I’ll probably get it around thanksgiving. I was watching the HeelzvsBabyface livestream that got so much attention. I avoided arguing with the trolls in his comment section otherwise I’d still be on there with the people who said everyone has pronouns or that pronouns are welcoming.
I know some say to just roll your eyes and continue but this acknowledgment of a tiny percentage of delusional people is beyond idiotic.
I’ve also heard that they really hammer THE MESSAGE and there is the usual “representation”
I feel kinda bad because I know there are female gamers and I have some nieces who play games (granted they are games you would expect girls to play) but this almost decade long push for more women in gaming is beyond annoying. As well as the “everything has to appeal to everyone” marketing idea.
Like I said I’ll probably buy it around thanksgiving and there will be cool mods I’d imagine. I’m still playing heavily modded Skyrim and can’t wait for the oblivion mod.
Next up is Elder Scrolls 6
Never. Don't buy woke crap. Go fucking advertise your shit elsewhere.
I do read a lot and get what you mean. I guess when Starfield was first announced the game I imagined in my head Will definitely not compare to the actual game.
Sad part is it could have at least been a lot closer to what they were trying make people think it was. Looks like that's not the case though.
It still baffles me that so many people could fall for it. If you couldn’t tell from the first gameplay trailer that it’s just gonna be Fallout 4 in space then there’s no helping you.
I never even played Skyrim until it was 5 bucks and chock full of mods. And Skyrim had so much less in your face modern day bullshit. I think I can wait. Indefinitely.
Yea, I'll wait 10 years until they give it out for free.
You can usually get gamepass for $1 and that basically makes it free. I would not suggest keeping it for more than 1 month though.
Looks like gamepass is like 15€ around here.
I don't even plan to spent that much for the eventual GOTY ;)
I genuinely don't understand why people buy AAA titles. Even ignoring that they're full of stupid $CURRENT_YEAR crap and made by people who hate you, they all look so damn boring and filled with repetitive padding or grinding and horribly written plots and dialogue.
I just went through Blasphemous 2 and it's a tight Metroidvania (if a little on the easy side compared to the first). All of the dialogue fit the setting. 20 hours to first near-100% completion. Enough replay value to go through another time or two, and pick up again next year and play again if I want. The only (spoiler!) "trans" individual in the game is a mutant freak that's begging for death. No gay relationships ... or, in fact, any romantic relationships whatsoever except for a long-dead couple.
I think OP is our token black, so they'd actually worship him, at least at first glance.
You're so retarded that the only thing that you take notice of is his being black. Not that he is consistently asking about different media and for help making selections because he is newer to some mediums. Not that he actually takes criticism constructively. No he's black and apparently a token and the only black person here. Clown shit
All I did was jokingly point out that that criticism may not actually apply to him, and you're chimping out like I called him a nigger. If you're implying what I think you're implying, then good work, you proved a point I wasn't even trying to make.
You really thought that he was serious?
Does it get better? I have a few hours into it right now and it kind of seems like it pales in comparison to the first one. Has a lot of bugs, too.
It's much easier than the first one, but I actually think that's because it's less buggy than the first. I can't count the number of times that I got mauled by bosses because of weird hitboxes or missed a pixel-perfect jump over a set of spikes in the first one.
The movement upgrades are also more standard Metroidvania faire instead of stuff that makes platforms appear or allows you to fall into lower areas. And the way they made the weapons act as "keys" is kind of unique and clever.
I also haven't run into any bugs (playing on a Switch) except two random crashes, so I can't speak to that. It does still have the same damn problem where when you're moving down, the camera doesn't pan below your fucking feet more than like 1 or 2 tiles, and if you fall down from high places, the camera doesn't keep up with you so good luck avoiding spikes if you don't already know exactly where they are. But spikes are no longer instant death so it's less of a hair-pulling annoyance now.
I've read a lot of complaining about how difficult the second-to-last boss is, but my middle-aged reflexes have beaten him with 2 of the weapons now without that much difficulty so I think that's just millennial whining. The fights are all fair and just require decent timing and positioning -- and patience to wait for safe windows to attack.
All in all, I'd call it closer to Hollow Knight than the original Blasphemous, in terms of gameplay. It's also slightly less brutal in overall tone, IMO. I liked it well enough on its own terms but I could see people being disappointed about the movement no longer feeling as "heavy" as the original did with the Mea Culpa and limited move set.
