BUT ALSO, it's just a kid's movie, stop taking it so seriously lol, why do you care so much about it?
I fucking hate when they reply with this snarky bullshit. Superhero movies ARE important - they’re modern day American mythology, each superhero is our society’s modern iteration of gods, just as every previous great civilisation has had. We may not literally worship them the way previous cultures did, but the mythology serves up the same sort of morality through storytelling.
“With great power comes great responsibility”
"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me."
“I am a Jedi, like my father before me…”
These catchphrases and memes etc are so much more than “just stupid kids movies”. They were a reinforcement of our values (eg truth, justice and the American way), and they were VERY important to little boys like me.
All little boys like my son have to look forward to these days is vacuous feminism, narcissistic millennial writing and black/brown worship. Fuck that, as far my son is aware there are 3 Star Wars movies only, everything else is gay retarded fan fiction
As a life long comic book reader and collector I can say the worst thing for comics was nerdiness being trendy thanks to big bang theory and the obsession with getting girls in comics. Couldn’t just let the hobby attract people who enjoy it.
The biggest tell was when Luke Skywalker referred to his own lightsaber as a “laser sword”. That’s not something a Star Wars fan would ever write. In fact, it’s something a Star Wars hater would write.
It's money laundering. It's how they've been cooking the books for the last 50+ years. They don't care if they destroy entertainment or destabilize society, as long as they get paid.
I enjoyed reading about Luke’s Jedi order in the EU. Why that wasn’t included in the sequels is beyond me. Also the main character should’ve been a grand child of Anakin and Padme since Lucas said it’s about Anakin, his children, and grandchildren.
Star Wars was ruined with the obsession with diversity/girl power, not having a plan, actively working to piss off fans, etc. I remember before the prequels came out when I assumed that the future of star wars was books and comics. Should’ve stayed that way after the prequels
It was hubris. Disney was handed decades of expanded universe on a silver platter, but day one they declared it all non-canon because they wanted to be the ones to write Star Wars, to make it 'better'. They assumed the old fans would slurp it up regardless, and they'd get that mythic Modern Audience on top. Now, it's too late. Most of the original cast is now dead, the brand is tarnished, and ideologues are still too entrenched in the company to admit they're the ones at fault. Maybe in 20 years someone will take another crack at it.
The irony is that the only way Star Wars can be saved now is for a new company to come in and say all Disney Star Wars is non-canon then remake everything Disney attempted to do but better.
And that won't happen unless Star Wars becomes so unprofitable for Disney that they decide to sell it off... And even then they probably wouldn't do it because they'd be dumb to give up the rights. The company would have to go under or be at risk of doing so (which they're not even close to) for you to even have hope if it.
They also know that even if they never made another Star Wars anything, it'd still write checks.
Exactly. Disney is still profitable, only because Disney is an amusement park company. And Star Wars is still profitable because people are still buying content and figurines of the original Star Wars franchise, created by George Lucas. Disney is still nowhere near going bankrupt, and Star Wars is still nowhere near being dead weight to them, even if they utterly wrecked its reputation.
You sure about that? Their parks are in the same "raise prices to make up for fewer customers" death spiral that the theaters are in. And all of the money and effort being thrown into their competitor across the street at Epic Universe is going to let them start eating Disney's lunch.
Disney is in big trouble financially across the board.
Oh, it's definitely in a downward spiral, but I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that it's still the only part of their business actually making a profit, and propping up all the rest.
With the way Hollywood has been going in the las 8 years, Disney will probably declare all of Star Wars non-canon and launch a reimagining twice within the next decade.
They'd be smart to at least do it with the sequel trilogy stuff, but they'll never do it because of the weird hold/blackmail that Kathleen Kennedy has over the company.
I know there are way more normies than book readers but alienating a loyal group of fans like that isn’t smart. Could’ve just had two continuities. I also remember someone saying they probably would’ve been better off just getting the income from OT and prequel merchandise
