I live in a socialist country that hates me for my gender, skin color and political views. They take most of what I make in taxes and then hand that money to anyone who is not a citizen or line their own pockets, while we get less and less for the healthcare, infrastructure, housing, etc that we pay for.

The more you work the more you get punished for it, while foreign invaders get everything for free without having to raise a finger.

So yea, fuck spending more than the absolute minimum effort. I'll take any day off that I can.

For the record, the last sick day I took was in 2018. I had a kidney stone and missed 1.5 days of work.

I understand that according to Matt Walsh I should feel embarrassed about that, but at least he doesn't think it makes me demonic. Like he does when I play a video game.

There is no political or cultural representation for straight white men who aren’t corporate dickriders.

Or as they are most commonly known, muh Nazis.

About the closest we have is gym bro and firearm culture.

Walsh has 2 redeeming qualities : 1- He opposes troonery without detours : it's a lie, don't entertain the lie, it's an abominable act to do onto minors with permanent consequences.

2- He made many White babies.

On most other subjets I will not agree with him, but the bar is so low right now just producing 3+ White children is a step above most, myself included.

The embarrassment stems from most adults taking a sick day when they're hung over or overslept and it's too late to get to work on time.

Or as a vacation day. Oh you're sick the two days before your vacation starts? Huh.

Everybody knows what you're doing and that's embarrassing.

A sick day when you actually are sick or saw a doctor is the opposite of embarrassing, but odds are that's not why somebody is out.

You can dye your hair purple and get a tramp stamp. Embarrassing, but you can do it.

Personally, if I was going to get so drunk I'd be big time hung over the next day I'd do it on a weekend. I tell the boss if I'm taking sick days as part of my vacation so they can plan for it - maybe you can't do that at some shitty company, I don't know.

Being embarrassed of using what you've earned because a cuckold bootlicker tells you to is peak retard lemmings shit.

I can't imagine being so brainwashed by a corporation that I'm scared of doing what I want with what I've earned.

Next you'll tell me I should be embarrassed to go over the speed limit with my car.

Counter-counter point;

You absolutely can do what you want, but you have an obligation to live up to a contract you signed, that said short of legitimate illness you agree to go to work everyday.

Saying Fuck you I do what I want, ultimately means that they also get to say "fuck you I'll do what I want, which is to not pay you for what you worked"...

and that, I am sure you'll agree, is a bad thing and not something we should just say "Fuck you" to..

Just food for thought.

What is it called when you claim something that isn't again? Lying.

Let's say everyone gets 10 paid sick days off

The guy shovelling maccas and fake chemical shit down his throat and believing fauci gets them off cause he's constantly ill

You're a fool to not take them too. Have a few extra days with your family, a little vacation, do a project or get something done, so that you actually get a day of rest. That's not embarrassing, that's refusing to work for free, which is what you'd be doing in effect by not using that entitlement while others do.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– fauxgnaws 1 point 1 year ago +1 / -0

You get paid for unused sick days so you're not "working for free" you're just taking days off.

Using a paid sick day lowers your income by a day because you're not getting that sick day cashed out later.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 14 ▼
– MrGiggles 14 points 1 year ago +14 / -0

Sick days normally aren’t paid out in any circumstance, at least in America. It is literally a “use it or lose it” type of situation.

Annual leave is the one that often gets paid out if you leave the company, barring any yearly cash out options that companies normally don’t do (often there is a use it or lose it clause if you go over a certain number of accumulated annual leave hours).

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– fauxgnaws 2 points 1 year ago +2 / -0

It's not required in America, but it's like the first thing employees negotiate for. Because they get paid more for being healthy.

I live in a state with almost no worker protections and have always had unused sick days paid out.

edit: all I can say is you guys must work at some shitty companies lol

California did something weird with this in my lifetime. You can look it up. I think you get paid for unused sick days if you quit. I'm not sure, though. I do know that the state mandated some sick days, and you have to track it.

The way things have gone during my lifetime, sick days have basically become extra vacation days. When I don't feel well, which is really a spectrum, I ask myself if it's one of the 10 worst days a year. If so, I don't go in. When you wfh, even germs aren't an issue.

