Press 1 for English isn't about helping Mexicans, it a victory lap declaring the American pre-civil rights America is dead.
There shouldn't ever be an option for anything other than English. If you can't speak our language then you don't belong here and should be appropriately inconvenienced and actively antagonized about the fact that you don't belong here.
That's kind of a bullshit thing to say when you're calling a call center in the Philippines. They should offer two languages, in that case.
Call centers in the Philippines shouldn't be answering American callers, they should be answering Philippino callers.
If it's just a call center, why can't they answer both?
All you need is someone to talk to. The companies that are running these call centers are international.
The call centers in Atlanta seem slightly better. I will give you that. Indian ones suck. Otherwise, it varies.
I disagree there. Being able to hold a conversation, and knowing technical vocabulary is completely different.
It isn't a technical issue, it is a symbolic one.
When you force American English speakers to go through an extra step to get their language you are saying "you aren't the norm anymore, you are one of a range of options." And by having spanish everywhere you are telling the invaders/immigrants "don't bother assimilating, you are equally important to the natives".
It is one of many incremental steps toward the cultural transformation of the country away from distinctly White Anglo toward a global economic zone.
If there are really people who are not learning English that is fucked up. Spanish language service from teh cable company for grandma to get her soaps is not the most significant sign of the invasion to me.
In the past, English was never enforced as the primary language. It just was that way, except in places where it wasn't. That is good enough for me, the way it was, pre-invasion.
It's included in disability support services.
Those regulations also need to go.
I agree, not being able to speak english is a disability
