Vance was anti-Trump back in 2016. That said, he seems to have dropped opposition to Trump entirely - I don't know what's in his heart of hearts & all that, of course, but I'm not aware of him disparaging or even distancing himself from Trump in more recent years - and policy-wise he's been fairly solid AFAIK.

Especially on foreign & economic policy, he's been a consistent opponent of funding the Ukraine war (so much so that Ukraine put him on their kill list and he in turn personally got their tranny spokesman fired for advocating violence against people like himself) and a proponent of protectionist trade warfare. He's pro-tariff, pro-border wall & pro-trade war with China, which is a huge improvement over the older-school GOP 'free trade, free movement of workers & offshoring at all costs' business-as-usual. He's also on record opposing escalating shit in the Mideast to a war with Iran, which I'm guessing is the best any modern non-interventionist politician in office can do currently with AIPAC on a hair trigger & sure to bury any candidate who tries to take the next step & oppose funding Israel directly (as evidenced by what they did to Brandon Herrera and are still doing to the non-AOC Squad members). Socially he seems pretty standard for a Midwestern Republican - pro-life, voted against the law codifying fag marriage, is against trooning out children, etc.

At my most optimistic I'm hoping this is a sign that Trump is trying to groom a young successor (another advantage for Vance, he's only 39) who already has some name recognition to steer the GOP's future course: genuine conservative populists and American nationalists who actually want to conserve something other than Lockheed Martin's profit margins, are anti-immigration, anti-world policing, and prioritize domestic manufacturing & improving the livelihoods of Americans first over making the tycoons & Red Chinese richer than ever. At my most pessimistic, I still fear that somewhere very deep down, he may still be a Never-Trump sleeper agent and is waiting for a second attempt on Trump's life in hopes of playing LBJ in red. I guess we'll see soon enough.

One bad thing to come from this is that Vance just won his Senate seat in 2022, and him leaving it now means a replacement will have to be selected by the Governor of Ohio. Said governor is Mike DeWine, who's a RINO, so yeah.

Vance was anti-Trump back in 2016.

I won't hold that against anyone. Prior to being elected and us getting to see what he was actually made of, it would have been easy to consider Trump as a gimmick candidate running as a publicity stunt.

That was almost precisely my opinion of Trump going into the 2016 election.

"Yet another rich ideologue who says a bunch of things and won't do shit once he's in office."

Didn't think he'd be Hitler, but also didn't think he was even remotely genuine.

But he was, by far, the least bad president we've had in my adult lifetime.

Even if Trump was a joke candidate, he couldn’t possibly be any bigger of a joke than the person he ran against

Depends on if Vance's remarks were during the primaries or general election. When it was Trump vs. Cruz vs. Rubio vs. Kasich vs. Carson vs. Jeb! vs... Trump was definitely one of the less conventional candidates.

He also (((prayed))) at the special wall wearing a tiny hat. Seriously, are all "vetted" politicians required to suck Israel's dick on camera? A race traitor and jew worshipper isn't an ally. At best, he's just more of the same civic nationalist "conservative" failures we've seen on the right for decades. I can't believe how many times this lesson needs to be repeated for people on the right to get it.

If you were Indian, would you rather an incompetent Kamala actually having a real position or a nice Indian housewife who doesn't have any power but isn't a complete and utter embarrassment?

I think Vance will pick up a few Indian voters, but that's about all he'll do for the ticket.

He seems like a solid person to carry on Trump's legacy so choosing him seems like Trump is confident of winning.

You seem to be saying Kamala would import more Indians so Americans of Indian descent would prefer her in charge even though she's a clown.

If she was at all competent that would be a valid concern, because that's what they do, but I just don't see anyone thinking she would be capable of doing that.

Don't know much about Vance.

I heard someone (maybe Styxenhammer?) cope on a post-assassination stream that Trump’s brush with death would get him to change his ways, close his inner circle and make better picks for loyalists in his admin.

The Vance pick was made pre-pew pew, but the fact he's still installing a Never Trumper as his successor demonstrates that it's still status quo.

Vance has been very good in the Senate so far. Is it possible it's been an act to gain further power? Maybe. But forever branding someone for saying some retarded things several years ago when their actions over the last few years are consistently good is shortsighted.

Vance has been one of the better populist voices in American politics over the last couple years. Definitely one of the better picks he could have made, if we are keeping the pool to people who were reasonably possible.

