"Slippery slope is real, idiot!"

"What do you mean you're worried that they'll use this as a Trojan for internet ID? You must just be a faggot coomer who wants to rape kids! Think of the children!"

I hate it here.

I'm completely in favor of anything that makes it more difficult for normies to access the internet. A dystopian internet would require computer skills to access many parts of, and as such those parts would be normie-free, just like it used to be.

Bring on the iron fist. Let the culling begin.

Normies are fine with sacrificing anything up to and including their own children, so long as it is convenient. I don't think that this path actually takes us to where you want to go.

I'm talking about corners of the internet that, theoretically, couldn't be accessed without a VPN or TOR. Corners that might not even have a domain name. Not only would you feel like a cool hacker visiting these places, but there's no way an NPC would dare going anywhere near a site that only exists as an IP address.

We have to face the fact that the corporatization of the internet is permanent. There's no going back. The only way through is forward, and the way forward is to gatekeep as hard as possible.

MindGeek believes requiring users to verify their ages with IDs isn't effective or secure.

And they proved that by ... completely shutting down their business in Utah and preventing under-aged people from accessing their website.

The only issue is that advanced age verification crap is a privacy risk, which is why security minded people do not support it.

Nothing can be done about kids accessing porn other than mandatory age gates and warning people about how showing kids porn violates anti-grooming laws to stop non predatory retards from doing it.

Correct. This is another example of stupid right-wingers falling for a govt trap. Parents are responsible for their children's internet browsing, not the fucking government. Pissing internet privacy down the drain because you're a lazy parent is the dumbest shit imaginable.

Why can't kids get fake IDs with fake names and addresses in Texas or whatever? I think 21 for drinking age is so dumb because everyone 18 and up (if not younger) has fake IDs so what is the point. Everyone over 21 knows everyone under 21 can get drinks any time they want. It's just a fucking game. So stupid. Porn is actually a better thing to try to keep away from young people, or people in general tbh.

Is all the RealID crap they're adding to IDs not enough for the machines to distinguish fakes? That was what mattered back in my day.

Of course, you can't ultimately keep 18 year olds from drinking.

Nothing can be done to stop minors who are determined to access porn from accessing it. At best, you can keep kids from accidentally running into it. Though even that is more their parents' responsibility.

You talk about nothing else.

The other side of this war is actively cheating, violating practically every part of the social contract and arguably most of human rights law.

Ah right, I remember our resident constitutional scholar claiming that the British government is 'illegitimate under the Rome Statute'.

Yeah...looks like we're going to see Jane Crow laws one day.

You're BS'ing, and you know you're BS'ing, which is why you've moved on from definitive predictions to "one day". So when you're dying of heart damage in 2050, you'll be telling everyone "ANY DAY NOW! I CAN STILL BE RIGHT! BERNIE CAN STILL WIN!"

1930s Germany, two men are talking in a café.

Everyone you don't like is Hitler. And talking about Hitler sure has a beneficial effect.

Because they're very unpredictable people.

And yet everyone else manages to predict things rather well. I told you at the time that 90% wasn't going to die from the vaccine, that there wouldn't be a 'male curfew', that Kim Potter was going to be indicted and convicted, but you were absolutely sure. It's just that you get everything wrong and then blame it on 'unpredictability'.

All that's really obvious is that they will continue lowering our standards of living and dehumanizing us on a grand scale.

You are a whiner extraordinaire.

While I don't believe this should be handled by government (because of the eventual overreach) and should be handled by parents using parental controls to block sites they shouldn't be viewing, this will do fuck all to stop kids seeing porn without the whole 'parents actually supervising'.

Besides I'm still on the fence if online porn is more harmful to kids than most state education and educators...

permalink save report block reply
▲ 13 ▼
– FuckGenderPolitics 13 points 3 years ago +13 / -0

The porn sites also participate in all those parental control programs like Net Nanny. It's not in their interest to be seen peddling their product to kids. Kids getting access to porn is 100% on the parents.

Besides I'm still on the fence if online porn is more harmful to kids than most state education and educators...

Thanks to the algorithms they're neck and neck. Regardless of where you start the algorithms will show content that's more and more fucked up, with tranny porn being the ultimate destination. Back in the day a 13 year old could search for "big boobs" and that's what he would get without being led down a fucked up path.

/d/ is a 4chan board I assume? I don't know anything about that. What I can tell you is that when I started using the internet you had to search for whatever you wanted. I never came across any really weird shit back then because it would have never crossed my mind to search for that and algorithms that deliberately lead to that content were still a decade away.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 7 ▼
– ApparentlyImAHeretic 7 points 3 years ago +7 / -0

for me it was always a matter of time. The more time you spend on the internet, the more likely you were to run into the weird shit. for reasonably social kids and teenagers, this was never a big deal.

for socially awkward and self-isolated kids, running into the weird shit was an inevitability.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 8 ▼
– FuckGenderPolitics 8 points 3 years ago +8 / -0

I was that socially awkward and self-isolated kid. But then again I didn't have access to my own internet connected computer until I was 18, so the amount of porn I could consume was limited by the amount of time that I was home alone. It was probably a blessing in disguise.

