
Watch the review by SyntheticMan on youtube, and you'll see what the guy in the OP is talking about.
It's fine until you have to rescue Sam's dads' dildo collection from a cave shaped like a butthole.
Kidding. I do feel like the game is being rated on a very steep negative handicap for what are slight infractions, a few of which have already blown up in Bethesda's face.
But I think a lot of us are scared that within 3 years the entire industry is going to be lost the same way TV and movies already are. I think the nature of gaming and gamers has slowed the push, but they have not and will not stop trying.
Woke filtering is now a part of game buying decision making and is its own red flag to people who hate it. The problem is that they outright advertise it as included, which immediately flags the game for many, which makes us feel like the pool of viable games is shrinking even if it's just token marketing (like the black girl from Remnant 2 who gets shelved after 5 minutes.)
So people can either dismiss the small things (even Ghost of Tsushima had some stray gay in it) or people can complain. Gamers like to complain. It doesn't make them wrong, but they do enjoy a good hate bandwagon.
Not really. I think more than anything it's being downplayed for as bad as they are.
It already defiles the reality of how human beings work by labeling them as "Type 1" and "Type 2". Last I checked, I have never met anyone who is physiologically "Type 1" or "Type 2"... what even is that?
The fact they can't put something as simple as "Male/Female" for the gender option is a HUGE red flag. It means it's purposely getting you to comply with denying the basic facts about human beings. Anyone glossing over that is already lost to the Woke mind virus, because that's also being pushed everywhere else in media and in real life (including bathrooms).
But it goes beyond that... the game even includes the pronoun nonsense. A lot of people are willing to overlook the Type 1/Type 2 nonsense (I, however, am not willing to overlook it) but some people (but not all) had a hard time overcoming the pronoun nonsense, and rightfully so. Because now not only are they forcibly making you comply with denying basic biological genders, but now they're forcibly making you comply with the notion that a man can be a woman and a woman can be a man.
Once again, this is everywhere. The pronoun nonsense is even on job applications, social media portals, and even places like LinkedIn. It's not just obnoxious, it's an affront to reality.
Yet here it is, in a game that's supposed to be escapism, yet is mirroring all the worst parts of real-life, Left-wing identity politics.
And what's worse is that that's just the character customisation. That's not even talking about all the fat, ugly brown people who make up the NPC population; the obnoxious over-promotion of homosexual heroes; storylines designed not to offend anyone; and of course the overt girl-boss syndrome nearly every female character exhibits.
Essentially, nothing about the game's world feels authentic. It all feels like a facade of Left-wing checkboxes with two-decade's old gameplay mechanics tacked on. It's a poor imitation of what modern gaming should be based on the tech we have available right now, and it's an even bigger abomination when it comes to wearing a skin-suit pretending to be engaging entertainment, all while pushing disruptive and subversive political agendas that coincide with the real-life destruction of Western culture and society.
I don't disagree with anything you pointed out. The reality is that nobody who isn't trans is going to pick alternative pronouns or voice options. For as many people as this "appeased" (give them everything they ask for and they'll think up something later and then complain they didn't get that too), it pissed off 20x more. Why not let the 2% or 0.5% be the ones who have to mod their stuff to make it how they want it. Let them put the work in.
But to some devs it is just type A type B to avoid the shit storm and move on because it's one line of code to change the name and avoid the backlash. Even the last few Monster Hunter games did this, if I remember right.
It just hit me that to be a developer must be a real headache being caught between the volatile gaming community at large and the skinless alphabet community losing their shit about literally anything.
Starfield did suck for the character creator being 100% shit and the fact that it was very deliberately difficult to make a character that appeared caucasian without looking deformed.
But garbage like Last of Us 2 surpasses it by miles, and that's the real depth of forced bullshit we should look out for. Starfield is compromised, but there's some usable meat on the corpse. Dread the day we can't even get that out of a AAA release.
There are so many good games out there. Why are we even entertaining playing something mediocre because "there's some usable meat on the corpse?"
It's not about ratings, it's about the direction of the industry going forward with a new cancer attached to it. The old problems like technical issues or ugly art direction were fixable or at least had some excuse.
I was just about ready to believe you. Not much surprises me anymore, buuut yeah.. Bethesda wouldn't go so far... Cyberpunk though....
