Cloudflare has taken down Kiwi Farms
posted 3 years ago by Featherless_Biped 3 years ago by Featherless_Biped +101 / -0

Someone made a very suspicious fedpost and Cloudflare used that as justification to take the site down.

If you have any info as this develops, feel free to post.

This is gonna be a fun conversation with some of our clients come Tuesday.

''Yeah, so that site protection service we're contracted through just reversed course and came to the defense of child predditors. Do you want us to find another company?'

Most of them won't ask for specifics. The ones that do are going to get a bathtub full of information.

I'm hoping with you.

But the problem with such monopolists and concentrations of power and wealth is that they are invulnerable to any backlash. That is why they behave so cavalierly.

The one chance to stop it is DeSantism, the ruthless use of government power to crush the infamous thing, instead of licking corporate boot as conservatives usually do. Jail CEOs for life. Break up companies. Deprive them of government contracts. Go after them for discriminating against whites and Asians. Go after them for discriminating based on politics. Hell, require a judicial procedure before they are allowed to censor, moderate, anything.

To quote this odious lowlife: this is an emergency.

The internet creates the "network effect" which reinforces natural monopolies over infrastructure. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_effect

This isn't new. We've had this for a very long time in the US. We dealt with it by banning companies with this monopoly power from abusing it and exerting influence: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_carrier

Justice Thomas already wrote that we need to deem large internet companies common carriers and ban them from playing God with their customers. https://www.rcfp.org/justice-thomas-knight-v-trump/

Thomas is right, as always, and his solution would fix 99% of the problems we are seeing with th authoritarian left in internet spaces.

Always love hearing from you about this sort of thing (possibly you are so woke on the topic because you yourself are so censored), as the opinion I expect from an establishment/partisan Republican is very much the opposite of this.

the opinion I expect from an establishment/partisan Republican is very much the opposite of this.

Not at all, Thomas is "an establishment Republican" and the vast majority of Republicans would agree with him, especially the establishment ones.

Here is another example of giga-establishment Ben Shapiro saying the same thing: https://twitter.com/benshapiro/status/1124049326123233289

Where you will see disagreement is from the corporate dick sucker establishment "libertarians" from Reason.com: https://reason.com/volokh/2021/07/08/the-case-against-imposing-common-carrier-restrictions-on-social-media-sites/

I consider myself mostly libertarian, but I want to vomit when I see "libertarians" gleefully calling for 0 limitations on corporations of any kind, and open borders, and other absolute retard "ideology over common sense" takes like that.

Hell no, he's a great Crusader.

and the vast majority of Republicans would agree with him, especially the establishment ones.

What are establishment Republicans good for, other than losing, conserving nothing and cutting Goldman Sachs' taxes?

DeSantis is not establishment. Someone like Romney or Jeb Bush is.

Where you will see disagreement is from the corporate dick sucker establishment "libertarians" from Reason.com

Yes, they are beyond salvation.

I consider myself mostly libertarian, but I want to vomit when I see "libertarians" gleefully calling for 0 limitations on corporations of any kind, and open borders, and other absolute retard "ideology over common sense" takes like that.

Yes, I disagree with some of the libertarian stuff that you do believe in, but I respect that you do not dogmatically follow crap.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– dekachin 1 point 3 years ago +1 / -0

We just define "establishment" differently. The vast majority of Republicans are "establishment". Mitt Romney is a very liberal RINO who doesn't agree with most of the "establishment" platform. He works fine as a Massachusetts "republican" because he is right wing in a deep blue state, but not nationally and absolutely not for Utah.

I think you see "establishment" as "co-opted by special interests", which makes the word a slur not a description. Basically no one would admit to that, and it would not clearly describe anyone. I see "establishment" as "willing to be a team player and show loyalty to the party and advance the Party's goals instead of trying to be a 'maverick'". So Liz Cheney is a perfect example of a maverick who went against the establishment. John McCain, Mitt Romney, Susan Collins, Ben Sasse, and various others were/are all anti-establishment.

I respect that you do not dogmatically follow crap.

I reject all ideology. While some ideologies might be superior to others, none of them is 100% correct all the time. We always need to follow what works and what gets us the best result for society overall and long term. We have over 100 years of history of how all kinds of ideologies fuck up societies, it is just that left wing ideologies have been the most aggressive in constantly trying to fuck shit up all the time.

You'd think they'd be all for being proven right. Just grab some popcorn and watch the people who spent years expanding and abusing gov power for their own benefit also take their turn under the boot. Then propose reform once both sides have had a taste of the dirt.