To offer a diametric argument. Back in the day there were far less sites to begin with, meaning it was easier to just stumble upon fucked up shit the moment you walked out of certain lanes. One of my buddies found Asian Scat Porn on AOL by sheer accident trying to find flash games.

So while you weren't being deliberately lead to fucked shit, you were also not being protected from it at times too.

One of my buddies found Asian Scat Porn on AOL by sheer accident trying to find flash games.

Even if that were true I still wouldn't ever let my friend live that down and any time it was brought up, which would be often, the retelling would heavily suggest it wasn't an accident.

Come to think of it, this actually happens with someone I know where "japscat" is brought up for this very reason. It's amusing watching how easy it is winding the guy up about it.

I feel like porn is more centralized now than it was back then. It seems to have followed the same process of discussion boards. Maybe I'm misremembering because it's been so long but I remember googling whatever I wanted and being led to a variety of sites. Now most of it is aggregated onto a small number of huge sites. It's like how discussion forums gave way to sites like Faggit on other huge social media companies.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– Adamrises 2 points 3 years ago +2 / -0

You aren't wrong, I was simply offering the differing perspective that you could still find wierd shit without intentionally searching for it back in the day, it was just more accidental. Which meant that without that centralizing factor keeping you from searching the Wild West chaos, you could just stumble on all sorts of shit.

I'm not saying its better or worse, only that the problem has always been there just in another form.

I just think it's interesting that ISPs, search engines, big web sites, etc... do a much better job keeping people from finding (eg.) AmRen then pornhub.

I don't know what the solution is, but at some point parents start to notice all these people who say "there's nothing we can do" when it comes to making it hard for their kids to find porn are suddenly highly motivated to make it hard for you to find crime statistics broken down by race. Or evidence of election irregularities in 2020.

I would have told you "there's nothing we can do" about those "problems" 10 years ago, yet they found a way...

Yet another instance of "when 'reasonable' people fail to solve a problem normal people have, the problem doesn't just go away; it just falls to 'unreasonable' people to fix it."

We're way beyond "is becoming", we're in the "It should have been stopped 20 years ago" stage. At the latest, when Apple and big tech ran their cleanup programs in 2009, it would have been nice if they cleaned up the internet porn, but that wasn't good for the regime's plans

Minors don't get porn through Pornhub anyways. They get it through Twitter, Reddit, and Discord. Or, more accurately, the sites they use as a replacement for socialization simultaneously act as porn sites, often without any input on the user's part. And that's not even the only problem. Those sites also have far more non-vanilla porn, on top of doubling as advertising centers. So socialization, advertising, vanilla porn, and fetish porn are all being wrapped up into one package.

Not to mention, its just the same old "the people it means to stop will easily circumvent it, leaving only the innocent suffering for it" problem with legislating most of society's ills.

Because the kids will figure out how to get around it, they always do and most people here probably have their own personal example of doing it back in the day. Meaning it just punishes adults with more work, cost, and risk while protecting nothing.

That's a problem that's inevitable when there's age restrictions.

I can't buy a gun online without proving my age and ID, which goes through a government check.

I can't even buy electronic cigarette e-liquid without proving my age.

Porn is only now falling under these restrictions and it's really telling that this is where people draw the line.

Anyway, if you're worried about government spying, you can always get your porn at your local XXX store.

Also, the implicit implication of the user youre responding to is that people objecting to this for privacy reasons do not also object to those other things for similar reasons, which is definitely not the case. Just because something is the status quo doesn't mean you can just assume people are cool with it.

Pornhub is the enemy. You are allowed to filter "gay only" but there is no way to filter "straight only". Additionally they have started sneaking tranny results of searches that have nothing to do with trannies (and no this isn't a "based on previous searches" type thing). I really do not care enough about pornhub or pornography in general to defend them. Yep, there’s a privacy risk with providing identification on the internet, but guess what? That sounds like a problem for someone trying to access porn. That’s a risk they’re going to have to take if they want to jerk off. Remember the risks of downloading porn back in the day? two tier networks - Predominately Intranet for us with the Internet being tightly regulated and restricted to access by Government and corporations

That's how it is in the Cyberpunk universe. There's the sanitized corporate public internet patrolled by netcops, and then unrestricted cyberspace where dangerous AIs roam freely waiting to fry the brains of overly adventurous netrunners. That's also the only place you can find real information.

You're literally the autistic screeching meme.

Man: I do.
Woman: I do.
Imp: REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Why can't you be happy like me?!?!?

The people who vote Mitt Romney into office time and time again cannot be described as "trad" or anything even adjacent to that.

They voted him into office once, when he had Trump's support.

He'll win reelection without fail. This upcoming election I believe.

And that was Trump's mistake. The man is entirely too trusting.

You talked about the past tense. A lot of red states vote in terrible people.

Not trusting, just bad judgment, especially when it comes to people. Ben Sasse as well, as well as many of his appointments.

If they cared about their own ideology, then once again they wouldn't keep sending Mitt fucking Romney to Washington. He constantly stands against every doctrinal aspect of their ostensible religion.
