Yeah, my computer-illiterate parents have been using Linux Mint for 12 years. I turned on autoupdates and Timeshift backups... It just works, and switching from XP was a lot easier than figuring out Windows 8. All they care about is that it has a web browser (Firefox), email (Thunderbird), and can print out tide charts from an old program that doesn't work under newer Windows.

I find AMD for GPU and Brother for network printer work out of the box.

I'm not sure about the politics, but there are systemd-free distros like Void and a couple forks like Devuan and Artix. They would still use the same kernel though, not sure if there is any way around that.

Take a crosswalk where idiots do burnouts at night all the time, paint it funny colours, and suddenly you have an ample supply of hate crimes.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri is better than any Civilization.

The Warrior's bland acronym, MMI, obscures the true horror of this monstrosity. Its inventors promise a new era of genius, but meanwhile unscrupulous power brokers use its forcible installation to violate the sanctity of unwilling human minds. They are creating their own private army of demons.

Why isn't consenting to an intrauterine device a mandatory requirement for recruiting women? There are some IUDs that can be put in for 10 years. Put in on enlistment, replace if necessary, then remove upon leaving.

He posted this photo before the sh**ting from the school bathroom.

I was hoping it was just a school shitting.

Trans with anime girl avatar, what are the odds?

Yeah, I might have kept watching if they had recruited that spiderwoman to kill Mother Worlders who had wrecked her planet instead of sitting back and watching a fight to the death over some kid.

Also, what's with them just (presumably) leaving the robot and the turncoat in the village?

Only a little woke, but still trash. Bad writing and bad special effects. And the energy weapons have hammers lol.

Re: Total Annihilation, the computer was more often a victim of that from me. You could manually have your rockets or plasma turrets attack any dot on your radar map, so I would destroy enemy bases without even seeing them.

Don't forget the FIGG bridge engineers:

“Hey Tom, this is Denney Pate with FIGG bridge engineers. Calling to, uh, share with you some information about the FIU pedestrian bridge and some cracking that’s been observed on the north end of the span, the pylon end of that span we moved this weekend. Um, so, uh, we’ve taken a look at it and, uh, obviously some repairs or whatever will have to be done but from a safety perspective we don’t see that there’s any issue there so we’re not concerned about it from that perspective although obviously the cracking is not good and something’s going to have to be, ya know, done to repair that. At any rate, I wanted to chat with you about that because I suspect at some point that’s gonna get to your desk. So, uh, at any rate, call me back when you can. Thank you. Bye.”

Yeah, venison sausage or hamburger is too lean and honestly needs some pork or beef fat added to the mixer. But injecting fat into a steak is disgusting.

My schools never had paid cafeterias, let alone free lunches. Just bring your own lunch ot go home for lunch.

Subnautica (the original, not Below Zero) - You've crashlanded onto an ocean world. It's amazing, beautiful, and occasionally terrifying.

Lately I've been playing Kingdom Come Deliverance. A very realistic and scenic game set in 15th century Bohemia. The complete pack with the DLC is regularly on sale on either Steam or GOG.

My favourite Civ game is Alpha Centauri, available on GOG.

Baldur's Gate 1+2 are good, dunno about the new one which doesn't really have much to do with the originals. I'll probably pick up 3 at a discount once it is patched and has mods etc.

This is a guy who didn't immediately buy a gun, pack his bags and GTFO, or both after this happened:

I feel sorry for poor Mason, the elderly ginger cat, though. Probably smarter than his owner. I hope he is ok and someone is looking after him.

Though what if you play as a woman? Are they still as nasty and condescending? Maybe it is just a game for masochists.

"As Appleyard told a panel at the Banff World Media Festival (BANFF) earlier this month, the series was entirely financed out of Canada. Funding sources included the Canada Media Fund, Ontario regional tax credits, and Corus, which gave them a licence fee. Global distribution, sales and licensing team Boat Rocker Rights provided a distribution advance to fill the gap."

Nothing under the table about it, unfortunately. Every dime this grifter spent probably came from taxes one way or another.

These companies spend more on marketing in the US than on R&D, sometimes much more. Other countries have strict laws limiting advertising. The US is only subsidising ads, drug reps, and free samples.