Wait a bunch of years before it's modded more......then not buy it anyway because there's still better mods on Skyrim and Fallout.
I’ve repeated this take often, but my opinion hasn’t changed: it looks boring as fuck. The litmus test I employ is pretty simple: does any aspect of the game stand out to me as inspired? Or is everything of “minimum viable product” standards? The term I often use is “C+ homework”. Did the devs clock out at 5 every day having done the bare minimum to collect their checks and ship a functional product? Or is it obvious that someone with passion, vision, and talent worked hard to create something meaningful and worthwhile? I don’t see any aspect of Starfield as particularly well done. Gunplay, npcs, story, graphics, space combat, exploration, game world - none of it looks great. It all ranges from competent to almost good. Is that a game I want to spend dozens or hundreds of hours in?
You summed up my thoughts perfectly.
Except anyone with sense.
Try to avoid giving money to people who hate you. Pirate it if you absolutely have to have it.
Funny, I heard THE MESSAGE in the voice of The Critical Drinker.
I know. Every time I type it I hear it in his voice too
Didnt realize people pirates within 24 hrs after early release lol.
It's on TPB since pre-release. :)
I can't speak to its legitimacy because I can't even be bothered to pirate Starfield.
Coming from the person who shills for TERFs, that is rich.
Says the Epic Games shill of many years.
This fag was the first person I ever saw that seemed like a genuine believer in EGS. Really an astoundingly stupid human being.
Watching Synthetic Man's livestream, the game looks kind of boring. Idk.
I finally got a super duper custom PC recently, but I'm only playing Doom Eternal at the moment because that's fun. All these people need to do is release another Wing Commander entry with super nice graphics and new mechanics and I'd buy it on the spot. But instead, everything for space sim is RPG or exploration or multiplayer waste of time.
That was basically what Star Citizen was originally supposed to be (with multiplayer), before Chris Roberts stumbled onto the Infinite Money glitch.
Wing Commander. I need to get those games again
Nice. I've got parts of my own super duper custom PC in the mail as we speak, can't wait. Doom Eternal is on my list too; seems like a nice decently high-end game to test things out on...that's also actually fun. I get Starfield for free with it, so I will be playing it, but I agree it looks more boring than it really should. I still think I can get some fun out of it, but there are some major warning signs too, sadly.
And, yeah, as someone else mentioned, check out Everspace. Maybe also Starpoint.
Bring back Freelancer, Microsoft! It's been 20 years now!
Why? They'd just bring it back for Modern Audiences.
Have you checked out Everspace 1/2?
What’s that about?
If you own fallout 4 don't bother. Even ignoring the current day junk it's practically 90% just a reskinned fallout 4, with some new aspects but many of the good aspects of fallout 4 stripped out.
I like FO4 though, and I never like shooter games.
After 40 hrs in the last 4 days.. travelling is slightly better after you explored an area. You can directly fast travel somewhere and skip the take off cutscene, loading, setting course, spooling grav drive, cutscene of warp speed, appear in orbit, clicking on planet surface, loading, cutscene of landing, loading to exit spacecraft. After you discover an area.. so i can go from another system and fast travel to the outside of lodge with 1 loading screen...
Followers are super glitchy. Sam Coe, if he is with me and we are talking to a 3rd npc, he butts in. But when he does 75% of the time he is talking from 50feet away or behind a box or wall. Sarah.. that bitch dissapears from a fight 75% of the time.
Game still runs like shit. Its very cpu bound. You need a very current cpu to run it above 60fps at ALL times because at least 2 cities.. most people getting 45-50 fps at 1080p. My gpu is a 4080 and it barely 45% of its ability and only uses around 7gb of vram out of 16gb. You need a high thier 13th gen intel cpu or a 7800x3d amd cpu.. but someone claims that fast bandwith ram is also important (which is correlated to cpu). Cities look crappy, graphically, but also runs like crap. Landscapes of planets look cool and pretty, it is more "atmospheric" compared to cities. but that is also because not much happens there. I also finally played enough to run into planets with green vegetation and some water.
Game is filled with ugly ass black/brown/asian people. Like butt ugly. Fat too. Still no exotic humanoid intelligent aliens.. still no exotic planets where human population have an unusual demographic for some historical or scientific reason.. like no planet that is all kids, no planet where its all amazonian buff women that kills you by snu snu, no planet where its all just one race. Its always the same demographic mix. Im asian.. super offended all asian females look like dog shit in western games. I think you are black, im sure you know what i mean. Western game devs often make black females look ugly. Well.. i guess all females look like dog water. Most random black npcs look like god damn gorillas lol. The supporting female black npcs is okay, like Noel. Basically, no space babes.
