You made a movie that appeals to less than 3% of the population. Women prefer to watch romcoms that are about women (which is why they're also called chick flicks). Guys don't watch romcoms at all. The only people who would ever want to watch your shitty movie are the lispers like you that pretty much everybody finds creepy and annoying. Oh, and all those progressive activists you thought you had in the bag? Yeah, they're not the type to go out to the movies.

No one is obligated to like your film, to want your film, or give you their money for your film. If they didn't come to see it, it's not their fault; it's yours.

“Last night I snuck in and sat in the back of a sold out theater playing ‘Bros’ in LA. The audience howled with laughter start to finish, burst into applause at the end and some were wiping away tears as they walked out,” Eichner wrote. “It was truly magical. Really. I am VERY proud of this movie.”

So the movie is seeing disappointing box office numbers, and yet you had to illegally sneak into a showing that was sold out? Yeah, I'm calling bullshit on that.

The star also divulged that a theater chain had mounted plans to pull the trailer for “Bros” from its programming due to “gay content,” but Universal eventually convinced the company to maintain its placement in the pre-show rotation. “America, fuck yeah,” Eichner wrote.

Well, nice to see you appreciate this country for once. Probably the only time in your life, then it'll be back to cheering on Antifa and BLM for their next round of statue toppling and attempted secession.

I’m not sure that encouraging corporate bullying a la gay wedding cake is a good “America, fuck yeah” moment, anyway…

Abusing power to use your “first amendment rights” to curb stomp someone else (a private business, no less) who doesn’t want to be forced to show your shit seems fairly… Sub-optimal, to me…

I really don’t think that was the original intention of the damn thing, tbh…

And the wild hypocrisy of them forcing tech companies to do the exact opposite at the same damn time makes it even worse, IMHO…

That's their idea of America though. One where they can force people to obey them, and their opponents aren't even allowed a choice. So when it benefits them, they love America a little.

Manifest Destiny had a clear defined goal and end point. If these guys reached their believed goal, or even had to define their opposition, they would collapse into infighting and purity spirals because they lack either.

And these romcoms that women like are about women and a guy. Like you said something that focuses on a tiny percentage of the population shouldn’t be surprised

Guys don't watch romcoms at all.

Guys watch romcoms, but only with women they want to have sex with.

Billy also told Trump voters (people he's attacked for years), even those that are gay or pro-gay, not to come. In the beginning of the trailer he outright says he's not making it for straight men.

So he told half the country not to watch it, made something less than 10% of the country would be interested in the 1st place and acts indignant it didn't do well.

Wait, I thought that "representation" was important because people were meant to only relate to people who are like them. Why would anyone straight go to watch a movie they have nothing in relation to?

That is unless of course in-group biases are wrong. But I'm sure Eichner will be admitting that aaaaaannnnnyyyyy day now.

Or just acknowledge that something that exclusively focuses on a gay/lesbian couple isn’t something for the masses. By all means market to the lgbt crowd call me a homophobe all you want, but if there is romance in a movie or story I want it to be between a man and a woman. This is why Hallmark’s recent obsession with lgbt diversity surprised me

“straight people, especially in certain parts of the country, just didn’t show up.”

Yeah, that's MOST of the country, helium farts. Maybe the reason no one watched your stupid fucking movie is because no one even knew it existed considering people have checked out of cinema. As someone who is gay, lemme give you a piece of advice: gay people aren't sitting around thinking "boy, I sure am gay" all day long.

If anyone didn't know/cared before, how this faggot got his start was ambushing people on the streets, mainly NYC, with a camera and microphone to ask them random shit and yell at them when they took too long to answer or couldn't answer. According to faggots, he was super hilarious. Everyone else just wished he'd encounter a cannibal.

See, I'm surprised this guy got a movie considering how bad of a "comedian" he is. I remember a few years ago he had a youtube thing on "funny or dying" (because the only people who watched it were either funny and wanted to curb the edge, or dying and wanted something to make them realize that death isn't the worst thing). His whole gimmick was that he'd go up to people and ask them questions only to give responses that I wouldn't say were so much "funny" and more what you'd expect to see out of a retarded 5-year old trying to look smart in front of his class. "For a dollar, who is your favorite batman?" "Val Kilmer." "Wow, you like bat-nipples? You must be a massive racist."

