If so which ones? I remember watching my brothers play Police Quest 2, Space Quest 3, and Robin Hood. I’ve played the later police quest games and Space Quest along with some Kings Quest games. As a kid I always wanted to play Leisure Suit Larry since Babbages always had a warning label on it.
I’ll check out Steam and download a bunch in bulk. I was looking for a list and came across a “best of” list from PC Gamer and true to form they couldn’t shut up about politics. When discussing police quest they had to go off on a tangent about Floyd and policing being “racist”.
Also may try Willy Beamish again. Bothers me that I never beat it
Are we talking developed by or just published by Sierra?
The https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gobliiins series was pretty fun back in the day. It's a goofy point and click adventure with some cooperation between multiple characters.
I guess either or. I’ll have to look into that
Check out the Hero's Quest/Quest for Glory series. An entertaining action/RPG take on the Sierra formula.
I never got into the other x-Quest series as much. Played one of the Space Quest games -- 3 I believe -- and it was entertaining enough. Played through Phantasmagoria once but remember nothing of it.
Quest for Glory 1-4 may, to this day, be my favorite video games.
One I always wanted to try. Will check it out
Theres a fairly modern remake of Quest For Glory 2 as well, with improvements. Fighting is most fun in this one, well worth playing.

I played King's Quest 1, and 4 (I don't remember why not 2 and 3). Police Quest (didn't finish) and the first Larry game until I realized the whole thing was trolling my hormonal kid self.
No Idea why I didn't play Space Quest, that would have been right up my alley. I think once the original Civ got on my ancient 386, that's all that PC did from then on. Or.. It mighta been Masters of Magic > Civ. In any case. That became a rickety ass Civ box that had like 5 different kids all swarmed around it watching each other play entire campaigns. Re-naming the cities, etc.
I want to try some of the early Civ games. There was a Kings Quest that came out in the last few years. My dad, sister, and myself played 1-5 together.
Civ 2 is a pain to get running on modern PCs but the gameplay is still dope. I think it's the last one you can play as Hitler in too.
Civ I was amazing as was Masters of Magic.
Make sure to get the windows version and not the Dos version, though. Significant graphics improvement.
Lord of the Realm II.
Total War’s grandpappy.
LORDS OF THE REALM 2 WAS THE BEST GAME EVER. I STILL DREAM ABOUT THE NICE LITTLE MUSKC AND MAP WITH OXEN CART
That game was so underrated! I remember my buddies dismissed the game for other rts of the time while I spent many lunches trying to explain to them the game was worth trying out.
what other game let you have boiling oil for castle defense? That's right up there with those greased up pigs you can light on fire in Rome: Total War.
I wonder if I can play it still
Found it
https://playclassic.games/games/turn-based-strategy-dos-games-online/play-lords-realm-ii-online/play/
Found one that plays on mobile
https://bestdosgames.com/games/lords-of-the-realm-2/play
The overworld music while building and maintaining your realms was so fantastic. It really helped set the mood. I still occasionally listen to some of the soundtrack from Lord of the Realm II. It was one of the few 4x strategy games that felt really comprehensive at every level.
My dad had Leisure Suit Larry on his Atari St. Later he got Space Quest III and Monkey Island and we would work on solving those together. I remember a computer class in school that was just mavis beacon teaches typing and once you passed sufficiently he just made everyone play laura bow and quest for the grail.
We bought the Kings Quest 4 and Space Quest 3 hint book to finish it since the Internet didn't exist. Never finished KQ oddly enough.
Space Quesr collection is on Steam and keys are usually dirt cheap, check gg.deals
Read that as Space Queer and got super confused.