I also remember someone saying they probably would’ve been better off just getting the income from OT and prequel merchandise
They literally would have been better off not doing anything at all. I haven't really kept up with this but the last time I checked, they still haven't recouped their investment from buying Lucasfilm.
It's impossible to know really. The movies themselves haven't come close, but Disney does so much with the IP and it's hard to know exactly how much revenue it's generated. Just think about the huge multi billion dollar investments in the parks. How do you attribute park revenue to a specific IP that's not accounting magic? TV shows on Disney+ is another black hole. The only easily decipherable revenue streams to look at would be direct purchases of media and merchandise.
Just think about the huge multi billion dollar investments in the parks. How do you attribute park revenue to a specific IP that's not accounting magic?
Yea. They cherry pick certain things. I stopped watching Disney Star Wars in 21. I would rather they make their own stuff and not bastardize EU content
I think it should have been revealed that the most powerful Jedi is none other than me, impishdesire. And then I would have married the blue tentacle head girl and lived happily ever after with my mixed species children
I remember reading a book where Luke was flying around the galaxy, seeking anyone who seemed force sensitive to recruit them to the new Jedi Order. His friends were helping in their own ways, like Lando checking out gambling circles for people with unusually consistent streaks of luck. Jedi were found, false positives led to other story hooks, there was drama!
It was infinitely more interesting than anything Disney ever cooked up.
Star Wars was ruined with the obsession with diversity/girl power
Ironically enough, the EU did it better with both Leia and how she was trained while maintaining her politics, and fan favourite Mara Jade. It was already done. Fans already liked these ideas. The only ones who didn't were the executives like Rian and those at Disney.
Exactly. Jaina Solo is probably my favorite character and the EU was moving in the direction of having her be the main focus when Disney took over. I was totally ok with that. There was a trilogy in the works that was cancelled. I was like Disney you can’t at least give the EU fans that trilogy? You are that petty?
If you asked me to make a Star Wars movie I would just make a good movie instead of a bad one, but that's why he's a famous director and I'm waiting for the Chinese to release enough free AI tools to let me generate a version of Dune with Zendaya replaced by Kirsten Dunst from the Sam Raimi Spiderman movies.
Pretty easy to purposely tank a movie franchise when it is not your money you are pissing away and when your reputation among the woke only moves upward with each IP that gets scalped.
I wouldn't have but many might have gotten over the girlboss shit. I'm not even that bothered by making Luke an irritating crotchety old geezer, and extra bonus Mark Hamill didn't have to act at all to play that role it was straight from the heart. Though the backstory of all of what happened with him and Han and Kylo Ren was MCU level garbage with no fleshing out.
What I can't get over may sound dumb, but hyperspacing a ship into another to destroy it broke the physics of everything. From now on all ultimate weapons are to be destroyed by hyperspacing another large ship into it. Why not build hyperspace missiles even. Why the hell did Luke fly down that canyon on the death star? Did no one think back then to just evacuate a ship and have C-3PO hyperspace it into the death star?
What I can't get over may sound dumb, but hyperspacing a ship into another to destroy it broke the physics of everything.
How? It's what I hated about the star trek reboot movies too, they'd throw out these concepts like interplanetary transport then look the other way like it didn't make large swathes of the setting completely pointless.
Because the Holdo maneuver has a one in a million chance of success. The black stormtrooper told the hobbit that in that throwaway line in the next movie
Agreed, I actually didn't mind Rey in the second movie, first movie she was overpowered for her experience level, had no journey, but didn't ruin the movie.
The second movie had too much crap that made no sense to ignore, and they made Luke unlikeable.
Imagine copping to making a bad movie on purpose. And then still getting work afterwards.
Hollywood in a nutshell.
And the critics said if you didn’t like it it was because you were too dumb to get it
It's a stunningly brilliant commentary on the nature of Good & Evil, war, poverty, classism, and responsibility with power...
BUT ALSO, it's just a kid's movie, stop taking it so seriously lol, why do you care so much about it? lmao

