What about a game where one nigger tries to mug you, but you shoot the fucker in the leg, drag it to the docks, tie it to one of the steel beams that goes underwater at high tide while frustratedly explaining the failure of modern welfare systems?

Game scores are subjective and don't mean anything.

▲ 1 ▼
– Indipendepede 1 point 1 year ago +1 / -0

Scores from journalists don't mean anything. Scores on a personal scale are accurate measures of their enjoyment of a product. Subjective doesn't mean useless, only biased to an individual's preference.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– dzonatan 1 point 1 year ago +1 / -0

Individual preference is just as biased as that of journalists. In both cases, you're relying on someone's impression that is not your own.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– Indipendepede 1 point 1 year ago +1 / -0

Subjective doesn't mean useless

Journos reviews/scores are unreliable because of financial or political incentive & game journos nowadays don't even like games.

As long as you are aware of a bias- especially if it aligns with yours- you will still be better informed than going in blind. If a friend or trusted reviewer says they like/dislike a game, a scale is useful for quantifying how much.

It doesn't need to be a perfect system to be useful.

Chinese nationalists and Gamergaters likely got together to push out massive sales of a ultimately mediocre game

It's hard to fathom how we attained such power.

The whole reason the world is controlled by secrets rather than just force is because anyone could reasonably challenge it if they actually understood how it worked. Gamers, because of life-long exposure to their brainwashing machines, became radically better at solving such low-information problems as a side effect.

Possibly hot take, soulslike games got old a long time ago. This one at least feels better to play (combat is more fluid, and not clunky), but on the back end, it's just the same miserable experience for me. It's why I didn't spend a ton of time on them in the first place.

permalink save report block reply
▲ 9 ▼
– Vicious_snek6 9 points 1 year ago +9 / -0

Yeah the souls game's movement felt incredibly clunky to me too, not at all an enjoyable smooth experience. I like me some difficulty, but fast bullet hells are far more enjoyable than wading through molasses.

▲ 7 ▼
– undecidedmask2 7 points 1 year ago +7 / -0

I find the souls-light games more fun. That style of combat with interesting bosses and set save points I think are great for exploration/combat games, but the intense difficulty of actual soulslike games is just not enjoyable. That style in an easier package is way more enjoyable.

I hate to be That Guy, but (unless I'm missing the point and you're actually talking about routes, which is possible), I think you mean "rote memorization."

And, for the record, the only reason I'm even bothering to correct you is...I admit, I figured it was "wrote." It's not "root," it's not "route." But I didn't realize it was "rote." Whoops.

A memorizing process using routine or repetition, often without full attention or comprehension.

Even Fromsoft agrees with you. Its why every other game radically changes the formula, such as Bloodborne and Sekiro. Likely why they also hard ended the series with Ringed City.

But, they are a money printer for Bandai Namco, so they are likely forced to keep producing something in the category to keep the Publisher off their back.

Shannon

Is that a tranny, an unfortunately named man*, or an unfortunate looking woman?

Asking the important questions, I know.

To get back to the point, I love how they still can't help but blame us for everything.

It's also just wrong. While some of us do jump on trends, and do an impulse buy here and there, I'd say we are, in aggregate, much more careful about buying games, even if there's some political win for the game doing well.

I know I haven't seen a lot of praise here for Black Myth: Wukong, outside of praising it for pissing people off. I know there wasn't a lot of praise for things like the Kyle Rittenhouse game, or the Alex Jones game, or other meme games that are on Our Side. Or Hogwarts Legacy. We might have our opinions, and be "biased" (like everyone else), but we'll often call a spade a spade.

Even if Big Bad GamerGate was massive and organized, we still wouldn't be the ones driving sales numbers for Black Myth.

* Yes, I know Shannon can be a man's name sometimes. Still unfortunate.

I reserve my pity for their victims. Or the society they hunger to destroy.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 9 ▼
– Kienan 9 points 1 year ago +9 / -0

That's the annoying part; some of the perpetrators are also victims. A lot of trannies are just vulnerable autists or young people, who were preyed on. A lot of the most political and obnoxious and vile gays were molested as kids.

