Bingo. Roberts realized SCOTUS's institutional integrity is shot if the left can pull shit like this to prevent decisions they don't like. I initially thought institutional integrity was just his excuse for cucking out to the left but today's decision is evidence that he genuinely cares about it.

Roberts is image conscious. He wants the court to be seen as legitimate and used that as justification for more left-friendly rulings in the past.
