It was a fucking struggle for EVERYONE, we're talking about a time you could be burned as a heretic because you discovered science over saying it's all magic, plagues decimate entire societies and you could starve to death because of a bad harvest.
I also dont think your average person realizes how heavy armor and swords are. There cant be many women capable of carrying 100 lbs of metal on them everywhere they go. But thats sexist of course to say that the human species favors bigger males and smaller females for some odd reason.
I know its all divide and conquer. But I cant help but feel bitter sometimes. 99% of the people who fucked me over during my work injury were women, and they seemed to enjoy belittling me. A bit of Napoleon syndrome I guess.
I was a big boy even at a early age, and my momma used to read me stories about king arthur and she would tell me that I should use my strength for protecting others. (Some of that white supremacy the government seems to be terrified of. )
These people have never contemplated true power or what it takes to wield it, and not let it wield you. No wonder they power trip, well like little bitches.
Women do not understand power because it is always given to them for free.
It's men that have to constantly strive and obtain power with skills and sweat.
What women see it that "some men" have power "because of luck", since they cannot admit their inferiority and lazyness.
No surprise these games follow the same rethoric of expecting success with no skills and no effort, just for participating in the competition.
Midieval soldiers kit was actually much lighter than modern soldiers' kit, our body armor is very dense compared to plate and chainmail. And our 100 lb kit weight factors in the pack and all the ammo and such. A sword is lighter than a rifle and takes no ammo.
Women moving around in midieval armor is still a joke though, that stuff is cumbersome as all get out and you'd be moving in it for hours.
Halve that weight and you've got a more accurate number. And that's if you're wearing full plate or mail, not leather. The actual argument against female soldiers in a medieval world is because combat is inherently adversarial: you have to be strong enough that your opponent cannot simply overpower you. It's not the equipment, it's the guy who is bigger, stronger and faster than you.
My interest is already at "don't even care enough to pirate it". On the plus side, there'll be tons of funny videos shitting on the game and the devs and those are free. So there's that to look forward to.
That thing Geralt and Shani specifically talk about in the Heart of Stone DLC in Witcher 3? That thing the current devs clearly have zero fucking clue about because they never actually played any of the previous games otherwise they would know they're retreading old and done material? No fucking surprise there 🙄 actual fucking tourists and parasites.
I always got the sense that the name itself is a stealthy slam against their former masters. CDPR was a company that made its name with a series of games where you played as a man who was often referred to as the "White Wolf" or even just "Wolf." So when they left CDPR after putting up with so much abuse and formed their own studio, they considered it a form of rebellion against their slavedrivers, hence "rebel wolves."
I want one of these "woman's struggles" games to come out and the woman's struggles is that if you play female the game turns piss easy as you get given every resource you need.
I would just find it immensely funny, they can add a "male privilege" toggle in case people want to play properly with a female character
Oh wow! What a fresh new take! What an original idea! Whoa! What an incredibly novel concept! Wow! Finally, someone treading new ground! Gee! So different and unique! So modern! What a trailblazing, untried design! Wow! So brave!!!
Please look forward to the '10 Hours of Walking in the Continent' mission to really take in the real experience of being a wimmyn Witcher in [every] point in history.
I have 0% interest in this game and won’t be buying it.
Reading the article Q&A, it seems like it was the Eurogamer urinalist retard who brought up “muh women’s struggle”, and not CDPR guy.
CDPR guy was like, “yeah we tell a LOT of different stories and I guess you could say that’s a part of it too…”
To me that seems exactly what you’d expect a dev to say when put on the spot like that. He couldn’t exactly reply with, “nah, fuck women, who cares” (as awesome as that might be).
Don’t get me wrong, I’m NOT defending this game or its DEI award winning team, and I’m well aware of how many OG devs left and what a woke shit show the Netflix series was. I just think it’s still a long way off and we need to wait until we see more.
The left have desperately been trying to push the “anti-woke” and “grifter” labels onto us in response to the recent cultural shift, and if by some small miracle this game actually DOES end up being good and selling well, I don’t want us to be left with egg on our faces.
That sounds pretty interesting. They must have really studied medieval history extensively to understand what it was like to live as a woman in those times. Right?
I wouldn't mind a game that actually does something like this, but I'm not sure there's many writers in the west capable of this.