Followers talk too fucking much. They talk about their feelings for 10 minutes every 10 to 30 minutes.. i also have zero desire to be around any follower or the constellation group. Seems all the hot 18 to 25 year old people are dead.
Almost no gore at all. You cant seem to dismember enemies. Not much blood. Only blood ive seen was one scene that had a npc said.. "its bad up here... so much blood" but when i got there, there was no blood at all. But then i went back to the other quest area, this npc had a pool of blood under it.. but strangely, the npc itself wasnt bloody. Its a rated T game...
Speaking of rated T not even space brothels with these ugly ass npcs. Like a red light district. There is a city that is cyberpunk like. Cyberpunk and seedy red light go hand and hand. Closest thing to redlight was a club with 3 faggots and 1 female dancing in some weird clothes.
Combat is nothing special.. animations of weapons is basic. Nothing cool like from the game killing floor were each weapon has multiple reloading, idle, selecting and deselecting animations.
And lastly.. super predictable. Its skyrim and fallout in space. If you play both, its like 85% of the story. Literally... you are the "starborn". You look for abilities like shouts in skyrim lol. You are the one. Funny thing is tes6, which comes out either in 2025 or 2028 will become starfield, but with magic! Lol.
Especially since they use that bug-eyed whore, Debra Wilson, as the basis for most of them.
I think they have a real problem with attractive people. I always say that I see normal/fat/ugly people everyday so as an escape it is nice to have more attractive people.
Three primary questions, considering you've played a bunch. Is it fun? How's exploration feel, especially compared to past games like Fallout or Skyrim? How bad/intrusive is THE MESSAGE? Thanks!
Now that's just unforgivable.
It's not just games, they do it for movies too. It's really messed up. They're so scared of beauty that, even in their alleged quest for "representation," they make most minorities look like fucking mutants. There's occasionally attractive blacks and Asians in movies/TV, but it seems like more often, especially if they're race swapping, they have to add that little extra bit of insult and just pick people who look like absolute genetic rejects. Such equality, such respect. "We love minorities, we just hate beauty more," they seem to be saying. Not that they even love minorities, but that's a separate topic.
That's kind of jarring. As is taking some corpse's spacesuit, but they're still left with it. As weird as stripping your dead enemies felt sometimes in past games, it looks weirder taking their armor and not changing their appearance. Such a weird choice.
yeah, they kept it to a minimum. in fallout 4, you had meat bags. in skyrim you had skeletons and body parts everywhere.
It's nice that you brought up the "rated T" aspect. I've seen the hints of that in other videos and reviews, but among all the complaints people have nobody seems to care about that one. It gives of the feel of a focus-group-driven, sanitized - I don't want to say kid friendly but what passes for kid friendly today - corporate product. Like a PG13 Disney movie made for teens.
I know it was a different company but this is such a far cry from the original Fallout games made in the fucking 1990s which were full of (2D) ultra-violence, sex, slavery, and bad language. Come to think of it, even Fallout 3 contained more racy content than this. Is this what "your game on ESG" looks like?
Yeah... they didnt take many risks making this game in terms of story/content. Its all very vanilla and non personal. Dont think there is anything remotely offensive, like they ran the story and dialogue through the ethics department dozens of time.
Its basically a marvel movie script where you can decide to be good or evil. And if you choose evil, its just not too evil lol.
Eh, I wasn't planning on buying it anyway. I kinda got bored of Bethesda's games, Starfield never looked interesting to me (on the contrary, it always looked boring especially in comparison to TES and Fallout), and I'm generally just not a big fan of space opera settings.
No. Just no.
Many bugs (at least better than the launch of FO76), filled with bullshit wokeness (LOTS of girlboss-types and also anti-White horseshit), crappy graphics (its still the gamebryo engine, after all), endless loading screens - this game ist almost like an advertisement for No Mans Sky. One of the only good thing is the modability (and no Denuvo since with it it would be near impossible to combine both of them, at least to the extend a BGS game does)
My plans really haven't changed; Maybe I'll get it in a few years if I get really bored.
Maybe I won't.
I've got plenty games to play around with as-is.
I'll wait until the GOTY edition that fixes all the bullshit.
Then I'll wait for the mods to remove whatever the GOTY didn't fix.
