This show is already DOA for me so at this point I want them to go batshit for the lulz. Make Lilly a coal burner, Harry a "mudblood," and James a literal cuck. Fuck it.
Didn’t even think of that but I wouldn’t put it past them. I’d love to see an actor turn down a race swaps. Will Smith turned down a Superman offer in the 90s but I can’t think of another example
So first you have the unenviable position of being compared to Alan Rickman's performance
...aaannnd now you have to deal with being called a raceswap DEI hire (which you probably are), are Black actors either too dim or too desperate NOT to accept these career ruining roles?
A reminder JK told Rickman what the twist about Snape was before the book it happened in ever came out. He was questioned during film shooting why he kept doing scenes in certain ways that the directors/producers didn't understand and it's because he was the only one who knew the actual character other than Rowling.
This means in hindsight his performance ends up being far better than initially realised however with the twist now known it's never going to carry the same gravitas and if modern writers are consistent in their inability to write nuance it was come across with all the subtlety of 4th wall breaking winks to the audience whenever Snape does something shitty towards the characters.
And Alan Rickman would have been precisely the type of excellent actor to know how to subtly drop those hints and clues without ever really letting the audience know until it happened. Making the second watching of the films even better.
No one else could have performed the nuances required for Dr. Lazarus.
Unironically true. While the catchphrase gets memed to shit all throughout the film the time he sincerely, and softly, speaks the whole thing as Quelik lies dying in his arms shifts the tone from pure humour to primal rage.
By Grabthar's hammer, by the Suns of Warvan, you shall be avenged.
Promised retribution aside Quelik dies happier than he ever might have expected because of that.
And then the unarmed, untrained civilian actor filled with fury charges and punches the alien soldier who had the gun in the face. [Yes the gun was jammed]
are Black actors either too dim or too desperate NOT to accept these career ruining roles?
I think part of it is acting as a career has been almost ruined already. White or black, there's not much cultural room to come to be considered one of The Greats anymore. Actors have ruined actors. So it's not like there' much more respect to be gained by passing up DEI roles and waiting it out for a Respectable Role.
Also, since the industry has been so heavily DEId, most of the roles for blacks are DEI, since the industry cares about skin color so much. As much as we rightly rail against forced diversity...it's honestly not an enviable position to be a black actor trying to be respected nowadays.
Its why if you ask someone to name the first black actor or the biggest black actor they know.. theyll name someone old. Usual denzel, morgan freeman, wesley snipes, will smith. No one cares or admire any new ones
I sometimes will watch artist or AI draw characters as described in the book compared to the tv version and it's funny when they race swap. Nobody dare talks about the blaring different
I'm telling you... The insults used in the books to describe Snape will instantly make the Marauders look like, not just bullies, but racists. Or they'll just cut those parts which will remove the weight of the disdain.
Not that this is shocking...but I haven't followed this project in the slightest. Is it a prequel? If so...are they raceswapping, and then making everything about race? Snape wasn't accepted and was bullied because he was bBlack?
That would be even stupider. Raceswaps are bad and lazy. Raceswaps that you then base the whole story around are infinitely worse.
On the other hand, books might be better as tv show seasons because trying to fit everything into 2 hours of film often means cutting stuff.
On the third alien tentacle, if the original pitch had been for a tv show it probably wouldn't have happened as one of the main things carrying this project will be the success of the films and more recent tv show adaptations rather than movies back then.
Any hope for this show is gone. I know some will say good writing can overcome it but at this point when you see race swaps when the source material clearly describes the character it lets you know the priorities of the showrunners. Look at Wheel of Time, Rings of Power, Kenobi (clearly girl power was more important than a show about Kenobi), Arya killing Night King, Stranger Things girl power and unnecessary lesbian reveal. I could go on and on but you get the point
An ongoing reminder this 2022 show literally lifted the plot to the 2019 Fallen Order video game.
Arya killing Night King
Even the actresses boyfriend questioned her about that, goes to show outside of the shows casting bubble nobody thought it was a good move despite the showrunners and majority of the female cast at the final reading cheering when this was read out. Speaking of, some of the cast were clearly very pissed off with how the show ended as shown in that final reading video. Varys get written out like a moron and his actor drops the script visibly disgusted at the writing, Jon ends up almost back where he started north of The Wall after killing the woman he loves - which Kit finds out about during the reading and Emilia sits across from him looking sorry how shit their story has turned out, Arya completely misses the entire point of not going off solo because "a lone wolf dies while the pack lives" or whatever the lesson was she was meant to learn, Sansa secedes from the Seven Kingdoms like a retard because now every other Kingdom, has carte blanche to attack The North with impunity, the pirate one in particular that has a history of doing just this, since it's not longer an internal act towards a fellow nation, and Bran gets elected King because once again Americans have zero fucking clue how a monarchy actually ever works.
Its not happening on another planet. She should be aware of the casting by now and if she doesnt speak up, im gonna assume she's fine with it. Which shouldnt be a surprise, she is a TERF after all. Equality for thee but not for she
There's an old Futurama joke implying that they're effectively vanity credits. In any case, I would link giving her that credit to the product having her endorsement.
Like the Snape character is an cruel teacher/principal that tortured children still thinking about an imaginary relationship with the one girl that wasn't rude to him. We're supposed to call him a good guy for opposing Voldy for selfish reasons murdering the one guy that thought Snape was ok instead of any other option.
And Mr Black there has to be the one that follows the late & great Alan Rickman. Everyone is going to compare the two and he isn't going to measure up. It's an expected failure. So let's iust hand this thing off...
No, no, don't knock it, people. This is a great role for a black person to take! Don't most black teachers in schools and universities have a permanent chip on their shoulders and treat everyone, especially their students, like shit because they've been oh-so-terribly treated in the past? Maybe in some way, Snape was always meant to be black (or "black-coded" as the leftists would say).
Oh I see them using his race as a reason why Harry's mom doesn't pick a relationship with Snape over Harry's dad.
No, no, now Snape is Harry's dad!
Can you imagine?
Did they caste Harry yet? Is he a half-blood
"He?"
Did you just assume their gender?!
This show is already DOA for me so at this point I want them to go batshit for the lulz. Make Lilly a coal burner, Harry a "mudblood," and James a literal cuck. Fuck it.
Black disabled Hermione here we go!
Didn’t even think of that but I wouldn’t put it past them. I’d love to see an actor turn down a race swaps. Will Smith turned down a Superman offer in the 90s but I can’t think of another example
To be fair he turned down "The Matrix" for "The Wild West". He makes some doozey decisions
There’s probably not a lot of oxygen in the cuck closet.
IIRC Idris Elba said something along the lines of refusing to play James Bond.
He said he didn't want the part because he's too old to play it. He was asked about playing Bond in an interview and he that was his response
We could take it at face value or just as a diplomatic, "stop asking me this question."
If they threw enough money at him, he’d be “Bond. Jamequez Bond.”
Oh yea. I do remember that.
Based momma.
She ain't no coalburner.