I agree, but considering the high stress of living, and the insane pace of everything, perhaps sick days should be mental days too.

But thats not what this fool is talking about.

And then to hear him say, I still came in and did my podcast shit.

Wow bro, you must be working up such a fucking sweat for the 4 hours a day you actually work. Aka sitting on your ass and recording your bitching LOL.

Dude is oblivious. Do a manual labor job, get something like the cold or flu, or throw your back out walking the dog and bending under a tree (yeah I did that once) and then lets hear you say how you wont take a sick day. Holy fuck. These people are the ones who prolly think cancer patients are just laying in bed all day because they are lazy.

Man he just sounds like a corporate whore if im being honest. I could understand this mentality 50 years ago when 10 hours overtime a week could buy your house. But do young people want to slave and waste their lives away for some corporate dickwad that will break their backs, knickle and dime them, and throw them away with trash when they are done?

Oh man I know, oh god do I know.

These type of people can get fucked. They know absolutely nothing.

I'm not trying to defend Walsh's position, which is crap, but where he probably got it from.

He's so black and white that he can't differentiate between the guy you play a game with who's obviously hammered in voice chat and calls in sick and the guy who's coughing up a lung and doesn't want his coworkers to get it or to come in and make costly mistakes.

Whichever is the more common case he's going to treat as the only case.

or saw a doctor is the opposite of embarrassing

The whole "sick note" industry is such a waste of everyone's time and resources as well.

Sick notes should be tiered based on who initiated the request.

  1. The first would be the current basic "sick note" initiated by the patient or employer which essentially states "This patient has paid me 20$ and claims to me that they are ill".

  2. The second would be doctor initiated and equivalent to having your driver's license suspended. "I have diagnosed this patient personally and commanded them to remain home from work for X amount of time. Dear Lord, may God help this man".

We just went through four years of people taking off five straight days - fully paid - because they claimed they tested positive on a faulty over-the-counter test for an illness with no symptoms.

But the companies they work for stole hundreds of billions in PPE funds from all of us, so fuck ‘em.

Spoken like a man who gets to sit down for most of his shifts indoors.

If us actual working Americans tried to go in sick, we'd collapse from the mixture of heat, exhaustion, and loss of strength that come along with most sicknesses. Which if it happened when we were carrying heavy objects or driving something, well that would go very badly.

And injuries from things like that take way more time off than a simple "sleep it off" day.

Yeah. I'm not going to pretend I work the most hardcore job...far from it. But certainly more hardcore than office work. Even when I'm feeling good, if it's too hot, or I didn't eat enough, or what have you...it's rough. If I'm really not feeling well? Oof, I'm worried I might just pass out.

As I said in another comment, if I'm not feeling well, I'll tough it out when I can, but if it get's bad I'll take a day. So I might tough it out three or four days, with a sick day mixed in. That generally gets pretty good results.

They all say the most stupid fucking things like this guy does at times.

For my own opinion, sick days are part of your pay. PTO is part of your pay. If you do not use those days that you have, you are just offering your services to your company for a discounted rate, and you are the only (big) loser in this exchange.

Also if you work in a normal, non-faggot job, or if you just don't run a self-aggrandizing podcast, if you are contagious and you risk getting your coworkers sick because you want to help your company make more money, you are a piece of garbage.

Why? He's not wrong. They should still exist and they should still be used if necessary, but you should feel somewhat embarrassed about it and be thankful to any co-workers who went out of their way to cover for you.

Edit: Getting knocked on your ass by a one-day sickness is embarrassing regardless of work situation. It happens, but it's still an embarrassing show of weakness. If you disagree, you might want to get your blood-soy levels checked. That might be why you're sick.

Edit 2: You guys aren't getting it. I'm not saying it's some deep shame. It's a minor thing. Like if two people are going through a door in opposite directions and do the stupid little dance where neither can decide if they should go first. It happens to everyone. It's not a big deal. It's still embarrassing because you look like a retard. If you don't feel any embarrassment at all after looking weak or looking like a retard, it's because you're used to being seen that way. No one is saying you should go in and blow snot on everyone. Only that you should feel the slightest bit guilty for inconveniencing others to carry your responsibilities. But maybe I just still remember the slightest bit of a high-trust society.