Smart idea. Mods for Skyrim has made it a game I will literally be playing til I die
Ive been reviewing mods for 10 years. Im slightly excited for for starfield but not excited in having to deal with youtube. They use bots to scan my vids with ai to look for stuff to age restrict. They dont like bikinis. Yeah. Im one of the people that have sexy mods in their videos. And nope.. pornhub and xvideos are not choices anymore. Funny thing was i had some resident evil mod videos. I had jill in a sexy outfit and just had gameplay/cutscences. Both sites started to take them down. Reason??? Tentacles and non consensual... basically they dont like jill having a tentacle shoved down her throat. But that cutscene is a legit scene from the game lol. Pornhub said it just violated tos.. xvideos wanted me to sign up for an onlyfans knockoff and give my real life ID to them lol.
It aint easy being sleezy.
I checked a walkthrough of it on YouTube. Mainly out of morbid curiosity.
90% of all named NPC and 100% of all the good, smart or interesting people were either brown/black/asian or girlbosses. Only white males I saw were a pirate (who died like a bitch in a matter of seconds), some random ugly fat guy who only existed to be annoying and the Adoring Fan meme dude.
No interest.
I was never planning to get it so my plans remain unchanged.
Honestly it was never even on my radar. Just some name I kept hearing sporadically over the years but never cared to learn about.
What games are on your radar?
Sea of Stars, and that one I only gave a second glance when I saw that the music was done by the same guy who did Chrono Trigger. I know literally nothing else about the game, but that was enough to make me do a double take.
I'm watching my cousin play it right now. It's giving me real SMRPG meets Chrono Trigger vibes. Timed Hits, smooth battle transitions, teamwork attacks. It's got it all.
Good to know it's not just all surface level flash. I appreciate the field report.
Sounds cool. Also need to check out Chrono Trigger
Jesus Christ, how have you not picked up Chrono Trigger yet? That game is a genuine masterpiece. Go find a SNES emulator and queue that up as your next game. It's worth it for the soundtrack alone.
I had a genesis and Sega cd growing and then PlayStation. Plus spent lots of time playing Madden. But an emulator should be easy to find
Might pirate it when a good Wabbajack pack comes out, puts in some big titty aliens or something.
I'm getting it for free as a promo with the new computer I'm building, so I'm definitely going to play it.
If I had to buy it...well, I almost never buy games on release anyway, but I'd certainly be less inclined than I was, after seeing some of the gameplay and impressions. Now, don't get me wrong, I am still excited to try it out. I think there will be fun there, I think I'll enjoy it. But I also suspect I'll be very frustrated at some things. Woke shit aside (how the heck they made "Skyrim in Space" woke is beyond me, but they seemed to give it the ol' college try at the very least), my biggest complaint is that it actually just looks really empty in a lot of places. Which is bizarre for a Bethesda game.
In Skyrim you could wander around and usually find something. It all being one world is a big plus, yet Starfield is billing itself as being "1,000" worlds. Which would be great if they made it work, but it seems from what little I've seen so far (didn't want to spoil myself) they didn't. There are some random encounters, but they seem repetitive, and I'm not sure how many lead to side quests and the like. It seems like it will be harder to stumble onto things like in past Bethesda games, which was one of their big strengths. As far as I can tell, your best bet in Starfield is specifically follow something - main quest, side quest, activity, etc. - than just go exploring. Which, again, just seems crazy, since this game is supposedly all about exploration.
Again, it may sound like I'm shitting on it. I'm not, at least not entirely. Character progression looks fun, finding and upgrading equipment looks interesting, when you are on a quest looks good (I still wish it felt more vast like past games although, again, this is the impression of someone who hasn't even played the game yet), ship customization and general ogling looks fun, base building looks...alright, factions could be interesting, and more. Again, I fully expect to have fun playing Starfield. I just don't think - from what I've seen - it's anything near as good as it could have been. Also, at the risk of invoking the whole 'modders will fix it' trope, I do think a lot of the current issues can be smoothed out down the line. Until then, I think I'll have a suitable amount of fun with my free Starfield copy, running around blasting people, and taking their gear.
I give up. We had leaks after leaks of how shit it is, and people will still glady buy bethshit. This fucking industry and its customer base deserves the middling crap it produces.
I might get it if they didn't make certain NPCs immortal. I kinda want to go full Warhammer 40k on the heretics.
Nice!