Wouldnt be surprised if that actually was a game though lol

So, I have always had a soft spot for Gold Rush! (with the exclamation mark). You play a Brooklynite who must travel to California to strike gold. There are three ways to make the trip: overland (by covered wagon), by sea (around South America) and by sea to Panama (where you must walk through the jungle to the other side). Once you get there, the different branches converge again, as you must find gold and complete other quests (no spoilers :)). It has a very charming Old West vibe, and plenty of retro adventure game jank. Save frequently and enjoy this relatively unknown gem of the genre.
Thanks!
Wasn't Tribes a Sierra game ?
used to play that with my dad and his guys. dunno how much of it was "let the boss's kid have fun" though.
It was. It was part of the Starsiege series I think. Came out just after Half-Life.
If you have VR I cannot recommend Jet Island enough.
I think so
Babbages!
?
Babbages was a very early PC shop that sold everything from printers to parts to office software to games, and there weren't tons of games back then so you could spend hours in there reading the giant boxes they came in with posters and books and stacks of floppy disks banded together, looking at screenshots, and asking the staff if they were any good. There was maybe one or two magazines on pc gaming at the time, and there was a sense of wonder and suspense buying something, getting it running, and finding out the hard way if it was a sleeper hit or dog shit. It was great.
Absolutely. My dad and I used to play the Space Quest games (not the ones with the text prompts, but the point and click ones). A few of the later King's Quest games. Police Quest a bit as well.
Best line from Space Quest 6 when you click something that does nothing: don't touch that, we don't know where you've been!
I loved their sense of humor. Or when you put your tongue on the ship it says “tastes like ship”
I still have Caesar 3 installed and working. Lords of Magic too.
Have those on Steam as well.
I need to check those out. I was so focused on the quest games that I missed their other stuff
Lords of Magic is an underrated gem of a game. My sister and I lost countless hours exploring Urak.
My brother and I played it a tremendous amount, though my brother only ever played life or water to exploit the scepter glitch. That glitch was apparently fixed in the steam version.
I was always an Earth man myself. Dwarves are damn near impossible to actually kill and that war axe was top notch when it came to decimating entire armies.
but the move speed.... awful
Kinda funny, modern games are terrified of asymmetric gameplay.
It's the inevitable treading of an unstoppable force. It's so satisfying once it finally reaches your foe.
I agree, modern game design philosophy is so timid. Everyone has to be a winner, everything has to be perfectly balanced. You can't have anything big and splashy that wasn't intended; No emergent strategies or power plays. It's all so...sanitized. Kind of reminds me of this video where Sajam distills the principle down to "your gameplay doesn't have to be pretty enough for Instagram, sometimes it's ok to post it on World Star."
Many many hours were sunk into The Incredible Machine / The Even More Incredible Machine.
Thanks!
Just looked at their list of released games. They were surprisingly prolific. Didn't know they were the ones who made the Half Life games, and a lot of the Spyro ones, too. Never played any of those myself, though.
Sierra was just the publisher for Half-Life games before the sequel.
Oh? I mean, it's no skin off of my back, so I don't mind taking your word for it, but my impression while going through this list was that Sierra was the division from Valve that developed both games, plus a few spin-off besides.
I recently saw the Half Life game. Didn’t know either. Too bad they are no more
Officially, Sierra is a subsidiary of Activizzard now.
Oh so they are still around. I thought they were gone for good
The realm was a super fun mmo
Holy snaps, that was the very first MMO I tried playing.
It came on a demo disc and I always had trouble getting it to work. The installation usually had problems and there were always connection issues.
I could never remember the name of that game, but thanks for reminding me!
What was it about?
Its apparently STILL GOING holy crap. Go check it out just search "the realm mmo"
Looks pretty fun. Surprised it’s still going on
Cool!
Civil War Generals 2
Straight forward, but one of the most customizable civil war games ever. As a history nerd, you kinda gotta love it.