I can condemn what they do, while also wishing their lives hadn't led them to that point.

Anyone who turns themselves into a tranny is a victim; either of themselves, or outside brainwashing.

Asking the important questions, I know.

You jest, but these actually are important questions.

I remember learning about yellow journalism back in middle school and part of that lesson emphasized the importance of knowing who was writing an article and for what audience the article was intended and how those were important details when evaluating its worth as a source of information.

As the years progress I think back on those history classes and just how important that lesson ended up being.

In practice it just means the hundreds of millions of CCP zerglings who populate the internet, though ironically, like with the whole “semitic antisemitism” thing we see happening in gaza, one could equally describe the Taiwanese as “Chinese Nationalists” right?

But it’s those people who DDoS’d blizzard over Blitzchung and a million other of these “Chinese Justice Warrior” events. I remember when that Genshin Impact game came out I’d see stories leaking out about this or that decision by the devs which had sent 6 gorillion “Chinese nationalists” into overdrive, but it’s happening constantly and all over the place, so often that we end up just forgetting or ignoring a lot of it (another winning tactic for China, the death by 1,000 cuts)

They can't just call them the Chinese period, as that sounds racist, so they use a vaguely close enough word to describe the phenomenon of the Chinese basically buying anything made in China.

They can't acknowledge the collectivism and hivemind actions of the Chinese openly, even though we all know it, so they attempt to shove it into a Western Culture War box.

I'm going to go through this whole things because it's really, really, really stupid. That can also serve as the TL;DR if you don't feel like wading through my ramblings, or the authors: Really, really, really stupid article.

In Black Myth: Wukong, after I crushed a nasty snake boss, the game’s heroic monkey protagonist triumphantly marched through the temple gates only to find... another boss. I wearily trounced this bear boss too, but what I really wanted was new characters to chat with or a nice spot to lay my head. Perhaps in the game’s next chapter? No shot. I walked forward, only to enter another area full of aggressive beasts and visually appealing swathes of barren wasteland.

Massive faggot detected. Opinion immediately disregarded...not that it wasn't already pre-disregarded due to the GG attack.

Seriously though. Complaining about fighting bosses and the game looking nice...while later saying the game has good boss fights.

This retard is so stupid I might have to defend Black Myth, which holds no interest for me personally. It's that stupid.

Judged by its own merit (cultural and political context aside), Black Myth isn’t a particularly inventive game, even if the boss fights are very fun.

Not everything has to be inventive. If it's a game with lots of boss fights, and the boss fights are fun...sounds like a fun game, if you're the type of person who likes fighting bosses? Success? You made a fun game that appeals to certain audiences, nice!

Also, what cultural and political context?! Cultural, marginally...it's Chinese. Big whoop. What are the politics?

The environments feel stale and small when you realize most doors stay glued shut and most walls aren’t climbable. When I ran through the outer limits of each biome, I found a **deserted terrain with nothing to do. **

Uh...not every game needs climbable walls, holy shit. Some games wouldn't work at all if walls were climbable, in fact. What a silly complaint. Also, if you go to places where there aren't things to do, there aren't things to do.

In between big bosses, the game doesn’t offer you any chance to reflect, rest, or enjoy the scenery.

Just. Shut. Up. Go play a walking simulator, journo.

I haven’t come across any side content in the 12 hours I’ve explored the game.

Again, not every game needs every feature. What is this creature expecting?

No climbable walls?! No side content?! Lots of boss fights?! I just need to know how much water is in the game...is it the right amount? Too much? Not enough?

And some self-proclaimed Gamergaters even suspect it’s part Chinese nationalism and part hype driven by the side of the internet that hates diversity and inclusion. This unholy combination...

Wait, even their own piece does seem to tie GG to it directly. Some GGers suspect something. Ahahaha.

The reality is that IGN’s [sexism attack] report likely did not dissuade Chinese gamers from supporting Black Myth very much, as it described an internet culture many are familiar and comfortable with. In fact, the controversy may have boosted sales by raising awareness of the game.

