And the other bad part being just how much time trannies have to waste on social media. I guess it's easy enough for people to just not engage with them in general though.
Just uh "de emphasize" them lol. I will say this: Mr Musk ain't going to get one past me. I have not finished judging yet. But words will not sway me. Actions will.
That's absolutely gigabased, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a tsunami of twatter user suicides. I'm almost tempted to get an account just so I can help with that. Almost.
Doesn't Twitter also have the mute function, which acts the same as a block regarding you the user not seeing the response(s) but doesn't prevent the other user from interacting?
Personally, I kind of hope there remains a mute feature. I'm fine with individuals having the tools for their own side of things, but I HATE this rather modern idea of taking the other person's ability away to interact.
That’s not what the block feature on twitter does, it blocks the other user from ever replying to them on the public feed. That’s why lefties love it, they swoop in say something easily disproven, then block the person they replied to so no discussion can be had by the person they replied to.
Mute is still a function, all this would do is eliminate the spam leftists who swoop in, say dumb shit, then block who they replied to so they can’t make a rebuttal.
Being able to click a button to deny specific communists/OF girls/DeSantoids/retards in general any access at all to your posts is an absolutely vital feature on any site.
Its probably the best option we had available. Twitter was already a cancer rot being used for active evil.
Now it'll still have that power, but its under a guy they hate so they won't be as gungho about it and many will not get the memo and still try to undermine him. So its a less stable equation for them.
Much like with Facebook trying to call itself 'meta', everybody still calls it Facebook.
And yet Facebook hasn't burned down, so there you go. I don't even think it's possible for Elon to kill Twitter because the free discussion is what actually attracted people, not the censorship. Everything I hear about Threads says it's a boring Good Place esque wasteland.
Is there ever a reason to block vs mute someone? Give your reasons.
Does anyone disagree with me that this is retarded? You might make a case against shared block lists, or for politicians but I don't see the reason why regular people shouldn't be allowed to block whoever they want.
Shared blocklists are great and it would have been really smart of guys on our side to put together lists of leftists and overlap them the same way they were putting together lists of our accounts 10 years ago.
shared block lists should replace moderators. You should subscribe to the moderation that fits what you want to see. The problem is trying to force everyone together into some shared generic consensus that will never happen.
I don't have a problem with this change after people explained the difference between Block and Mute. (sorry I don't live on social media) What I don't understand is Elon's tactics here, with this and every other twitterxvideos change where he has to make a big announcement personally on his own account. Does he do it to bring media attention? ("all news is good news") Why not just change the buttons and add a link to a page explaining the update and how to use Mute. Why the fanfare? He's not even supposed to be CEO now.
Why? I'm not trying to be inflammatory but there's no flowery way to ask if this is due to some ego thing where you need to make sure you're being listened to and heard by some fuckwit.
If you have something to say, say it. Needing to know if the recipient heard it is silly, especially in online public forums where 99.99% of online discourse isn't a discussion at all and is instead a performance for onlookers. Who cares if they don't hear it and don't respond?
If you mute somebody and they know it then they'll trash you even more knowing that you'll never correct their lies, so it actually encourages worse behavior.
I think you're mistaking muting and blocking. Blocking is what prevents other users from interacting with them. Muting simply stops whoever is muting from seeing it, not everyone else.
So for example, if this were Twitter and you were to respond to me whilst I have you muted, I wouldn't see that response, but others would. If however I had blocked you, you would never even get the opportunity to respond in the first place. For a public space, mute is fine, and eliminates their ability to curate their responses.
Yeah, never understood the point of blocking people. As long as you can mute them, that's fine. But far too many people used the Block function as a way to get the last word.
Hasn't he claimed that downranking will be visible on the account? So you'll be able to see the "reach" of your messages and know if you've been shadowbanned. It's supposed to be less behind the scenes than how they used to run it.
Whenever I see an obnoxious twitter ad I do a "block user" so I don't have to see any more for that user.
I imagine this makes Elon and the WEF minion he put in charge very sad. Since tweetdeck went paid users only I've stopped even dipping my toes in twatter, though.
Blocking was what dissuaded me from Twitter back in 09’, for Twitter's technophobe pandering implementation. If I can logout and view the blocker's tweets, it's a big fat phony feature. Feelings over facts.
Reddit followed similarly a few years ago where a rando can hijack entire posts by blocking dissent.
I would suggest a change to the way "block" works. I think if I don't want to have to see someone else's messages, I should be able to do that. However, if I block someone, they should still be able to see everything I write in the public sphere and still comment on it if they want such that others can see it. Also, if someone blocks you, you should be made aware you have been blocked by that person.
It seems like the mute feature is still there, so people will still have control over their own feeds and what they personally see, but they will no longer get to curate who can and cannot interact with their content.
This seems like a far better thing than it seems, presuming it doesn't get fucked up somehow.
"Influencers" use block to curate their replies creating the false impression of a consensus
Imo this is good because then people pushing an agenda can't easily block countersignal
The bad part is tranny spam will be more effective at derailing discussions
And the other bad part being just how much time trannies have to waste on social media. I guess it's easy enough for people to just not engage with them in general though.
Just uh "de emphasize" them lol. I will say this: Mr Musk ain't going to get one past me. I have not finished judging yet. But words will not sway me. Actions will.
We've had 10 years now showing this doesn't work.
Right, in a system of who can be the loudest, most persistent, or biggest trolls, these 2 groups win vs normal people:
block and mute are functionally the same from your perspective, except one prevents the target from interacting with other people who see your tweets
is there a purpose to block vs mute other than to curate your comments?
Where in this post did you respond to anything I said?
This is a common issue with all social systems, that neither 100% open or 100% closed works.
That's absolutely gigabased, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a tsunami of twatter user suicides. I'm almost tempted to get an account just so I can help with that. Almost.
So if I'm to guess what this means is that you can only block private messages sent to you, anything else that's public you can't block.
That actually sounds fine. Just learn self control and stop viewing people you don't like, the private part is important as that's harassment.
Doesn't Twitter also have the mute function, which acts the same as a block regarding you the user not seeing the response(s) but doesn't prevent the other user from interacting?
Personally, I kind of hope there remains a mute feature. I'm fine with individuals having the tools for their own side of things, but I HATE this rather modern idea of taking the other person's ability away to interact.
yes. people are abusing block when they should be muting so block is going away, and you can only mute now.
Twitter has a weird implementation of block because they come from a private messaging/advertising perspective. Not a discussion one.
If they mean to be the town square, it never should have been implemented this way
Yup.
I suppose it does have some cap. When I'm logged in, I've never hit it.
By say...blocking them?
That’s not what the block feature on twitter does, it blocks the other user from ever replying to them on the public feed. That’s why lefties love it, they swoop in say something easily disproven, then block the person they replied to so no discussion can be had by the person they replied to.

