Welcome to “equality” where men pay twice so women can feel included.

I know Clark is super popular now but I wonder how long it will last. Or if people will be interested enough to watch wnba

It’s an artificial movement propped up by esg dollars and social engineering, this is no different that the pretend hype we saw behind female soccer players a year or two ago and female tennis before that. They only exist in anyone’s brains because of advertising and promotions, not any actual athletic talent.

What I figure. My main annoyance is getting lectured n by people who don’t even support it.

Female tennis wasn't propped up. The Williams sisters certainly are, but women's tennis was watched with intense focus and laser like dedication. Especially when those Eastern European ladies were playing.

Many women’s tennis players are fine as hell. Unlike the wnba.

Rhonda Rousey was the most hilarious. The sports media were proclaiming her the greatest athlete who ever lived (literally, they said that) and then she had to retire after a handful of fights and is now a mother.

You're spot on. Womens' sports in general have been getting promoted so heavily the past few years. I think a large part of it is the traditional sports market is tapped out. Same reason every fast food place is trying to sell breakfast now. It's the same old marketing gimmicks in a new place.

First off, caring about muh shoes is a black thing, and it's retarded.

Secondly,

In a majority-Black league there are currently no Black players with signature shoes. There've only been 12 players in the history of the WNBA with their own signature shoe. In the past, almost every signature shoe from 1995-2011 belonged to a Black woman. The fact that only white women hold the power of the signature shoe now, as the WNBA enters its most high profile and prosperous phase, shows how Black women are being ignored in a league that they dominate.

Reeeee white people get something for once how dare they

Fuck off.

as the WNBA enters its most high profile and prosperous phase

Jesus Christ, the delusion. They legitimately believe that the NBA is only more popular and profitable - by a factor of about 1000 - because it had a head start of several decades. As if you could chart the WNBA’s expected growth by mapping it directly onto the NBA’s trajectory over the last 70 years. These are comically low IQ people.

You invest in something because of DEI and then you have to sell it. To investors too.

Caring about shoes is also very much a woman thing. But the shoes they care about aren't athletic shoes.

Why don't they give the WNBA player signature high heels? You might get some funny reactions out of that.

– ernsithe 2 points 2 years ago +2 / -0

Because those might actually be popular and then how will they complain? Actually, it seems that sneaker-themed heels are a niche thing and they're actually kind of interesting looking. Leaving money on the table.

Wasen't there some guy / gal androgynous atrocity that got jailed for a drug crime in Russia? His/her/its name might sound familiar.

For reasons unrelated to basketbal. ( Got traded with Russia for basically ''Comic Book Villain Arms Dealer''. )

So that's sort of proving the point even further.

A really easy way to point out how all of these "not enough x(favored group) in y(high prestige activity)" agitations are garbage.

Ask how many is the correct number, then ask how the complainer knows that number is correct.

If they come back with "it isn't zero" then press them on how they know.

They will eventually fall back to the default NPC dialogue tree option of calling you racist.

There've only been 12 players in the history of the WNBA with their own signature shoe. In the past, almost every signature shoe from 1995-2011 belonged to a black (sic) woman. The fact that only white women hold the power of the signature shoe now, as the WNBA enters its most high profile and prosperous phase, shows how black (sic) women are being ignored in a league that they dominate.

They don't say how many "white women hold the power of the signature shoe now" so there's no way to even know what we're comparing. It's so weaselly worded that I don't even understand how how a list of 12 people that was, at least at one point, dominated by black women now somehow has its "power" held by white women. What, are there 2 current white women with signature shoes and 0 black women? Is that what we're complaining about? Or is it 1 white woman that the article acknowledges as the best player in the world, making it even stupider?

Also, somehow the fact that black women dominated the list from 1995-2011 isn't a problem, because they suddenly understand per-capita.

God I hate these people.

Who would want to pay those nappy headed hoes a single penny to endorse a shoe?

It's been over a decade and a half, and that's still the most relevant they've ever been. Women's basketball players are only ever going to be associated with that comment, all because the media had to raise a shit-kicking fit over it.

Seems like USA Today has been on a campaign of sorts around women's basketball. I saw a story come up from them last month about a need for black women to be the stars at the collegiate level.
https://archive.is/tT6Bu
One might suggest that their urnalists are upset about the popularity of Caitlin Clark.

I used follow the NBA religiously. Now I only catch passing info when talking to certain old friends.

Arguably the two best players in the entire league right now are white, and a lot of black fans and players can’t fucking stand it. It’s hilarious.
