The guy shovelling maccas and fake chemical shit down his throat and believing fauci gets them off cause he's constantly ill
You're a fool to not take them too. Have a few extra days with your family, a little vacation, do a project or get something done, so that you actually get a day of rest. That's not embarrassing, that's refusing to work for free, which is what you'd be doing in effect by not using that entitlement while others do.
The way things have gone during my lifetime, sick days have basically become extra vacation days. When I don't feel well, which is really a spectrum, I ask myself if it's one of the 10 worst days a year. If so, I don't go in. When you wfh, even germs aren't an issue.
Sick days normally aren’t paid out in any circumstance, at least in America. It is literally a “use it or lose it” type of situation.
Annual leave is the one that often gets paid out if you leave the company, barring any yearly cash out options that companies normally don’t do (often there is a use it or lose it clause if you go over a certain number of accumulated annual leave hours).
California did something weird with this in my lifetime. You can look it up. I think you get paid for unused sick days if you quit. I'm not sure, though. I do know that the state mandated some sick days, and you have to track it.
Let's say everyone gets 10 paid sick days off

Using a paid sick day lowers your income by a day because you're not getting that sick day cashed out later.

It's not required in America, but it's like the first thing employees negotiate for. Because they get paid more for being healthy.
I live in a state with almost no worker protections and have always had unused sick days paid out.
edit: all I can say is you guys must work at some shitty companies lol
It's not the norm. At all.
I think the other guys are a bit off. Everywhere decent that I'm actually aware of pays those out. I think in some states they have to.
What? You’re leaving enjoyment of life on the table is you don’t use it. You get paid those days wether you use it or not.
Mr. shekelberg.