"Jake Skyjacker"
Exactly how they sounded
Johnson wishes he could have written The Good The Bad The Ugly
An "intentional" bad movie in one of the biggest movie franchises in history, no less.
The second most recognizable story on the planet save the Bible itself.
And he killed it. Someone should make a point to spray paint something like that on his tombstone eventually.

Someone should make a spinoff with similar themes that ends up being better. Then everyone can forget Star Wars.

Star Wars Episode 9: The Last Command would have been a $2.5-3 billion dollar box office.
Yup. And Mara Jade onscreen would’ve been a big hit. She was a huge fan favorite in the book community
They literally would have been better off not doing anything at all. I haven't really kept up with this but the last time I checked, they still haven't recouped their investment from buying Lucasfilm.

Um, well
I don't need to be an accounting wizard to know that they took a bath on at least part of the investment.
Because the kikes that own Disney would have had to pay royalties to the collective authors who created the EU storylines and characters.
And that’s a bridge too far for them.
This is the real reason.
That's part of it but the main reason is so they could destroy and remake it, get rid of all the old characters and insert their own narratives.
They had money to get the rights easily if they really wanted, unless some of the authors were incredibly stubborn.
I get that but they could’ve continued EU stories in a separate continuity from their canon stuff. They already rerelease EU content
Well, they repurpose it. They’ll steal a name or location here and there…
Oh, they re-canonized Grand Admiral Thrawn, didn’t they? Having seen none of this shit myself, it didn’t stick immediately.
Not a bad life
Aayala Secura, or Ayaala Secura, or Ayalaa Securah or something like that.
I remember reading a book where Luke was flying around the galaxy, seeking anyone who seemed force sensitive to recruit them to the new Jedi Order. 'I didn't want to make a successful movie. I just wanted to start a conversation.'
Narrator: The conversation was about how much everyone hates Rian Johnson and his movie.
Ewoks were the best part of Star wars. It was like getting to watch a viet nam movie when I was eight.
Holy cow, I've never thought of it that way. I think you might be right.
It's also why they were in the climax of the best Star wars movie. Ewoks are the ultimate form of a kids movie for selling toys.
They toys were dope as shit, btw.
I had Ewok toys. When AI is more advanced I’d love to see the original vision for ROTJ where they go to Chewie’s planet
Cool story, you're still remembered as the director that made the Star Wars fanbase apathetic.
"bad on purpose" is an accurate description of modern art.
Disney could have had an interesting through line with the kid of a Skywalker turning to the Dark Side, while a Palpatine was training to be a Jedi.
“Best I can do is Rey Palpatine.”
Total Bullshit. Kathleen Kennedy knew what she was doing, by turning him loose.
I’ve watched the original trilogy countless times.
I’ve even watched the prequels more than once. Terribly written but fantastic action sequences.
I’ve watched Clone Wars more than once.
I’ve never wanted to rewatch the force awakens. I’d pay to remove my memory of TLJ. And I didn’t watch the final movie because TLJ was so bad.
The totality of my discussion on TLJ? It’s shit.
I know. Where is the MIB memory removal stick?
Pretty easy to purposely tank a movie franchise when it is not your money you are pissing away and when your reputation among the woke only moves upward with each IP that gets scalped.
"I fucked it up intentionally"
Is the same as
"I was accidentally right by being this wrong"

Why build a Death Star at all when you can just put a hyperdrive and a guidance droid on a big rock and shoot it at any target you want?
How? It's what I hated about the star trek reboot movies too, they'd throw out these concepts like interplanetary transport then look the other way like it didn't make large swathes of the setting completely pointless.

He had me, I did think he was retarded for real.
Digging up old culture war crap in a desperate attempt to reset the narrative, Bannon?
I saw the rats fleeing the sinking ship. Merry Christmas, natalists!
Fuck off retard.
Cope.
