I always got the sense that the name itself is a stealthy slam against their former masters. CDPR was a company that made its name with a series of games where you played as a man who was often referred to as the "White Wolf" or even just "Wolf." So when they left CDPR after putting up with so much abuse and formed their own studio, they considered it a form of rebellion against their slavedrivers, hence "rebel wolves."
Yeah, those guys are all over at something Wolf Studios. Frost Wolf? Lone Wolf? Can't remember, but something-Wolf now, not CDPR.
Rebel Wolves.
Sounds pretentious enough for modern slacktivists.
"We're rebelling against the system!"
"The system that previously made lots of money and is the sole reason your job even exists?"
"REEEEEE, we're doing our own thing!"
"Wolves are pack animals, you dumbass. A wolf that goes off alone dies."

Ah right! That sounds right.