You know those strategic rogue-like games. The one where you create a lineage starting from a single warlord to an imperial king, and you have to actually manage your family and direct resources to build your family into a dynasty; all while placating people's ambitions and marrying off your daughters to maintain peace?
Well, why couldn't you do that as a mother figure? The mother of a medieval dynasty where you have to figure out how to socially navigate your community, marry a high value male that has high potential, but isn't already identified as high value by the rest of the community. Then help develop him, your home, and your community into a thriving little estate, with a wealthy & happy husband and then several high potential children. Then you have to help your children fill rolls in the community, increase their worth, help fund their businesses, and even send them off to war? How do you equip your sons? How do you equip your daughters? How do you manage family dynamics along with community dynamics, and a family wealth structure in a world where social mobility is already neigh on impossible due to feudalism? Can you make an kingdom out of it? Can you develop your family into lords and ladies, or will you see your children and husband killed and sent into a prison?
I think there's PLENTY of good shit here, but I don't think anyone is willing to try. This would certainly be a struggle for a medieval woman, particularly one that is working her way up the political & economic ladder with her husband.
That game would basically just be a visual novel though because it would be 100% dialogue options. Words and lies are women's weapons. A game about a woman navigating through politics and community would just be talking to everyone, choosing who to lie to, who to flatter, who to gossip about, who to backstab at the right moment with a cleverly placed rumor or insult. It wouldn't be a game, just a really complex choose your own adventure dialogue simulator.
Managing family funs, equipping sons, choosing what jobs they will go into, etc are all a husbands domain. The woman's domain, especially in the middle ages, is to do housework and obey. The game would be going down to the creek to do the wash with the other women, and then quietly telling Mildred that you saw her husband being too familiar with Maryanne last Thursday, and then going over to Maryanne and telling her that Mildred has a vendetta against her because she heard from Jane who heard from the wife of the stableman who overheard one of the Lord's chambermaids tell the innkeepers wife that Maryanne let slip that her husband was holding back too large a portion of grain when the tax collector comes by. And the just watch the sparks fly, hope they destroy each other, and then rise up in social standing.
You could technically gamify that. But it would be 100% just talking to people and the only way to win would be being the slimiest, most duplicitous backstabbing shrew you can be. I don't personally think I would enjoy playing that game myself.
It wouldn't be a game, just a really complex choose your own adventure dialogue simulator.
That's a game. Also, I don't think it would be just be dialogue, there would probably be resource management involved in that as well, so it would be a bit more spreadsheet-y
Managing family funs, equipping sons, choosing what jobs they will go into, etc are all a husbands domain. The woman's domain, especially in the middle ages, is to do housework and obey.
That's not really true, either. You're thinking of an islamic state. Husbands and Fathers got final say, normally, but mothers and wives still managed families and estates.
I already wasn't buying it. Now it looks like I have to actively campaign against it. They have turned me into an anti-customer. Not just a 0, but at least a -1.
She won't be a woman though. She'll be a masculine girlboss inconvenienced by all those icky stupid inferior bigoted men.
How will the "struggle" of someone as powerful as Ciri (whether she keeps her powers from previous games or not) in any way resemble the struggle of medieval women? Unless they use side characters for that.
Looks like the "stop having fun, guys. Recess is over, back to class so we can lecture you how all evil is your fault" Karens have taken over that studio
No. She already had OP magic bullshit without the need to undergo Witcher mutations, the process of which is usually lethal in the most ideal conditions, would render her infertile, and would turn her into a social pariah. If anything, becoming a Witcher is a complete downgrade for Ciri, and any attempt for the writers to justify it is hammering a triangular peg into a rectangular hole.
They are in my stack to read but I bought the books for the author’s vision since Netflix doesn’t care about that and while I know this game isn’t out it, they are saying all the right things to make me not interested as well as showing me they don’t care about source material
It was a fucking struggle for EVERYONE, we're talking about a time you could be burned as a heretic because you discovered science over saying it's all magic, plagues decimate entire societies and you could starve to death because of a bad harvest.
But no, 'women most affected' mindset steps in..
Ironically the plague in the Witcher games is Ciri's fault after she travelled to Earth in the dark ages and brought it back with her.
Plague kills untold thousands/millions, Ciri most affected.
Plot Twist: The game is actually about a shareholders struggle in a bankrupt world.
#GetWokeGoBroke 🤣