Vance has been TrumpOrBust for a while now. And ideologically, he's most aligned with Trump of all those guys.

Trump is putting aside his ego for once and picking the man who's best for the job.

My only worry is that Kamala Harris will out-debate him. She's a clown on the stump, but as a prosecutor, she can be a very good debater. Let's hope Biden's blunders can help the Trump team avoid a debate.

Puts the rust belt on lock. But saying that's their only purpose in this climate isn't true. He needs assassination insurance. Assuming Vance's change of heart was genuine and his Senate record reflects his actual intentions as VP, or God forbid, as president, then killing Trump isn't much of an upgrade for the deep state or their crazy leftist lapdogs, if at all.

A person choosing to marry a girl they want to marry isn't the replacement that people justifiably bitch about. It's called freedom to do what you want.

The replacement people bitch about is millions of illegals pouring through the border. Or tons of people being brought over to do jobs that Americans can do. Even the vast majority of people who want to eliminate illegal immigration and strictly clamp down on legal immigration would be in favor of allowing visas for good faith marriages that aren't fraudulent.

But what do I know. I just have lived in the region my entire life.

Have you not actually read what the people in power have said they've wanted to do to White countries via the Kalergi plan? Miscegenation is one of their primary desired ways of replacing White people. Why do you think they're making all couples interracial in media? It's normalization and genocide priming propaganda.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 3 ▼
– Bouldabassed 3 points 1 year ago +3 / -0

I'm not sure what you're expecting me to say here? People should have the freedom to marry who they want. White men shouldn't need to restrict themselves to white women, many of whom are truly vile creatures in this day and age.

That being said, naturally, the best outcome is for that to be rectified ASAP. And of course, shady entities intentionally pushing that kind of propaganda with those kind of intentions deserve the wood chipper. But you're not going to find me saying that if a white dude wants to marry hispanic, asian, or black woman that he shouldn't due to some notion that he needs to preserve the white race. That he needs to go shack up with some harpy that despises him and will divorce rape him because white genocide or some shit.

Trump's weakest demographic is working, white, middle class. The 2020 election was right, "Union Dems" that voted for him really did pull back. This stems that bleeding. He's also a staunch populist so he's going to have a total lock on the midwest.

This is absolutely the single best possible fucking pick he could have made. I didn't think he'd do it because it would be too good of a pick. He's shit at picking people, and he ended up picking the single fucking best one.

JD Vance is genuinely interested in helping the American poor, white, working class; and is the author of Hillbilly Elegy. He is a staunch populist conservative, anti-war, anti-censorship, anti-globalist, anti-transgenderism, anti-tech monopoly.

He's not a libertarian, but he's fucking our guy.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 5 ▼
– Gizortnik 5 points 1 year ago +5 / -0

I don't know, and frankly, I don't give a shit because I have enough evidence to suggest to me that that opinion has long since been discarded.

I voted for Hillary in 2016 because I didn't think Trump was a genuine candidate, and would end up being a bumbling moron. I was completely fucking wrong. And he's the best president I had in my entire life time. Fucking Sargon was right, if Hillary had won, we would have had a full-scale war with Russia and a possible nuclear exchange. I thought that was cooky nonsense at the time. Now I realize the reason we didn't have a nuclear exchange yet is because they don't have the political capital for it. They would have done it! They still want to!

I've said this before, but it was NPR's coverage of him that normalized me away from the political Left because it was so bad I couldn't tolerate the cognitive dissonance. It takes time to unlearn the programing.

Yeah he probably said things that were disagreeable to where he is now, but he figured it out. That's assuming any of that is true, which I don't know that it is.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– Assassin47 1 point 1 year ago +1 / -0

That's assuming any of that is true, which I don't know that it is.

That's fair, especially this part. I didn't see video of all that myself, just going by what other people are claiming. That said, I give far greater leeway to a rando like you changing their political stances than I do to politicians. I barely consider them human. I tend to agree with Antonio that they only ever do what's expedient and is currently being demanded by their employers. In that sense, Vance reminds me of Cruz. They both literally "grew the beard" and became Trumpian. I suppose to the extent it means he now votes our way because he knows he has to then that's good enough, but I'd keep an eye on him. I won't pretend he has any personal convictions or wouldn't hesitate to change his stripes when the wind blows the other way.