Why should IGN be trying to hurt a game's sales?

Once upon a time, coming forward with cultural complaints about a piece of media might have facilitated healthy discussions and smarter consumption a few years ago, but in today’s climate, it’s more likely to trigger angry factions online and fuel sales of an otherwise ordinary product.

Terrible grammar. Also, you and your ilk did this. You tried to bully and have your way, you made modern games so much worse than they should be, and you attack anyone you perceive as disagreeing with your warped world view. Of course people are going to push back on that. I wish more did. You deserve it. And we deserve better video games, and either less game journos, or more competent and passionate (about games, not Social Justice™) game journos. As is, we're not listening to you anymore, other than to mock you relentlessly. Because you suck monumentally, and are cultural rot incarnate.

It’s possible a similar phenomenon happened to PlayStation’s Stellar Blade, where a series of articles about the misogyny and objectification contained in the game ultimately worked to drive engagement.

Or people liked the idea of a game that seemed to not bow to you. Because, again, "real" gamers fucking despise you, and are tired of you.

At the same time, Chinese gamers have really needed a win.

What, were there no video game world championships going on at the time?

Considering how China banned consoles for 15 years, the country doesn’t have the most robust game development scene. In a regulatory environment that’s been harsh on gaming addiction and ruthless with approving new titles...

Friendly reminder: Communism, not even fucking once.

In many ways, Black Myth feels like a love letter back to Chinese culture and history.

Aaaaaaand?! Are Chinese now Honorary Whites too, or something? Or are you just so wrapped up in perceived sexism controversies and lack of diversity that you just need to hate and blame someone?

But without the rabid fanbase of Chinese nationalists and Gamergaters at the ready, I’m not sure anybody would be talking about Black Myth: Wukong in 2024.

You would, you absolute smoothbrain. You fucking would. And you are.

You also still haven't provided any evidence about GG being involved in any way. Citation needed, as they say.

We’ve been fed to the gills with great games that challenge our expectations, make us fall in love with the characters, and obsessively draw fan art or write odes to the narrative.

Alright, I'm starting to think this creature might actually, literally, be an autistic tranny, fully captured by the woke cult. This last bit almost makes me pity them. Without the internet, this might actually be a functioning human being. I think he/she/it got captured, and it all went downhill from there. Because that is obsessive and insane, even compared to the rest of the article. Poor dude. I still despise what these people do, of course, but I also wish they'd get some help and stop being such sad weirdos.

A retelling of a 432-year-old tale with pretty trees and Ragnarok-style combat doesn’t entirely hit the spot.

Okay. Strong ending. Great article. Compelling and rich.

This would have been a Muh Russian Bots/Shills story 5 years ago. I never hear Muh Russia anymore despite the entire establishment seething over one of their corruption-outlet tentacle nations being at war with them. It gives me an impression of the degree by which the general public BTFO'd certain incredibly expensive propaganda campaigns in the 2016 period (although I think this warrants noting that the same groups of people failed to reject other less expensive campaigns from the same period, such as a prominent hate campaign where users of many large social media websites and groups weren't allowed to be racist/sexist/homophobic, putting a stopper on all expressions of hatred that weren't directed at the target group- muslims and islam at the time. It turns the target group into a pressure release valve for other social frustrations. It is a tactic/prediction that Orwell covers with brevity in the first chapter or two of 1984).

Hiccups and vulnerabilities aside, the amount of cushioning on public awareness that TPTB have burned away in these last ten years is wild. Everyone seems to be aware of shit on a higher level now. It wasn't like that even just 15 years ago. Things that propagandists and politicians used to flat out deny are pieces of common knowledge that serve as devices in a debate today. The debate boils down to "who is targeted/who should be targeted" and it is a foreboding echo of history; somebody really is the target, somebody really does lose, and the result is violence on a scale that will mindbreak generations and lay seeds that ensure the cycle goes on forever. Everybody is trying to wrestle control of at least some aspect of the apparatus of our destruction in order to point it at someone else and it will go on forever. The last people standing will point the apparatus at themselves in a hereditary state of madness and fire it.