If they had shame, it would be rough.
And Alan Rickman would have been precisely the type of excellent actor to know how to subtly drop those hints and clues without ever really letting the audience know until it happened. Making the second watching of the films even better.
A true talent.
No one else could have performed the nuances required for Dr. Lazarus.
“By Grabthar’s Hammer, what a savings.”

I was being serious.

Exactly.
Sadly, DEI destroyed the chances of competent nonwhites in many sectors.
John Boyega might've had a chance, had Finn received a proper character arc and the Star Wars sequels not been entirely about Rey.
I mean, I think that has more to do with that Stars Wars is - or was - a massive franchise, than him being a great actor.
He's no Morgan Freeman or Denzel Washington, who deserve the fame and accolades.
Actors? Respect? There's a reason why thespians were so looked down on in olden times.
Honestly, I think Hollywood ruined them by promoting fellow Cluster B's to the top of the pack as heroes.
Don’t forget that in the books Snape is clearly described
So were a lot of characters and that hasn't stopped attempts at changing a lot of things about them.
True. Also in the past I did t care or notice so much because we weren’t bombarded with constant race and gender swaps while being lectured about it
Blackwashing.
I sometimes will watch artist or AI draw characters as described in the book compared to the tv version and it's funny when they race swap. Nobody dare talks about the blaring different
Yep. Elephant in the room
Why not both?
Stop comparing him to Rickman you racist.

Supposed to be the books but as a TV series
And they're doing this why?!
Damn, that's pathetic.
Probably cause they need something to hold onto the license and the last fantastic beast movie was utter shit
On the one hand, yes.

To add diversity
$$$HERE COME$ THE MONEY$$$
Ofc not, [Sirius] Black was one of the ones doing the bullying! huehuehue

Fire up the salt mines, we're going to need a lot of salt for this one.
Could probably add incel to that list.

And of course "based" JK Rowling will be all for this, i bet
From one of the previous threads when this casting was speculated, it was mentioned that she is involved with the show as an executive producer.
Executive producer is pretty hands-off compared to a standard producer. It's basically given to IP rights holders as a formality.
Its not happening on another planet. She should be aware of the casting by now and if she doesnt speak up, im gonna assume she's fine with it. Which shouldnt be a surprise, she is a TERF after all. Equality for thee but not for she

Ever notice the DEI positions?

Lol, never watching that shit.
I like the books and the original movies. as the children / teenager stories they were.
I'm so sick of black names being cat-on-keyboard levels of gibberish.

What does HBO mean by this?
The B in HBO stands for Black Entertainment Television.
HBO has always been progressive but since Trump it has started to incorporate 'critical race theory' into all of its programming.
