Liberal arts are useless for most of the ppl taking them. He only thinks it's not because he's still taking courses. Wait until he and his cohort have been out on the workforce for a few years

But dude is a snowflake

"Liberal arts is useless" is supposed to be a warning, but these people take it as an insult. Just can't help stupid. 🤷‍♂️

It became an insult after they didn't heed the warning :)

Sounds like he'll be a career academic. I doubt he'll be joining the real workforce anytime soon.

Almost entirely useless. Easiest degrees too let those types are the ones who seem to struggle the most. Your average liberal arts major will take 7 years to graduate and rack up a shit ton of debt meanwhile you got some STEM student getting a bachelors in civil engineering in 4-5 years, no debt, no bitching, better grades. They attract idiots and under achievers.

Economics majors are typically business school admissions failure or dropouts. [I would know.]

History is rather useful, but probably not the history that this loser is learning.

But Academia is where a lot of the lunacy came from, and still is.

I got the two initial vaxx shots in Spring 21, but didn't get the booster. So, the community college I work at is (and has been for the entire year) insisting I need to get tested for the coof every single week. Yes, even now. Is there any rational reason? No. But Coof Bad! so unboosted plague rats need to keep getting tested apparently.

This is exactly the same as Labor in Australia (Labor being, in essence, the left wing of your Dem party)…

Like, word for word exactly the same…

Same in NZ. 😳

I'd say they're being smart by not provoking the admins and trying to appeal to as broad a coalition of people against lockdowns as possible.

Every left-winger will instantly shut down if he has even a whiff of "blaming the left" or "blaming the Democrats".

But why? That's dishonest, homie. I don't think anyone can reasonably dispute that leftists were the genesis of lockdown measures.

Do you want to vent, do you want a pat on your shoulder for your supposed "honesty", or do you want a greater chance of actually achieving something?

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 11 ▼
– Hugs 11 points 4 years ago +11 / -0

I don't think we can achieve anything meaningful if we "play nice" -- aka lie -- over apportioning blame with respect to lockdown restrictions. Building any kind of partnerships on a series of deliberately false pretenses is never going to result in "achieving something". The whole idea is compromised from the start.

▲ 1 ▼

That 'apportioning blame' need not be done by the moderators of that sub though.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 4 ▼
– Hugs 4 points 4 years ago +4 / -0

True, but they also don't need to deliberately steer blame away from appropriate targets, such as overzealous leftist academics who encouraged harsh restrictions. I think we just disagree, no harm in that.

Academia is woke indoctrination.

If it were actually teaching people to think, students and professors would be leading the protests against both mandates and even allowing a medical treatment as dangerous as the Pfizer jabs to even be used.

NGL, when I saw the headline on this post, my first reaction was "They're blaming it on No Nut November?"

In all seriousness, though, the dude who is pissing and moaning has he equivalencies out of order for the proper order of operations. Higher academia = woke indoctrination, and in turn woke indoctrination = bad. Obviously this guy doesn't believe that so he's thrashing against reality and trying to make people bend to his mindset.

Until universities can be purged of these post-modernist asshats that want to preach wokeness over actually teaching facts and logic, my general recommendation to anyone post-high-school that doesn't know what they want to do with their life is to go to a trade school or stick to hard sciences. Plumbing, heating, and electrical work don't give a fuck about your feelings. Computer code either works or it doesn't, and math doesn't lie.

College and University without a direct high-paying career path in a non-parasitic woke job ( HR or Diversity grifts, journalism, etc ) are scams.

The price is NOT worth what you're looking for, or you expect taxpayers to foot your frivolous bills.

Either way, anything but STEM became a huge drain and a woke cancer to society.

It's one of the many signs that academia is no longer at universities. They opened the internet to give out and swap knowledge. As more people began to gain and understand, it also meant that many classes and even degrees are falling by the wayside.

I have a friend who is an architect, and he pointed out that most of the buildings he has helped design were actually put together by an engineer using a commonly used program. Then my friend made the display on those designs. He is the architect, but the technology has removed him from needing to be there. His university has decided that the best way to deal with this is by pushing insane work hours. He didn't even know what monster tasted like until classes and is now drinking it at least once a day. Then they get really into details. There is a story about one of the teachers saying the font was the wrong color black. I thought he was joking, but apparently, it is a common problem.

Now imagine the entire world of architecture, architects, and how they think and act. This entire built culture is pushing so hard, and also disappearing at the same time. They can't handle the idea of technology defeating them. They even have a type of 3D rendering software, but its kind of archaic and difficult to work with compared to Maya and even Blender. The stubbornness of being the smartest person because you are the architect is one of the very reasons why an engineer maybe replaces them.

This is just one field but think about medical science or law, or anything that technology could change a lot. Every single one of them has the same story. People who are famously stubborn and think they're the smartest people in the world not understanding how technology works, and going against it or misusing it. At the same time, everything they do is being replaced by a tech who is quite humble.

The entire academic field is full of this, and not looking outside of their bubble to see people debating and looking at stats without them. Their entire world is the encyclopedia that sits on a bookshelf, and they control what is said in it. Every class, student, teacher, and department is filled with the idea that only they put books on that shelf. Even if they put the book on Kindle, they won't recognize all of the other books written by scholars outside of their bubble. They refuse to see the change.

But there is a counterpoint. (Why yes, I am waiting for something to compile, how did you know?) No one owns an encyclopedia anymore unless they have some form of historical curiosity. We have accepted that this is not the best way to gain modern knowledge. However, we still require the piece of paper that is required to write that same encyclopedia. Society has not moved on and is having difficulties accepting this huge change. In the same way, giant companies that cover entire cities ended because we learned to telecommute, many businesses and other employers demand the acceptance of a degree to complete a job.

So, the person who just wants to study and be a student for life doesn't really know what to do. The universities are going under, and there are no jobs unless they go to university for something that is being replaced. We know what is happening, but society has not accepted it yet. We are all metal smiths facing the new factories, and wondering where we go in life.

Another comment of his is just perfect:

Yes, plenty of jobs utilise the skills gained by doing a history degree, that’s why history majors go into all sorts of diverse areas with exactly the same average unemployment rate as other majors. Again, this hating on the humanities shtick is old, outdated, and quite frankly stupid.

Oh, and what field is knowing how to write properly NOT a useful skill lol. Just saying, I have friends that studied history in my year that went to work in the DA office, work in HR, public relations, marketing, editing, finance, government jobs, etc.

I mean wow, dude, history is such a useful field you can't name a single job your friends got that actually uses it in literally any way. Truly money well spent.

This is your brain on western education.

I've got a friend with a history major, who digs up shit to sell to museums. But then again, I surround myself with competent people, so it's no surprise the one who sought out history major actually had an idea and goal in mind when they took it, and followed through with it. OP, clearly, not so much.

This is, unfortunately, the type of, I’m gonna say troll, honestly, that has invaded the LDS-AU sub, too…

It’s become all upper middle class “class war” shitting on the poor and less educated, and blaming them for everything…

Or shitting on people for going to shopping centres (what you call “malls”) or wanting to do shit on person, rather than online, because Reddit cannot handle that people would rather live their lives in the real world, even in subs like that…

I’m really not sure what’s going on, but I can assure you, it’s across all the skeptic subs, now, sadly. Not just that one…

And it has completely put me off bothering to post there, along with the relentless censorship and agenda-pushing by the schizo mods, lol… 🙄
