I hate how it’s considered extreme to say that a country should determine immigration levels (based on what’s best for the country so not drastically messing with demographics) or that immigrants need to assimilate. Best examples are the ones who move to a western country and then whine about Christmas celebrations
Assimilation is impossible as different races and nationalities have a different culture.
Assimilation is possible when the foreign elements are in a small enough proportion. In order to fit in, they have no choice but to give up many aspects of their former culture and to adopt the prevailing one instead, else they are shunned or penalized and lose opportunities. But when there are large enough enclaves of their former culture, then the need to adapt is lost, and they become protective of their own, becoming hostile to any attempt to change them.
Immigration only works in small quantities, with people who are willing and incentivized to fully adapt. Mass immigration never works, unless as a conquering force.

We can safely say that some cultures are bad. This necessarily implies that some cultures are good. The moment you introduce this sort of hierarchy into the discussion, people are going to start evaluating their life choices with respect to all the “data”. That’s why mass immigration only moves one way: from shit countries to prosperous ones. That’s why people who can afford to do so choose to live in white neighborhoods and send their kids to white schools.

I'd not want to live in a culture like that so that question is irrelevant to me personally. Literally one of the last places I would go to, India is such a shithole. Say I go to America to live there, I'd celebrate July the 4th, thanksgiving etc. Its part of the culture and I would like to fit in. When you force American English speakers to go through an extra step to get their language you are saying "you aren't the norm anymore, you are one of a range of options." And by having spanish everywhere you are telling the invaders/immigrants "don't bother assimilating, you are equally important to the natives".
It is one of many incremental steps toward the cultural transformation of the country away from distinctly White Anglo toward a global economic zone.
If there are really people who are not learning English that is fucked up. Spanish language service from teh cable company for grandma to get her soaps is not the most significant sign of the invasion to me.
In the past, English was never enforced as the primary language. It just was that way, except in places where it wasn't. That is good enough for me, the way it was, pre-invasion.

The Federal Government literally told all of the Cajun grandparents that English was the language of the land and they had to speak it to use government services. Which is basically one of the main reasons it died out as a language and requires active effort to keep alive to this day.

A country doesn't even need to determine them. They should be constitutionally fixed to be lower than replacement levels of the citizen demographic. Low immigration is tolerable when they can't come in large enough numbers to create the miniature states within states as they do now. Without those they have to assimilate and can't derail the local culture. Anything higher is sabotage.

Immigration should look at current growth rates and look at expansion of services, utilities and residential housing supply and cap it so they are not restricted or under pressure.
The high immigration rates are causing housing supply issues across the western world butnits not just that, trying to go to GPs, dentists, etc. have long waiting lists and they are getting longer.
Countries for too long have only measured growth by measuring gross GDP increase and not looking at things like GDP per capita increase and real wage growth metrics that look at whether the actual people in the countries lives are improving or is it just the governments coffers getting bloated for more pork to barrel.