There are three alternate history Battles of Washington DC that you can play. One after Antietam before the Union has finished their defensive works and Lee decides to make a gamble with his tired forces. Another one after the Battle of Gettysburg where most of the defenses are finished, but Meade is rushing troops after having been outflanked with Longstreet leading a charge. And the last one takes place in 1864 after the Confederates decide to make a desperate gamble and not use Jubal Early's force as a feign, but a real last-ditch effort to turn the tide of the war by charging past Fort Stevens and taking on the most fortified city on Earth at that time.
Ultimate Generals: Civil War and Gettyburg take a huge number of lessons from it because it was so well done.
Frogger, Earth Siege, (You don't know Jack was apparently popular but never played it), Caesar 2 + 3, Lords of the realm, Lords of Magic (I actually loved this one), Diablo Hellfire expansion was boss, Starsiege Tribes (mainly a multiplayer), Homeworld, Pharaoh, and a bunch more.
My top picks would be Pharaoh, Caesar 3, Homeworld (get the remastered), and Lords of Magic. You can also do Diablo + Beelzebub mod. And you can get widescreen/high res mods from widescreengaming forum for pharaoh/caesar.
Caesar games were great. Maybe ill have to start retro gaming
First Sierra game I played was The Colonel's Bequest on 5 1/2 floppy disks.... I think they were on eight disks total? Took forever to install, but it was pretty cool that the game had real-time events. Depending on what you did changed some of the outcomes. Pretty innovative for the time, and even compared to many of today's games.
Played through most of the King's Quest games, some of the Police Quest games, a few of the Quest for Glory games, and all of the Roger Wilco titles.
Earthsiege 1 & 2 were pretty cool, too, and was one of the first mech games I actually completed from start to finish. It had a surprising amount of versatility with the gameplay, being able to fly ships and pilot mechs.
Lords of the Realm was one of my absolute favourites though, along with Hunter Hunted. The OST to Hunter Hunted is still one of the best soundtracks in gaming.
I still have lots of the floppy disks. I wonder if the original disks are worth anything
Flesh may cross the portal and seek its master, Death.
Flesh may go where death has trod, and challenge like Scheherazade,
He who reigns beneath the sod, to spare a mortal's breath
From King's Quest VII: Heir today, gone tomorrow. I've had this in my head for decades.
Looked them up on Wiki and didn't know they were behind Oil's Well, that was a fun game. Hoyle 1 doesn't have a lot of card games but you can play as Roger Wilco, Leisure Suit Larry, King Graham, Princess Rosell and Sonny from Police Quest. If you sit there they'll start having fun convos with each other.
I've played them all, back when they came in boxes and you either had to trying everything, read magazines for people asking the question you had and someone replying or phone an expensive 'helpline' to get past your problem.
LOVED IT!
The Larry games just got pulled for purchase from Steam though, so if you want your LSL itch scratched I'd check out the grey area sellers like Eneba for your fix (About 10 dollars there for all the oldies just now).
It might be possible that Fanatical or someone gets another deal where you can grab them all for a dollar or two but, right now, on Steam they are gone.
Besides that Police Quest, Space Quest and King's Quest (And there's a new 5 of them!) are all on Steam should you want them.
Good luck!
You know why the LSL games aren’t there?
There is a thread, on Steam, discussing the official announcement to remove it, but it's all speculation from a wide range of people with different ideas - nothing official.
Larry will live on, not just in the newer games, in spirit and easter eggs and in humour.
But yes, end of an era on that one (Sadly).
Perhaps they'll remake it with a new lead, something called "Ken sent me" and have all the things in LSL but with rainbow unicorn furries making up how you accumulate points. You know, for the tasteful modern audience ;)
Yea I’m sure feminists would love to get their hands on that game
They've only been waiting 8 years for Get Tingled with all the brightest and best in it and so what's another 8 years to them?
Because they are basically porn lol
Space Quest, Phantasmagoria, You don't know Jack, amongst others
I played a few of the Space Quest and King's Quest games back in the day, plus Quest for Glory, but I always preferred the LucasArts adventure games. You might enjoy them, the Monkey Island series, Full Throttle, and Loom are definitely worth looking into if you like point and click adventure games. There were also a couple fun Discworld games in that genre.
