What the fuck ? You know how many actual pop artists existed in the 80s ? Just because 1 happened to be good doesn't mean there isn't a whole mountain of trash.
I like some of the rock bands coming out of Japan these days, but it's very niche and sometimes leans on gimmicks (i.e. Band-Maid) so I don't always feel comfortable recommending it to everyone. Great music though.
Ah, so you enjoyed his later works! Personally, I think peak Uematsu was Dancing Mad, from a technical skill standpoint. JENOVA is some good listening though.
I think Covid and the subsequent lockdowns radically changed the way people look at popular media, at least in the short term.
Quite a few people (particularly young people) wanted to be in the know about the latest songs, movies, and TV shows so they could discuss it with their co-workers or classmates before. Separated from that environment, there's probably more people enjoying media simply because they like it.
Plus more people working from home and thus being able to listen to music while working could be skewing the demographics older and therefore toward old music.
When you are not forced to listen to that shit everywhere be it on the radio, the mall, waiting room of the doctor, etc. you don't become as malliable to modern music. They work by burying into your head so you think you like this inferior music. Not being showered with it all day makes you less likely to seek it out yourself.
I recently did the test myself: I checked out current music in the charts and I could not find one I liked, I went down to top 50, gave it a fair chance but nothing was catching me. I had to cleanse myself with some Enigma right after.
Mind you, there is still great music made. I hate the notion of saying all modern music is shit.. But popular music is all 99% of the time shit. If you want great music still being made nowadays look at games, indie bands, non chart music, different genres. You can find some absolute gems and no, not only metal as some might point out.
Unfortunately I feel like this statistic is simply pop culture still being pop culture. The movies Elvis, Rocketman, Queen (or whatever that one was named), the show Stranger Things, all feature older music. And let's face it that music was all pretty dang good. So I think its why this era of music is growing, and today's music generally speaking sucks. Though I do think your third paragraph also contributes.
When you think that life, following the biological imperative, is all about mating, you get that pretty much 100% of people's lives revolve around attracting someone else, which means being Basic is the best way to achieve that goal.
Probably a good 80%+. Genetics obviously have some influences, the deaf obviously would have different preferences, but upbringing will define most of your musical taste, and upbringing is based on parents following the crowd, and the rest of your preferences are likely marketed, either directly, or word-of-mouth.
One of the benefits of being so irony-poisoned from a young age that I never got into mainstream music to begin with is that I don't feel like I'm old and out of touch when I hear new "artists" and they sound like someone is pressing a turd directly against my eardrum.
Dance Monkey is the worst crime humanity has ever committed.
So let's see, 300M old (meaning anything and everything up to 2020), vs 130M new.
New is still winning by a big margin seeing how the back catalog from god knows when albums started being made in the early 1900s, vs 18 months of music.
Also, since they don't break down the "old" by decade, who knows what people are listening to. It might be some Led Zep, early Queen, or it could be recycled shit like Beyonce's latest album from 2018. Heck, Billie Eilish has a bunch of stuff that fits into that "Old" category.
It doesn't hurt me
Do you want to feel how it feels?
Do you want to know, know that it doesn't hurt me?
Do you want to hear about the deal that I'm making?
Yooouuuuuuuu
LMAO! When nothing of any originality is being produced by most modern record companies, of course people aren't going to buy their shit. A taste for new works still exists, but they want new flavors, not a computer generated pile of half-frozen mashed shit potatoes. Personally, I like retrowave, classic feel, new taste.
Side note, I hate almost all modern streaming shows. I started watching something on Amazon set in 19th century England and quickly see lots of minorities. This is dumb and I'm not going to watch that so I shut it off and watched a movie from 1979. Woke culture must die.
95% of [current year] music is obnoxious AI autotuned crap.
Someone should have a show where these "artists" are called out and have to show up. Then they'll have to use standard instruments and mics they can't plug into anything but an amplifier (if that).
I predict most of them will be hilarious train wrecks.
Just take those old records off the shelf
I'll sit and listen to 'em by myself
Today's music ain't got the same soul
I like that old time rock 'n' roll
-places vinyl record on turntable-
-sets needle-
-hits play-
-Final Fantasy 8 boss music starts playing-
You really can't beat the classics.
There is good new music being made, it's just modern pop music that's gone to hell.
Modern pop music ?
Go listen to the 80s one hit wonders of pop. It was shit back then too.
What the fuck ? You know how many actual pop artists existed in the 80s ? Just because 1 happened to be good doesn't mean there isn't a whole mountain of trash.
Are your logical skills this fucking bad ?
You best not be talking shit bout the 80s boy
Just because the decade was cool doesn't mean the vast majority of synth pop produced wasn't bad.
[blaring synthpop] WHAT?! CAN YOU PLEASE REPEAT THAT
no they were great

