Yeah, this should be but the first step in trying to climb back up the slippery slope straight to Hell that America's been sliding down on since the '60s. At the very least, the pro-life movement should now refocus on a Right-To-Life amendment instead of resting on their laurels while emboldening others on the right with their victory, because assuredly the pro-abort side won't be giving them even a moment for peaceful celebration.

Between the gun decision and this decision in the last two days, you can almost feel the conservative wing of the court trying to pull us back.

The "bipartisan gun bill" that was in the news days before is essentially a dead man walking now -- there's no way Red Flag Laws stand up to the scrutiny of the precedent just set by SCOTUS. Granted, it will take years to get to that point, but the precedent is important.

This decision, much like yesterday's, is decisive. A cultural earthquake just got set off, and the majority didn't mince words. Roe and Casey were mistakes, and egregious ones, at that.

In the big scheme, it's probably a small victory - one that portends much more fighting in even bigger battles, but it gives me hope. The slide can be arrested. We aren't doomed.

Oh yes, this + yesterday's decision on guns has been a whitepill the size of Texas. At the very least it shows that conservatives (social conservatives to be exact) can actually win and conserve something that isn't a fruit of progressivism. I'm in full agreement that this is only one battle in a larger war, but some battles can be decisive and this here is a major victory for the right worth celebrating, even if the victors should not lose focus and prepare to fight for the next objective.

Unironically, God bless America.

Indeed.

Also, even though it's self-serving, I must add:

Anything that causes the left and social media to collectively lose their shit as is currently happening just warms the cockles of my heart.

Between the gun decision and this decision in the last two days, you can almost feel the conservative wing of the court trying to pull us back.

Call me a cynic, but apart from consistently sensible justices like Thomas I think the supreme court is owned by the uniparty and has no interest in doing the job it's supposed to. It's probably a two pronged strategy, rile up the lefties to vote in the midterms and throw righties a few bones so they'll become complacent instead of bucking the system, which they were getting close to doing. They'll keep going back and forth like that to keep the clown world status quo shambling along.

But culturally, the pendulum is finally showing signs of swinging back. It's heartening. But leftist clown world has been so extreme that the pendulum might swing to the extreme right, which is not going to be pretty.

▲ 22 ▼
– thepalagoon 22 points 3 years ago +22 / -0

You're a cynic.

The decision was 6-3. I believe the initial leak was 5-4, with Roberts trying to convince the conservative bloc to not be so... definitive in their ruling.

The leak directly led to Roberts being more conservative. It's a white pill.

▲ 14 ▼
– FuckGenderPolitics 14 points 3 years ago +14 / -0

Bingo. Roberts realized SCOTUS's institutional integrity is shot if the left can pull shit like this to prevent decisions they don't like. I initially thought institutional integrity was just his excuse for cucking out to the left but today's decision is evidence that he genuinely cares about it.

The extreme optimist in me wonders if this is what it took to make Roberts realize that his days as a milquetoast middle ground need to end.

The left will never be sated. As soon as you cross them in any way, it's Schumer's and Garland's assassins at YOUR doorstep. Appeasement will never work. It cannot. I pray Roberts realized it.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 3 ▼
– ArchRespawnsAgain 3 points 3 years ago +3 / -0

Roberts is image conscious. He wants the court to be seen as legitimate and used that as justification for more left-friendly rulings in the past. I wonder if he is aware that this was just making conservatives see the court as even more illegitimate while doing nothing to ingratiate the court for liberals.

Well, it's a whitepill unless it doesn't matter. It's entirely possible that Roberts will go back to cucking out at every opportunity again, and it's also possible, and I'd say even likely, that the leaker's intention wasn't to stop the ruling, but to galvanize the base. If you think about it, this could in theory be a godsend to the Dems, because there are midterms in a few months and they have literally nothing to run on, all they can do is screech about Jan 6 while nobody except twitter checkmarks cares and most of the nation is struggling due to skyrocketing prices and supply shortages, on top of everything that was wrong even before.

Of course, it's also possible that the Dem freakout will be so bad it'll make even more voters swing to the Reps.

Or they'll just cheat again, they got away with Kosovo-tier election shenanigans in 2020 so it's not like they'll calm down this time.

But yes, I see what you're saying, and I agree, it seems too early to blow this by now - but it's not like they had a choice, the decision was going to come out before the end of June, right? And at the same time, I never accused them of being smart, I get the impression that they're genuinely convinced that Twitter is real life.

For someone who goes on about hating women so much, despite how rent free they live in your head, you sure seem eager to get men killed by forcing women into military roles they will be ill suited for. The two main ways that will resolve are

  1. Women will be placed in non combat roles, as happens now, meaning the men that were previously working there get displaced - congrats Imp, you just advocated diversity hiring/affirmative action.

  2. Any woman that actually does make it to a combat role will never be equal to the men in those roles considering the men in those roles are often enough men that exceed what average men will be capable of in the first place. So the men alongside those diversity hires you are pushing for will then need to work extra hard on top of their default tasks to make up for the dead weight that will be your pet project. Which will get men killed when they end up overexerted and overburdened all because you want to sperg online about how much you hate women and yet still cannot ever shut the fuck up about them for more than a day, even when you get banned for it as you've shown by bringing an alt account here that one time because you had to post about something.