It's hardly Role Playing if you're forced to play a certain role. A good RPG allows for anything.
I was not all that sold on the game, if it was non-woke I would have given it a try but pronouns on a game I was not excited for is a pass.
Clearly ES6 will have pronouns but I'll give that one a try because I like fantasy settings.
Homie, don't buy the game. You know it's a boring, generic Bethesda dumpster fire that also happens to have a bunch of woke crap in it. I bet you can find a much better, cheaper game pretty easily. It wouldn't be much of a sacrifice.
True. I could just go through Steam.
I never planned on buying it in the first place. I got fed up with Bethesda's shit years ago.
So pirate it after there's a mod for it like American Krogan's "Grounded Commonwealth" mod for Fallout 4.
Currently watching a playthrough, the game looks like a snoozefest. There's no parts of it which are actually making me want to play it.
I might download it when I eventually get gamepass to play everspace 2. Otherwise $5 bargain bin sounds more tempting.
I’ve only heard about the pronouns stuff which seems to be in everything and I hear there are lots of girl bosses but like I said I’ll most likely get it around thanksgiving
I have Game Pass paid through June. Right now I'm 70/30 in favor of extending it another year if the Christmas sales on subscriptions are good enough. Last year it cost me $95 for a year and I got more than $95 worth of gaming from it.
So I won't be buying it, but I can play it. I might try it out after Thanksgiving. I'm sure I will eventually even if it's a year or two from now. Honestly I waver on how much I'm interested. I loved Fallout. Lukewarm on Elder Scrolls. Starfield just looks boring to me. I don't "roleplay" a made up character in my head, so being dropped with what feels like generic person into generic sci-fi space world doesn't catch my attention. Fallout has a feel to the world--the cold war era theme, the real old music, etc. That's what gets me. Not the characters or the just ok story. Starfield looks to offer me none of that unless I want some high school kid's bored at school drawing on a notebook of a space place with some "atmospheric" music we downloaded somewhere playing.
On top of that I'm just too busy. I've got something planned about every other weekend on average until late February and I'm playing Witcher 3 expansions and Atomic Heart right now with a not short list of half finished stuff behind it. I play with my cousin on weeknights most of the time. Time is just too short to pick up another long grindy RPG.
raises hand slowly
Despite the feminist messaging? Really, man?
Sometimes... Imp really disappoints me. :(
Cities Skylines is like sim city? Sounds interesting
Doesn't Cities Skylines come out like every month?
It looks like the new engine will support much larger cities.
Welp you made me dig into it and turns out they have the same engine (unity), and while the sequel will let you build in 150 tiles, those tiles are smaller, so it is roughly the same size as a modded game of skylines with 81 tiles.
So yeah, marketing-fu. Bah Lethn, must you strike the sun from my skies?!
Sadly, it seems like Unreal does really poor at scale, even with the UE5.1 64-bit floating point precision update. It has really poor physics scaling when complex computations and multiple independent entities are introduced, it's why Keen Software passed on it for Space Engineers 2: https://youtu.be/s_2m2RM0c7g?t=229
There's also some major problems with destabilisation when moving too far away from the zero point. And I don't mean millions of kilometres away, but even dozen of kilometres causes some issues, as that's partly why there are hard limits on track sizes in games like Assetto Corso and the Ride series. As the physics just break down if the map is too large.
There's also the issue with not being able to use a lot of the higher-end rendering techniques at scale with large world models, such as high-quality translucency + Lumen + Nanite, as it has a tendency to crash: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajUmpyfQJvg
As he mentions, the solution to that is to basically reduce active entities under the crash threshold, but for a game like Cities Skylines I doubt they could capture the quality of gameplay they want with UE5's rendering features by limiting the number of active entities. They could do a trade-off, but if they're sacrificing all of the cool UE5 rendering features for playability, seems like they may as well stick with Unity.
However, I think UE5 is really good for corridor shooters, cinematic games, and titles with a tight cinematic focus. It just seems to really struggle when projects start scaling up. It also still suffers a lot from frame processing hitches (as was and still is a common problem with Jedi Survivor), which was a common problem with both UE3 and UE4. So I don't know if a game like Cities Skylines would benefit from moving over to something like UE5 until it receives a point patch that better optimises the workflow for large world simulations.
I'm definitely curious to know how that fares as devs start scaling up their projects. I haven't really had a lot of time to track development on Godot 4 but I'm really interested to see how it handles large world models.
