For that scenario in particular, depending on lifestyle you might want a woman who can contribute equally like if you're more living independently or if you're working from home have something more important.
The important thing is to have respect for time and or the other person's hobbies. If you demand their time when it is limited due to providing or dismiss their hobbies as 'childish', you aren't approaching the relationship from anything more than you want a devotee than a partner.

Honestly this not true, there are "acceptable" hobbies. Building things or fishing, sports, working out or hunting (in some circles) are things that girls can brag about to their friends.
A lot depends on whether she respects him for being hawt. If she sees him as an alpha the hobbies aren't a problem. It becomes a problem if she put him in the beta provider category, because at that point the hobbies become an impediment to her extracting the maximum amount of value from him before throwing him out like yesterday's garbage.
Generally speaking, once you get married women will do one of two things to your hobbies: 1. Invade them or 2. Destroy them. The goal is to have 100% ownership of your fun (which lets her charge any price she wants for it). It does not matter what those hobbies are. She does not care.
That's why you need to set the boundaries early. Say your game/bowling/fishing/poker time is MAN TIME ONLY. She is not allowed, you won't stop for her, and that is that. Never give a single inch.
There is no time spent doing things other than paying attention to her that a woman will not be jealous of. The only solution is to tell them tough shit and you don't care.

Like maybe a case could be made that too much time invested into gaming can sometimes be detrimental for a person. But instead of tackling it with a fair minded approach like that they almost always hand wave any such hobbies as being "childish" and "unworthy".
I find it especially annoying because I've been debating the pros and cons of having grown up and spent a fair bit of time gaming. Maybe too much. I dunno, but it's something where I'd rather see some legitimately honest and constructive discussion over it. Unfortunately that's something that'll almost never happen in any kind of public space, because extreme takes are all that can really be expected.

The point many like Walsh often avoid is these same arguements were made against baseball 150 years ago, and persisted for decades after. Somehow, though, many conservatives are okay with a guy obsessing over sports that he doesn't even play.
I keep up with sports enough to make conversation, and used to like most a lot so I understand all the rules, so I'll watch with friends sometimes. Still, the guys who spend all their free time following every tiny detail for their fantasy league, it blows my mind, seems like the biggest waste of time, even with $100 on the line.

He is not wrong. Sure it is much less of an issue now then 15 years ago but back then girls did not like guys that were heavy in to games. It was accepted by all involved.
My on opinion on why so few girls liked games is that girls did not like gamers, hot guys liked girls so they in turn did not like gamers, girls are considerably more social than guys so more likely to stay away from games. The girls that did like games were the few non-social ones and there are far fewer non-social girls than non-social guys.
I don't doubt that things changed now as gaming is mainstream but in the classic conservative world, as the name implies, it still holds true.

Gaming isn't bad, but at a certain level of time investment it hurts your life. The only real question is where to draw the line.
Also, women have never, ever found heavy gaming attractive. There's only one exception: if you're really, really good at it and can win tournaments or dunk on 99% of everyone else. Another reason to bemoan the decline of LAN tournaments.
The problem is as someone said what is considered heavy gaming that's not clearly defined in his poll and considering his spazzing out the last few days over gamers rejected walsh , it seems intentional.