Well its more like 14 to 40, but societally, we don't encourage pregnancy from 14-18 for a variety of good reasons and women from 30-40 have an increasingly hard time conceiving, with fertility falling off a cliff around age 40.

Holy shit even Roberts joined in. This is the first bit of evidence I've seen that he actually cares about SCOTUS's institutional integrity as opposed to using it as an excuse to cuck out to the left. Remember he opposed overturning Roe in the leaked opinion. He must have finally realized that there's no appeasing these animals. The leak backfired on its architect big time. This is a great day. I don't care much about the abortion issue itself but I'm thrilled to see an ideology as evil and hateful as feminism take such a huge loss.

permalink save report block reply
▲ 9 ▼

Yes and no. He's still playing Mr. Senator - 6-3 on immediate merits, 5-4 on the Roe reversal itself. He had to be a snake and do a stand alone concurrence to say 'well, you see, it's complicated..'

It's still a massive step in the right direction but it gives lower courts a bit of extra wiggle room to chew on to find exceptions and carve out arguments for the eventual re-litigation on another theory down the road. Things will be messier, but Roberts gets to preen his feathers and say that he was the Principled Statesman tempering the court from being too bold.

Really wish we can eventually impeach him so he can go run for Senate to pursue his true passions. He has no business running SCOTUS.

He has no business actually being a senator either, but better he try and fail in that arena then what he's doing now

Perhaps if our left wing weren't a bunch of extremists who wanted abortion up to the point of birth (and in some cases after birth) maybe there wouldn't be such a push from the right to ban it.

The nations with the most permissive abortion laws in Europe are comparable to the states with the least permissive abortion laws in the US. In the 90s the EvangeloCons tried pushing for laws requiring women seeking abortions to go through counselling first: very similar to what Germany requires today. This was considered "too conservative".

So in the face of an opponent who will compromise not one iota, why not go all-in for a full ban?

permalink parent save report block reply

Politically it was probably best to rip the bandaid off. Roe has been poisoning the abortion debate for almost 50 years because the left didn't have to give their political opponents a seat at the table. Now they do, and that means means abortion policy will no longer be poisoned by a lack of legitimacy. Letting Roe limp along for a few more decades would have just kicked the can down the road and prolonged the agony of having abortion policy imposed by judicial fiat. Finally flushing this turd was the best move IMO.

Legally you're correct, and politics shouldn't be a factor in SCOTUS's decision making at all. The reason the Court has the legitimacy problem that Roberts is worried about is because the Warren Court decided to become a 3rd political branch to help the left win battles it couldn't have using legitimate political processes.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼

Not sure about that. Roe has been undermined by many court cases over the past 15 years, with very little pushback. As long as "Roe" was still there, people could rest content in that thought - even as it practically came to mean less and less.

I don't mean not to overturn Roe. But to uphold every single restriction, and then when it makes no difference, overturn Roe. Of course, that would be politicizing the judiciary, which is why it's bad. I think this is what Roberts wanted to do, to avoid a backlash.

The reason the Court has the legitimacy problem that Roberts is worried about is because the Warren Court decided to become a 3rd political branch to help the left win battles it couldn't have using legitimate political processes.

I'm amazed by the same people who told us that no one can challenge court decisions, because they were setting social policy that these people liked, now tell us that the court is illegitimate because it stopped setting social policy on one issue.

one thing to think about is if abortion was illegal this whole time and there were therefore more black people, black crime would of course be even higher which would make more white people correctly racist and hence conservative. Which would mean conservatives would get more votes and have more power instead of the 50-50 split right now. I suppose then liberals would rig more elections but then that pushes us further to a revolution which might have happened by now. They probably realize this which is why they wanted blacks to be aborted.

First of all, I take argument with your statement that "white people [should be] correctly racist." Let's be anti-violence, anti-crime, anti-racist affirmative actions, etc. Let's not just be racist.

Regarding conservatives having more power if there were more blacks and more crime--again, I doubt this. The big cities are generally much higher in black population that the surrounding territories, and they are the most left too--including the urban whites.

no it's correct to be racist because they commit most crimes

Bad argument. Should I be racist against white males because most mass school shooters in the US have been white males?

Should I be misandrist because most shootings, period, are committed by males?

No, that's useless.

This doesn't matter, though. People hate white people, men, and especially white men regardless of what we do or our disposition toward their groups. They hate us because they ain't us.

Even your example, "mass school shooters," assuming for argument's sake that it is statistically correct, is a rare and minutely categorized crime that has only been categorized to such an extent because more generalized crime stats are not only insufficient to villify white men but also vindicate a reluctance of whites to accept diversity (le 13/56).

What part of the Constitution requires a ban on genital mutilation?

That would run afoul of lots of legitimate parental authority and would be an unworkable and illegitimate extension of the fourth amendment. Instead you need to change state laws

The part that protects children

Cite the part.

But a Zionist like you, or islamist would disagree

I am a Zionist, and I support bans on all forms of genital mutilation for anyone under 18. That doesn't it's in the Constitution. That's as bad as making up the right to abortion in Roe.

Here's to hoping they legalize infant female mutilation, the constitution doesn't forbid it.

It doesn't. It would be a very bad law to legalize it, but there is nothing in the C that prohibits it.

What's funny is, the proverbial straw-man that women will threaten to stop fucking anything that has teeth is not actually a straw-man, as I've seen that line of attack from them.

I've seen it proposed several times where feminists propose chastity to own the cons.