My boss at my first "real job" told me some good advice very early in my career that was entirely correct but I didn't follow as much as I should have: "it's my job to push you as hard as I can get away with, and it's your job to tell me when to stop".

Placed I've worked if you don't use sick days they're paid out as worked days.

So it's not like you're losing by coming to work with the sniffles. Taking a sick day you're really just taking a vacation day when you can't enjoy it.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 9 ▼
– Adamrises 9 points 1 year ago +9 / -0

I've worked plenty that were entirely "use it or lose it" with your sick days, and all your days off. Most of them early in my career at low end jobs, but that's where most people work too.

In those situations, you are literally working for free at your most miserable for an entire shift for every sick day you don't take. Double so because most of those work places won't let you "burn off" those days at the end because of things like >3 needing doctor's notes.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– fauxgnaws 1 point 1 year ago +1 / -0

Then you're risking actually getting seriously ill and losing your job because you took too many 'mental health' days.

You can save a lot of money by not paying insurance, stashing away the premiums instead, and hoping for the best. Your sick days at a shitty company like that are insurance against being fired, because you're easily replaceable at any company with that policy.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 4 ▼
– Adamrises 4 points 1 year ago +4 / -0

If its use it or lose it, than you save it until you need it and then strategically burn it off in the months leading up little by little to make sure you aren't left holding a giant bunch you cannot possible use. Its a pretty simple system anyone who worked at such a company figured out after a year.

Yes its a shitty company, not all of us just walked out of the house and got a job somewhere bitchin' and awesome. We all had to start somewhere. And at those jobs, you know you are replaceable from day one and you make sure to prioritize yourself and maximizing it above the company.

I'm sorry I ruined your high horse by showing you that your experience is not universal, try not to let it get you so mad.

You don’t take them (for whatever reason) you get burnt out and leave. If you don’t let your subordinates use them, or pry them, they will resent you and leave. If your equals get mad because they get a ton of work dumped on them, then your all in a bad job and should leave.

If they're used as necessary, people should not feel embarrassed at all. There is no shame in being sick

I recall several occasions where co-workers, and their families by proxy, got sick because someone just couldn't bear the thought of staying home unless they were on their deathbed (in which case they would telecommute).

If you don't work every minute of your life until you die then you're not a man! And if you ever get sick or even sneeze once in your life then get out of the gene pool!

I think you're only bitter because you don't get sick days for being retarded.

That would be true if modern companies were as embarrassed acting in the silly overly legalistic manner in which they do.

Tit for Tat is the optimal strategy. If you work for honorable people act honorably. Otherwise do what you're legally entitled to do.

As you should. Or used them as job hunt days to look for something better than this shitty job.

This debate exposes reveals who works some deskfag job and who works blue collar shit shoveller jobs.

As a shit shoveller myself, I'll take off any and all days I can. When I feel like shit, it makes physical labor awful. I'm not killing myself to make boss happy.

But sure, if you're a desk jockey and sit on your ass all day in a nice climate controlled building, maybe you SHOULD be embarrassed. The work you do is still important and valuable, but feeling like shit and scrolling your PC at work is basically what you'd be doing at home.

I only say that about desk jobs because I'm seeing a surprising amount of desk jockey bootlickers in the comments lol. You can be embarrassed all you want, maybe it's because you know deep down that being sick doesn't affect your day of work where you only do something substantial for half of it.

This is a fantastic reply and I work a desk job, lol. Learned long ago if I don’t 100% love my job and I never take time off that I’ll resent the company even though it was my dumb ass that wasn’t taking care of myself.

Don't let ''embarassment'' by Walsh standarts push you to ruin your health, mental and physical.

I found a job that I could do within my limits and it was much better long term than ending up sick unable to work for months and then terrified of it happening again if I went back.

Thankfully with flexible hours, it happened a few times I asked my boss to leave because I wasen't productive and I'd be back ASAP.

He get more worth for his money, I don't ruin my health.