The Witcher 3 devs even for the DLC left LONG ago. This is the new 'diverse' team that have fuck all writing experience beyond Tweets.
Yeah, those guys are all over at something Wolf Studios. Frost Wolf? Lone Wolf? Can't remember, but something-Wolf now, not CDPR.
Rebel Wolves.
Sounds pretentious enough for modern slacktivists.
"We're rebelling against the system!"
"The system that previously made lots of money and is the sole reason your job even exists?"
"REEEEEE, we're doing our own thing!"
"Wolves are pack animals, you dumbass. A wolf that goes off alone dies."

Ah right! That sounds right.
Just what everyone was desperately clamoring for!

I would just find it immensely funny, they can add a "male privilege" toggle in case people want to play properly with a female character
In the original £1996 Resident Evil there were 2 difficulties. Hard/Chris, and easy/Jill.
All the quests are disabled except the "bring granny a loaf of bread" little side quests.
There was no fucking struggle. They were happy being women
They also knew what is a woman
Oh wow! What a fresh new take! What an original idea! Whoa! What an incredibly novel concept! Wow! Finally, someone treading new ground! Gee! So different and unique! So modern! What a trailblazing, untried design! Wow! So brave!!!
It was already at "almost certainly not interested" and this pushes it full on into "I will never play it even if it's free" territory for me.
Kingdom Come Deliverance did that with A Woman's Lot DLC, with a female character without magical protagonist powers. You survive by avoiding combat.
Please look forward to the '10 Hours of Walking in the Continent' mission to really take in the real experience of being a wimmyn Witcher in [every] point in history.
How do you write about medieval women's struggles using a magical character with a job that never existed?
But when they add blacks to places they have no business, they’ll say “It’S jUsT fAnTaSy!”
This is why I support trans-rights. It's so that I can identify as non-buy-nary.

Stick a fork in CDPR.
My god this game is gonna suck
I wouldn't mind a game that actually does something like this, but I'm not sure there's many writers in the west capable of this.

I've played those Skyrim mods already.
People just want to do flippy spinny shit, use powers and kill monsters. Give us a good story and a bunch if side quests.
It's a license to print money ffs.
Looks like the "stop having fun, guys. Recess is over, back to class so we can lecture you how all evil is your fault" Karens have taken over that studio
KCD already did it
They must’ve received their first shipment of Turkish Delight,
... Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't she a Witcher? Doesn't that mean she gets some pretty OP magic bullshit?
Witchers are low tier compared to her heritage.
She has the Elder Blood, the lady of space and time. Way more op that just a Witcher.
Wew, I guess I shouldn't be surprised lmao
I guess for comparison, just of power levels:
Geralt a Witcher would be like Captain America - Regular human with enhanced powers given by a potion.
Elder Blood Ciri would be Captain Marvel.
No. She already had OP magic bullshit without the need to undergo Witcher mutations, the process of which is usually lethal in the most ideal conditions, would render her infertile, and would turn her into a social pariah. I guess they can struggle with unemployment when the sales targets are missed by a large margin.