The only selling point for "Bros" is that it's a gay romcom. That's it.

We've seen so many gay movies, gay characters, gay tv shows, etc and it's normalized now. I can't turn on the TV without seeing a gay couple in commercials, or ads for RuPaul or some other gay themed show, and don't get me started on "Pride Month". Now that homosexuality has been so normalized in culture it's not special anymore. So what does Bros offer that's new and unique? Not a damn thing.

I saw a few trailer advertisements for that movie, and from my sample-size of one, homos don't want to watch that shit either.

Oh and the French version trailer was a pure "what the fuck is wrong with the authors?" moment of "oh remember straight people? They are so done and gone."

Was that supposed to be a joke? Do they think the average gay dude would laugh hearing that? Or instead feel unease because someone is just shitting on his parents, other relatives and friends for being normal?

Maby there was a funny way to pull something like that. This failed. Or did they think being deliberately inflamatory would give them lucrative "backlash-advertisement"? That one isn't gonna draw anyone to the theater. Only a handful of handclap emojis under a sassy twitter post from a terminaly-urban degen.

I’m actually not sure I agree with this. I don’t seek them out, but I also do not think this whole “hurr durr, if you watch When Harry Met Sally or the Wedding Crashers [or whatever] you must be gay!” schtick is overly healthy…

Let people enjoy what they want, honestly.

Not every rom com ever made is a steaming pile of shit. Much like not every “Action Movie” ever is any good at all.

I’ve never been fond of this stereotype. And yet, guess what? I am most definitely not gay.

Okay but the numbers don't lie. Women are the primary audience by a huge margin.

I've seen a fair number of rom-coms over the years and they aren't all terrible. But I've only seen them on TV several years after they were released. Their box office has to be damn near 80% female with the other 20% being dude's who are trying to bang the girl they're with.

I feel like with movies like wedding crashers and when harry met Sally the emphasis is more on the comedy than on the romance part and the main characters are the guys. Usually more absurdist or macho humor. So it appeals to guys more.

Whereas a more "chick" romcom has more emphasis on the romance than the comedy. Is usually more down to earth in its humor. Probably a good example is "you've got mail."

▲ 3 ▼
– bamboozler1 3 points 3 years ago +3 / -0

Probably true I guess.

I still kind of like both, tbh.

I’m not really a huge fan of “macho” comedy (Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller in particular. I really, really don’t like Will Ferrell’s schtick), so… Interestingly I don’t particularly mind either.

I just found “You’ve Got Mail” a bit boring/mawkish, but I didn’t hate it…

Didn’t like Notting Hill. Quite liked 4 Weddings…

Who knows, honestly.

I’m not really one for the whole “gender stereotypes” when it comes to movies, or tv, or music.

Yet I like sports, and cars, and motorbikes, and “outdoorsy shit” (inc. shit like skydiving, bungee jumping, canyoning, etc), and very, very much only like women (some might say “too much”, lol), so…

Dunno. I’m really not a fan of putting people into boxes with this stuff. Never have been.

Me neither. I enjoy all the “manly things” but I’ve seen some rom cons that were good as I’ve read some romance novels. Although originally as a teen I read them to get insight on meeting women

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– bamboozler1 2 points 3 years ago +2 / -0

Completely agreed on all counts. Though I don’t think I’ve ever read a romance novel per se (does Don Quixote count?).

See, I never got “taught” any of that stuff. No siblings, no older male cousins, abusive parents, abusive extended family. And I was too “proud” to ask my male friends for tips. So, much like you, I watched goddamn Hollywood and whatever, to try and gain some of those insights…

Some people don’t seem to get this, but exactly as you said…

Does it make them “accurate”? Of course not, lol. But after innumerable failures with girls, I guess it was better than nothing, lol…

I'm not trying to be argumentative but is Wedding Crashers considered a romcom?

It was marketed as a raunchy bro comedy and there are some of those elements in the movie, but it is indeed a romcom. I forget if the movie was any good.

It’s… Ok. I don’t really like Vince Vaughn (or Bradley Cooper) much, so… YMMV.

Owen Wilson is great, as usual, and surprisingly Christopher Walken, Isla Fisher and Rachel McAdams are all really good…

It’s the most I’ve actually enjoyed those two actresses in anything, so I guess that’s an achievement of sorts..? I’m not normally a Fisher fan, either…