Yeah, I am aware of the hate bandwagon trend. Go to any launch day steam forum for any game with even a hint of bad public relations and people go fucking rabid with it. I just kinda hate how the whole anti woke thing is blinding people to a point that they seem to be seeing it even in places it isn't happening. They are literally turning into the monsters they want to fight. Like, I almost didn't even give Baldur's Gate 3 a shot because of how crazy people were acting about it. It painted the game in such a negative light for me that I almost really missed out of a legitimately good game.
But you're right... gamers like a good shit fling. I need to stop standing in the crossfire.
Yeah I haven't noticed anything either except the ugly people.
I kinda click through the dialog. I want to kill things. Apparently melee is not well supported which is disappointing since that was the best way to play fo4. Which is just weird because they have weapons with animations; just not good ones. Something that can probably easily be fixed by mods or DLC; I suspect we may see some DLC about it. It would probably be better if Beth does it since modders rarely include animations.
Yeah, I've played a fair bit (got it for free with my GPU, before any purists jump down my throat), but not much of the story, so can't talk much on that. But, aside from everyone being a girlboss, nonwhite, or gay (which is mostly just an eyeroll from me here and there), it's not too bad. It's annoying, but not gamebreaking. I've enjoyed exploring, crafting broken-ass weapons to oneshot everything, and things like that. My micro-review would be: It's not as good as the hype (would have been impossible to be), better than I expected (was worried it would be way too empty, but is only a little empty, and feels mostly alright after a bit), with a spattering of woke nonsense here and there. One of my primary complaints would be it's a bit disjointed, and because of all the planets loses some of that "Bethesda open world magic" of their past games, as far as exploration goes.
Really? I semi-jokingly called him gay right off the bat. He just had that energy.
Yeah, she's so whiny.
The only problem - aside from companion AI being completely retarded in general - is you can't give him any equipment, like you can the humans, which means he's much less powerful than he could be.
So pretty much any job now.
$105.66!?!
Good grief. I'm still not sure if I'm going to waste the money when it hits $5 on the next Steam Day sale.
Not all the dudes are gay or black. But a lot of them are or they are weak and a puppet of a woman. Also the first bethesda game I didnt want to finish, but to be fair I could have ignored most of the characters if at least the exploration was fun but even that was worse than fallout4. And that steam post probably got deleted I assume.
Yeah I couldn't find the op on steam
And the Premium Edition is $99.99, so plenty of people excited about it - such as the Steam OP - did pay a hundred for it. That just feels steep even if the game is amazing. Worth it, sure, if it's amazing and you get tons of fun with it, but I still don't like these creeping prices on principle. I remember the days when AAA games were $30. Meanwhile the media shills are trying to tell use games have always been $50, and this is just finally the economy catching up, and
$60oh sorry, we're already on to $70 games are just fine, and actually a good thing. Meanwhile the devs are getting lazier and lazier, and plenty of the games are basically built already because they're just rehashing their last game.Yeah, the shills can miss me with this "$70 games are a good thing" nonsense.
Can't wait for Hammerfell to be the same way. I hope Bethesda gets 'absorbed' by another company.
Bethesda was purchased by Microsoft already.
I recently downloaded it but have barely played it. A guy at my church said it’s fun but definitely “current year”
Why not wait until you'll have time to play to buy it? You only waste money buying when it's new.
Well I thought I was going to have some free time but this month at work has been super busy. Definitely next month I’ll play more
Maybe we're reading different questions, but I had a relatively positive impression of Quora. Mainly because they've left pro-MGTOW responses up without going full tranny janny.
It's thrown in what they think conservatives want so they can get a "well... I agree with some of what you said, maybe I'll consider the rest of your argument"
I get most of my Quora stuff from search engines, so I don't have a feed. I'm really not too surprised though. Commies infest everything that doesn't gatekeep them.
Your feed? How does quora work? I know it bothers you to sign up whenever you click on a thread but does it really add anything of worth?
I actually signed up some time ago literally just to upvote Conservative/Right-wing answers on certain posts. But I don't think it serves a purpose beyond that...?
But why, quora rarely gives useful answers, it's only a step better than ask yahoo from back in the day
"Sir, we've got a transmission coming through the wormhole!"
"What's it's access code?"
"..."
"Well?"
"It's old, but it's still valid. That being said, you might want to take a look at it."
"... Oh my god..."