Thats what the private button is for
Stupid as shit.
He’s been pretty clear on what his end goal is which is a us version of wechat
Its probably the best option we had available. Twitter was already a cancer rot being used for active evil.

idk why he thinks a chinese total control app is something to emulate or aspire towards.
Because he imagines he will be the one in control. On Earth and Mars.
And yet Facebook hasn't burned down, so there you go. I don't even think it's possible for Elon to kill Twitter because the free discussion is what actually attracted people, not the censorship. Everything I hear about Threads says it's a boring Good Place esque wasteland.
Good. Don't need block on Twitter when mute is there.
You don't get removed from someone's "EVIL NAZI KKK RACIST TRANSPHOBE" list by muting them.
You should be actively getting on as many of those lists as possible, not being a pussy
This is in reply to this tweet: https://twitter.com/teslaownersSV/status/1692547463121690791

National Divorce, but for keeping communists away from you on the internet.

Elon tweeting the info is the clearest and most direct way to make it public. Also he gets to soften up the userbase before deploying the change.
UX release notes are tidy and all but people have problems reading them too.
Mute is far worse and even more retarded an idea
How is mute worse? Seems like a great idea to me for when you don't care if someone reads your tweets but don't want to see theirs.
At least I should know if I am muted
Why? I'm not trying to be inflammatory but there's no flowery way to ask if this is due to some ego thing where you need to make sure you're being listened to and heard by some fuckwit.

Don't worry, the people who use Twitter are absolutely the kind to tell you they muted you.
Fragile People mute thousands of people and so their comment section becomes an echo chamber where people say what they want.
(Nasseem Taleeb)
Anybody new to twitter will not know they have muted thousands and their comment section is completely curated/false

Yeah Mute is an abomination.
Glorious. No more regressive leftists hiding from counter opinions.
Yeah, never understood the point of blocking people. As long as you can mute them, that's fine. But far too many people used the Block function as a way to get the last word.
It's the type of feature that was dreamed up by Lefties specifically for this purpose.
That's how it works in real life, you can tell someone off once, but you generally won't talk to them again after that.
Well that sucks.
Long ago I implemented a block "package" that erased thousand of leftie shit disturbers from my timeline, making twitter a usable experience.
Twitter's gonna be a full-on war. Should be fun to watch at least!
You can still mute those accounts.
Once this drops it will be open season on the troons. This is going to be glorious.
something good for once
Public square checks out.
Do something against fed censorship of the upcomming elections instead.
I choose to believe he is doing this to shit on Jonathan Greenblatt and the ADL.
"We turned this 70s house into a modern open-concept house by removing load-bearing walls!"
Hasn't he claimed that downranking will be visible on the account? So you'll be able to see the "reach" of your messages and know if you've been shadowbanned. It's supposed to be less behind the scenes than how they used to run it.

i mute+block pronoun faggots going back to my using tweetdeck where just doing one or the other wasn't a guarantee they'd stay gone

I assume you can still say not interested