But if they had any long-term foresight they wouldn't be in the state they're in.

They really do feel confident that they can do whatever they want, with no accountability or consequences. And who knows, they may be right.

Western despotisms are worse tyrannies than Russia or China. At least their tyranny is localized. This is international. They control all the media, entertainment, technology companies, the most powerful countries in the world, and then they whine about supposed 'autocracy' (= a place where they do not hold power) in some corner of the world. There is no escape from the clutches of these people.

Censoring a website because a pedophile communist demanded it. That is rich, coming from a money-grubbing company. The bright side in case communists do take over is that Matthew Prince will be put against the wall for being a rich capitalist.

For instance, when a site that opposed LGBTQ+ rights signed up for a paid version of DDoS mitigation service we worked with our Proudflare employee resource group to identify an organization that supported LGBTQ+ rights and donate 100 percent of the fees for our services to them. We don't and won't talk about these efforts publicly because we don't do them for marketing purposes; we do them because they are aligned with what we believe is morally correct. source

Grooming kids is 'morally correct'. Isn't it nice how the Regime has completely inverted what is good and then dares to call it 'morality'?

no accountability or consequences

One of the first things they infiltrated was the justice system, so that if a crime is discovered, it is not prosecuted; if they are prosecuted, the charges are dropped; and if somehow they go to court and are found guilty, the sentence is commuted, or the defendants mass-pardoned.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 8 ▼
– when_we_win_remember 8 points 3 years ago +8 / -0

Oh I think there will be consequences. There would have been consequences for continuing to serve KF as well. There would have been consequences for dropping them but doing so with a reasonable timeframe, as opposed to just flipping a switch. There are always consequences, and I don't just mean in a "butterfly flapped its wings in China" sort of way. This has people's attention.

What were never consequential were the actual posts they're complaining about. Does anybody really believe that these anons are going to do shit? Does anybody believe that their access to KF or lack thereof makes one iota of difference in what they're going to do IRL to Cloudfare? I don't believe it. Cloudfare is being sensitive here. Death threats via internet are worth the paper they're printed on. Something I wish everybody would get used to.

Actually giving people power based on their internet threats kind of undermines the service Cloudflare purports to provide. Your website can't be taken down by "hackers" but it can be by troon losers idly spewing threats from a keyboard? Some guarantee.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 7 ▼
– AntonioOfVenice 7 points 3 years ago +7 / -0

I've long given up on seeing any sort of accountability or consequences for the ruling class or their mad dogs, under the present arrangement. I guess it's good that you are more optimistic.

As for the last part: the ruling class are 100% on board with suicidal troon pedo losers. So they're not going to fear being taken down based on activism, and even if a troon does try it, they'll just point to all the grooming they do and support.

You still operate under the old paradigm where there was such a thing as consistency and rules. There is none anymore. All that exists is the arbitrary exercise of power.

The reason is Googles stranglehold over the Internet. If you use any chromium based browser you are feeding into the problem, yes, even brave. Googles marketshare in terms of browser is just too damn high. I hate Mozilla with a passion but Firefox is the only viable competitor... Since a lot of sites are optimised to work on chromium based browsers you have certain websites that work semi fine or not that great sometimes.

Firefox is chrome/ium-lite, and both founded on google money and uses google tech. Like their extensions among other things. It's not a competitor. Pale Moon is. You're completely right about google's stranglehold on the internet though. Unless we say no to it.

Well, they both follow WHATWG, instead of W3C [1]. They both use google's Web Extensions. They both use google safebrowsing [3]. They both use google's Web Components [4]. They both use the Chrome User Interface [5]. They both use google analytics within their browser [6].They also both use google search as the default search (which is what they're mostly being paid for), and it's obvious that they're trying to play catch-up with Chrome to retain even the few percent of global users they have now when every site only checks if it works against google chrome/ium.

First there was Chris-chan. The original lolcow.

Chris-chan had a thread on Something Awful forums, proto-Kiwi Farms in a sense. What people mostly did was observing his social media output and laughing at his stupid antics and tomfollery.

Then some SA forum users realized there was so much material about this man that they could fill a wiki with, and so it did. Thus CWCwiki was born.

Then those very same people realized that Chris-chan isn't the only one of its kind. So they expanded and rebranded.

CWC sounded similiar to Kiwi. So it became a forums called Kiwi Farms.

And this is Kiwi Farms, an archive gossip forums where those with lots of free time make fun of wierdos.

Kiwi Farms picked up on it and started to gossip about it.

Lucas misconstrued it as Destiny using Kiwi Farms as his personal army to harass him.