Didn’t know Discworld books were made into games. I’ve always wanted to try Monkey Island. Surprised I never played Quest for Glory. Also remember a Sierra game where you were a reporter
Quest for glory series was always the Goat for me but space quest, police quest and Kings quest provided hours of entertainment and fun. So much better than today's woke feminist trash despite much worse graphics.
You play all the Kings quest games? I still need to play the last two. Definitely need to play quest for glory
I just discovered, I haven't played KQ 7 and 8. I only played up to 6. I think KQ4 is one of the first games with a female protagonist but it was super enjoyable unlike the horrible girl boss games of today.
Yea. I enjoyed KQ4. Didn’t even think of the whole female protagonist thing. Enjoyed the fairy tale references
I loved them. All of them I ever played, and I think I played all of them.
But the game that is sticking out more and more in my head lately that I think I'm going to try to find and play again (I never beat it) was take-two interactives "Hell: A cyberpunk thriller"
I'd also like to play and beat Full Throttle, I couldn't afford a machine that could play it or the game itself lol
https://archive.org/details/sierra-collection-1988-1993
Thanks!!!
Man thx for the Sierra call out I didnt know they made so many great games but everyone in here is bringing up bangers
I know! I just played the quest games but now I want to get into the others
I played a couple Space Quest games. I was much more into the LucasArts SCUMM games that were similar, Monkey Island, Indiana Jones, etc.
Funny enough the Sierra game I remember most was just a card game. Hoyle cards or something like that. You’d play with characters from their games and for a young boy Leisure Suit Larry was quite funny in that. Never got the actual game I didn’t live in a big city. We had RadioShack and that’s where I wanted to go. I don’t remember many game stores for PC stuff until I was older. Console games were easier to find, but you had to have a console and the money for much more expensive games, so that was also a no-go
3D Ultra Pinball came on one of my computers, that's Sierra~! Oh, and booting up DOS to play Caesar 2, an old half-RTS-half-4X kind of game that was ridiculously hard.
Oh, by a technicality, Half Life 2. Sierra was that one, too. Sorry Valve, you share credit here.
Oh, you probably mean, like, King's Quest franchise, yeah, played that too. I enjoyed the one with the wizard duel at the end.
I had Trophy Bass, and it was my only exposure to Sierra for like 15 years.
It made it very confusing to hear people constantly talk about their games and how hard and crazy they were and think about this comfy little fishing game from my childhood.
Unlike most of their other games, there is basically little point to going back to play it since better fishing games exist in almost every way, unlike the games with writing and puzzles that could still offer something unique. But its my piece of nostalgia.
im sure i played a few.. but the one i rememberred was SWAT demo that came in PC gaming magazine. hehe
SWAT 1 sucks, SWAT 2 is pretty fun- you can build up training your team and get them K9s and shit.
SWAT 4 is great but it's a strategy FPS and your goal is to NOT kill anyone.
Did they make the city building games like Caesar 3 and Pharoah? I played so many hours on those it’s ridiculous. Theres also a Chinese one out there.
I think so
Anyone drink any water back in the day?
If you were gaming in the late 80s early 90s I feel you HAD to have played some Sierra games. Sierra were the OG kings (pun intended) of the adventure game, back then it was odd if you weren't regularly playing games by them, Maxis (SimCity etc), Microprose and later LucasArts. KQ4 was one of the 1st PC games we had.
I recently replayed the fan 3-D remake of SQ3, my fav Sierra game of all time. Sierra made a VGA version of SQ & KQ 1 and fans made SQ3 and KQ 2 & 3. I went back over the last couple years and played SQ4 onwards as I never played them back in the day.
That’s true. Growing up I didn’t realize how popular those games were. I played the original Space Quest 3 but never played the remake. Always wanted to try the first police quest remake.
