I'll have you know that Cow Hide drum was their greatest piece of technology and had massive cultural significance to the Numbagu tribe.
Or at least it was until they were all killed by the neighboring tribe who then proceeded to sell it to British traders in exchange for an eighth ounce of opium and a two feet of iron chain to wear as a necklace
I was just at an art museum on a major American campus the other week and was laughing internally at the students pretending that a bunch of ugly wood carvings and literal stick and feather masks were “amazing works”. Everything in the African wing was dated 20th century and had a grand total of 1 thing not made from wood or cloth and it was a horribly designed ceremonial sword that looked like a rusty machete with a handle designed for a 5 year old. Meanwhile there were Roman marble sculptures from 200 BC the next gallery over, including theaters masks.
A bunch of them were probably fake. If you don't have at least a continuous indoor environment, wood and bones won't last 50 years. But there's a demand for 'artifacts' so someone is going to make them.
They were labeled 20th century, there's no reason to suspect they would have spent any meaningful amount of time in the elements, nor is there even much reason to suspect that they're fake when authentic would have been likely been cheaper anyway. Anyone trying to make a fake would like put more labor and effort into the production of such items than the natives would and the value of their labor is likely higher to begin with. Meanwhile a colonial trader could just set up a contract to receive a number of native cultural artifacts in exchange for some cheap booze or whatever.
And of course, the eeeb in me would've gone over to the Edo-era history section and marvel at the weapons crafted from that era compared to the clubs the African'ts used.
I literally don't understand the issue with most of this shit. I mean I get that some people are just bitching about muh white man bad.
But I'm willing to bet 80-90% of these artifacts IRL were found in abandoned dumps or dug up by the whites who actually gave a damn.
By all means, if white people stole into town in the middle of the night, murdered guards who were protecting the cultural icons, and stole it away, maybe it should be returned. But getting mad that I dug through your trash and found something nice is pathetic
Some black museum employee stole a bracelet from ancient Egypt and sold it. Not to a private collector who would appreciate it's historic value, no it was sold to someone who ultimately melted it down for whatever metal it was made of (can't remember if it was gold or silver). Priceless artifact, reduced to a couple thousand dollars worth of scrap.
Well they wuz kangz so they have the right to melt down historical artifacts, it's not like they were evil white men preserving them for future generations.
Because it's the same reason someone gets mad at you when they sell you something they don't realize the value of, or don't realize the value of after you work on it. They feel slighted like it had an objective value before you did something to it. it's resentment only.
Africa is this magical place that the White Man ravaged, stole from and ruined, but also they will never ever ever step foot there or even pretend to want to return to any of those cultures or traditions (even the fake ones made in America like Kwanzaa). So in order to look like they care, they need a cause to scream about while staying in their comfy little white cities.
And so, they fake giving a shit about these artifacts as if there is even a place to return them to that won't be destroyed in two weeks.
Egypt was using the Rosetta Stone as building material, and many of these countries are unstable and filled with open corruption, but sure, those artifacts in the British Museum would totally have been safer in, and would remain safe if returned to, the places they were collected from.
well if you want to be fair on the Rosetta Stone thing nobody in the past, nor most people today, really cared about history until like late 19th early 20th century and the modern museum exhibit made it entertaining. People repurposed most of what we consider historic since the first building was created.
But I do agree that it was explorers during the 19th century that are the reason so much important history has been well preserved and studied. If it was left where it was it would have been stolen or just broken and we still would struggle to understand many ancient languages
Anything is an artifact if it's old enough, doesn't matter how banal the object originally was. It's why pottery shards of long extinct cultures are valued. Those pots were nothing special, just someone's food container. Landfills will be a treasure trove to people a thousand years from now, presuming white civilization persists and history will be appreciated.
They put the same indigenous people guilting archaeologists about looting their culture. Meanwhile Indy enters a temple that hasn't been seen in 2,000 years. Clearly the people really cared for their heritage
In my local museum, the big draws are the dinosaurs, their massive collection of gemstones and precious metals, and medieval armor/swords. Two of those are culture-free, the third is European AF.
Sure, black people stealing stuff.
Hahahahaha Most realistic game of the century
It dey culcha
Artifacts like... a cow hide drum.

Don't you know that the white man stole telecommunications from African drum beats?
I actually have heard that claim before.
The first pair of Nike Air Force Supremes.
Not shown; the wheel.

And I'm sure if you were a 19th century sword sperg you'd probably be able to identify what specific pattern of sword was mangled to make that.

Even dinosaur fossils aren't really bones anymore, they're more like bone shaped rocks.
And of course, the eeeb in me would've gone over to the Edo-era history section and marvel at the weapons crafted from that era compared to the clubs the African'ts used.
Poetry.
Literally: you didn't care and considered your own history garbage, and now you want free money and think it was stolen.

They're PETA for artifacts: Better to kill it than have it be in a happy, productive, safe place.

this whole thread can be summarized as "nigger logic" tbh
Its the standard "Western Negro Complaint."

The kicker: Our artifacts: priceless gold/jewelled objects or of deep religious significance.
Relooted priceless artifacts: can be made in an hour..
Africans have artifacts?

Future archaeologists will think we worship Funko Pops with how much of the bastards get produced.
I can't wait for the society that tries to reconstruct our "ancient religion" based upon all the idols and artifacts they find of Hatsune Miku.
We believe they celebrated the harvest season with a ritual where everyone spun leeks.
NOT ANYMORE! laughs in british
WE WUZ KANGZ!
Where’s the countless articles about people destroying artifacts for the materials they have or because of religious/ethnic conflict?
And to add to the monument of laziness, it looks exactly like Fortnite lol.
Alright that's unfair, Fortnite looks better these days.
To no one’s surprise, those artifacts are safer in a British museum than anywhere in their home countries.
Modern day gaming at its finest. I’d rather play Choplifter or QBert
why, so they can melt them down for scrap?
Wow... they literally did the black-trans-lesbian-cyborg meme!
They put the same indigenous people guilting archaeologists about looting their culture. Meanwhile Indy enters a temple that hasn't been seen in 2,000 years. Clearly the people really cared for their heritage
What is it, petrified piles of dung? African art looks like a toddler did it.
Chicken bone necklace.
This is old news.
Museum: How would you like to learn anout African history? Come look at these cool things to pique your interest in the subject.
Africa: Give stick, we cantz make more, whities pay to see.
Everyone: We're not going to fucking Africa.
Museum: Come explore our new exhibit, now with 100% white artifacts.
Sounds like victory to me.

Saw a SmashJT video on this. At one point he was showing it had zero players, LMAO.
Didn't this game peak at like less than 50 users?
I remember reading somewhere when they had an open access test that they couldn't find triple digit users for their game.
At least it was an easy stress test for their server loads. Were probably able to host it on a newer mid-range smartphone.
I couldn't make a more racist game that still gets put on storefronts if I tried and they don't even see it. Love that.
Is Cam HIgby the tutorial boss?
