Maybe I just haven't gotten far enough, but I haven't really seen anything so egregious. Yeah, it's annoying to see the gay flirt options, but it's there for someone to click I guess. Though the second Barret started opening up about his dead gay lover (spoilers?) I tabbed and walked away. Couldn't possibly care less. As a character, the dude is pretty cool, but the gay thing just came out of fucking nowhere.
As for Sarah... Fucking "I don't mind if you do some shady shit from time to time, because some rules need to be bent" lying judgmental bitchy Sarah... I just dumped her ass in the ship and ignored her. Sarah was really the only woman in the game to really get on my nerves. What's her face running the UC was a bit of a pill, but she's pretty much a corpo, so what do you expect? Gender wouldn't change that.
IF I even bother bringing a companion anywhere, I just go for my Robot Boy. He doesn't judge and he rarely ever chimes in mid convo to interrupt. He's a good lad. He's built like an American football player, so he does body block me at times though. I miss my glitchy FO4 dog.... If anyone wants to point me in the direction of a doggo companion you'd be doing me a real solid.
Now if I could only get everyone on the ship to not verbally assault me at the same god damn time when I'm taking off. Every motherfucker has to have something to yammer on about. Often times ad nauseam.
Watch the review by SyntheticMan on youtube, and you'll see what the guy in the OP is talking about.
It's fine until you have to rescue Sam's dads' dildo collection from a cave shaped like a butthole.
Kidding. I do feel like the game is being rated on a very steep negative handicap for what are slight infractions, a few of which have already blown up in Bethesda's face.
But I think a lot of us are scared that within 3 years the entire industry is going to be lost the same way TV and movies already are. I think the nature of gaming and gamers has slowed the push, but they have not and will not stop trying.
Woke filtering is now a part of game buying decision making and is its own red flag to people who hate it. The problem is that they outright advertise it as included, which immediately flags the game for many, which makes us feel like the pool of viable games is shrinking even if it's just token marketing (like the black girl from Remnant 2 who gets shelved after 5 minutes.)
So people can either dismiss the small things (even Ghost of Tsushima had some stray gay in it) or people can complain. Gamers like to complain. It doesn't make them wrong, but they do enjoy a good hate bandwagon.
Not really. I think more than anything it's being downplayed for as bad as they are.
It already defiles the reality of how human beings work by labeling them as "Type 1" and "Type 2". Last I checked, I have never met anyone who is physiologically "Type 1" or "Type 2"... what even is that?
The fact they can't put something as simple as "Male/Female" for the gender option is a HUGE red flag. It means it's purposely getting you to comply with denying the basic facts about human beings. Anyone glossing over that is already lost to the Woke mind virus, because that's also being pushed everywhere else in media and in real life (including bathrooms).
But it goes beyond that... the game even includes the pronoun nonsense. A lot of people are willing to overlook the Type 1/Type 2 nonsense (I, however, am not willing to overlook it) but some people (but not all) had a hard time overcoming the pronoun nonsense, and rightfully so. Because now not only are they forcibly making you comply with denying basic biological genders, but now they're forcibly making you comply with the notion that a man can be a woman and a woman can be a man.
Once again, this is everywhere. The pronoun nonsense is even on job applications, social media portals, and even places like LinkedIn. It's not just obnoxious, it's an affront to reality.
Yet here it is, in a game that's supposed to be escapism, yet is mirroring all the worst parts of real-life, Left-wing identity politics.
And what's worse is that that's just the character customisation. That's not even talking about all the fat, ugly brown people who make up the NPC population; the obnoxious over-promotion of homosexual heroes; storylines designed not to offend anyone; and of course the overt girl-boss syndrome nearly every female character exhibits.
Essentially, nothing about the game's world feels authentic. It all feels like a facade of Left-wing checkboxes with two-decade's old gameplay mechanics tacked on. It's a poor imitation of what modern gaming should be based on the tech we have available right now, and it's an even bigger abomination when it comes to wearing a skin-suit pretending to be engaging entertainment, all while pushing disruptive and subversive political agendas that coincide with the real-life destruction of Western culture and society.
I don't disagree with anything you pointed out. The reality is that nobody who isn't trans is going to pick alternative pronouns or voice options. For as many people as this "appeased" (give them everything they ask for and they'll think up something later and then complain they didn't get that too), it pissed off 20x more. Why not let the 2% or 0.5% be the ones who have to mod their stuff to make it how they want it. Let them put the work in.
But to some devs it is just type A type B to avoid the shit storm and move on because it's one line of code to change the name and avoid the backlash. Even the last few Monster Hunter games did this, if I remember right.
It just hit me that to be a developer must be a real headache being caught between the volatile gaming community at large and the skinless alphabet community losing their shit about literally anything.
Starfield did suck for the character creator being 100% shit and the fact that it was very deliberately difficult to make a character that appeared caucasian without looking deformed.
But garbage like Last of Us 2 surpasses it by miles, and that's the real depth of forced bullshit we should look out for. Starfield is compromised, but there's some usable meat on the corpse. Dread the day we can't even get that out of a AAA release.
There are so many good games out there. Why are we even entertaining playing something mediocre because "there's some usable meat on the corpse?"
I was just about ready to believe you. Not much surprises me anymore, buuut yeah.. Bethesda wouldn't go so far... Cyberpunk though....
Yeah, I am aware of the hate bandwagon trend. Go to any launch day steam forum for any game with even a hint of bad public relations and people go fucking rabid with it. I just kinda hate how the whole anti woke thing is blinding people to a point that they seem to be seeing it even in places it isn't happening. They are literally turning into the monsters they want to fight. Like, I almost didn't even give Baldur's Gate 3 a shot because of how crazy people were acting about it. It painted the game in such a negative light for me that I almost really missed out of a legitimately good game.
But you're right... gamers like a good shit fling. I need to stop standing in the crossfire.
Yeah I haven't noticed anything either except the ugly people.
I kinda click through the dialog. I want to kill things. Apparently melee is not well supported which is disappointing since that was the best way to play fo4. Which is just weird because they have weapons with animations; just not good ones. Something that can probably easily be fixed by mods or DLC; I suspect we may see some DLC about it. It would probably be better if Beth does it since modders rarely include animations.
Yeah, I've played a fair bit (got it for free with my GPU, before any purists jump down my throat), but not much of the story, so can't talk much on that. But, aside from everyone being a girlboss, nonwhite, or gay (which is mostly just an eyeroll from me here and there), it's not too bad. It's annoying, but not gamebreaking. I've enjoyed exploring, crafting broken-ass weapons to oneshot everything, and things like that. My micro-review would be: It's not as good as the hype (would have been impossible to be), better than I expected (was worried it would be way too empty, but is only a little empty, and feels mostly alright after a bit), with a spattering of woke nonsense here and there. One of my primary complaints would be it's a bit disjointed, and because of all the planets loses some of that "Bethesda open world magic" of their past games, as far as exploration goes.
Really? I semi-jokingly called him gay right off the bat. He just had that energy.
Yeah, she's so whiny.
The only problem - aside from companion AI being completely retarded in general - is you can't give him any equipment, like you can the humans, which means he's much less powerful than he could be.