Babymetal or bust.
Play some man with the machine gun for me please, FF8 had some all time favorites.
People are so dumbed down toward music anymore. "Man that OS for Elden Ring was fire!"
I was always more of a JENOVA man myself.
Ah, so you enjoyed his later works! Personally, I think peak Uematsu was Dancing Mad, from a technical skill standpoint. JENOVA is some good listening though.
Dancing mad is fantastic. I honestly like most of his work. I listen to Distant Worlds regularly and am on the lookout for a live performance locally.

Not too surprised but to be fair I’m way out of the loop when it comes to modern music
Hick hop
You sum bitch I almost spat my tea out lmao. I love this, it's so accurate it hurts.
I relayed “hick hop” to my dad (60yo) and he kek’d.
Just wanted you to know.
I'll take a kek
Bob Wills or bust imho
Edit: and of course Tommy Duncan
I love me some older country. New stuff not so much

Dance Monkey is the worst crime humanity has ever committed.
Thought you were linking Dance Monkey because monkey is a slur now so it didn't show up in search and I'm, like, that's kind of catchy.
Back in my time Friday the day the music died.
She's performing in Tijuana.
With a donkey?
Ezekiel 23:20 -- on the main stage.
Possibly.
A byproduct of our culture slowly dying.
I'd bet Tiktok is part of the cause. A lot of songs that get popular on tiktok (or clips of songs really) are older.
Or any popular show/movie, etc. If I hear that song from the 80's that was in this season of Stranger Things one more fucking time...
Exposing young people to old music, which they immediately realise is better than the trash they've been fed up to that point, is the cause.
Laughs in Marty Robbins
My Big Iron is ready.
In the southern part of Texas, near the town of San Antone...
Stands a fortress all in ruin that the weeds have overgrown....

That's why I hate percentages.

Everybody things the music they liked when they were 13 is the best
*thinks
In a world degenerating by the decade, they're all correct.
Alas, it was year 1708 when I was 13.
Side note, I hate almost all modern streaming shows. I started watching something on Amazon set in 19th century England and quickly see lots of minorities. This is dumb and I'm not going to watch that so I shut it off and watched a movie from 1979. Woke culture must die.
It'd be nice to see this compared to previous years. Is this part of a years-long trend, or a recent development that can be tied to something recent?
Battle Beast released a new album this year. Decent riffs.
If you like Battle Beast, Beast in Black is also pretty good. They released a new album last year that was also pretty good.
Actually, in general, I have been vibing pretty well with modern Metal and Rock albums, and I have not been hard pressed for new content.
Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd Radiohead The Cure Talking Heads R.E.M Queen etc
Shit all over today's bands, Look at Thor Love and Thunder - basically just played Appetite for Destruction

I put retro DJ mixes on Rumble...
If you're a music fan, you'll love this.

I've been going through old 50s and 60s playlists. A lot of iconic music from that era
Metal is just classical music. Classical music played note for note on electric guitar with a distortion effect is metal.
If you think Metal is made by Jews, you're a literal idiot.
