Yes, I'm not sure how universal suffrage came to be considered a core component of American democracy, since the founding fathers didn't see it that way.

I personally believe we should have something like the service requirement in Starship Troopers to vote. At a minimum, those receiving public assistance shouldn't be allowed to vote, as they're basically deciding how to spend other people's money.

Did you know that there is a monument dedicated to German POWs in the Chattanooga, TN national cemetery? https://ncagermanpows.omeka.net/items/browse?tags=chattanooga

Ataturk commemorated the Australian dead of the Gallipoli campaign at an Australian cemetery in Turkey in a speech where he said:

You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours

https://www.awm.gov.au/articles/encyclopedia/ataturk

The point being that those who actually do the fighting and dying do not usually bear a generations-spanning grudge against their enemy. The push to purge Confederate memorials from public spaces is a wholly current fashion, driven almost entirely by people who have never served a day in uniform in their lives and probably look down on those who do.

Regardless of the merit of the individual being honored by their substitute monuments, it doesn't justify removing existing memorials, particularly when the soldiers who would have the most right to ask for their removal have historically been OK with them.

"Tyranny of the majority" is the phrase you're looking for, and it's why the federal government was styled as a Republic rather than a pure democracy. It's also what I think will lead to another civil war.

The left thinks that having a slim majority makes it OK to make life a living hell for the minority, who will just have to take it because the majority can use the legal system as a bludgeon against them. It really doesn't occur to them that the minority might just abandon the system entirely if it's rigged against them.

Weren't bands protesting Ticketmaster having a stranglehold on ticket sales over 20 years ago? The government has had plenty of time to step in and solve it.

Most users commended the user for speaking their mind in such a highly controversial way.

“This generation is fearless and I am here for it,” one user commented.

That's not fearless, it's tasteless and classless and smacks of extreme selfishness. The funeral is not the time to air grievances, and it's not about you, it's to honor the deceased. There is nothing brave about this creature ignoring social standards in an attention seeking stunt.

It took me some research to find: Name, Image Likeness. My guess is that those are the exact words from the court decision that forced the NCAA to let the athletes make money.

The 'Last Generation' group defended the protest, saying in a tweet that they were protesting 'oil and gas drilling,'

Oh, I was unaware of Gustav Klimt's ties to the oil industry, or was it the museum?

In my experience, attacking an unrelated third party has the effect of turning them against you rather than earning you sympathy.

I'm sure he'll get shut down in court rather quickly. It violates anti-discrimination laws on its face.

I'm sure the left doesn't think that discriminating against whites is a problem because "muh systemic racism" and apparently two wrongs do make a right in their eyes, but the law doesn't work that way.

It should be extraordinarily hard to get a no-knock warrant. They should have to prove an extreme threat of violence or that evidence will be destroyed. Our legal system is a farce, one step removed from Soviet Russia.

While you are not supposed to get a physical disc with collector’s editions, you are supposed to get a steelbook case, and a download code for the game inside of that.

If you're not getting a disc, what is the point of the steel book case?

This country does more vetting of people buying beer at a 7/11 than of voters. It's fucked.

I'm of the opinion that all voting should be in-person, on election day, with extremely limited exceptions for military stationed out of state and invalids. And those should have robust identity verification.

Make election day a holiday like other countries and there's no excuse not to vote. If you can't be bothered to drag your ass to a polling station, your opinion doesn't matter.

It's so obvious that people on public assistance shouldn't be allowed to vote that it causes me genuine pain to repeatedly see the consequences in action.

You wouldn't let the jackass who doesn't want to chip in when the office orders pizza have a say in the toppings, so why would you allow a welfare recipient to determine how much welfare to give out? SMH

Hilarity ensues when the same people who tell us that you're a racist POS if you want a voter to prove they're eligible to vote flip their shit over people being able to use false identities in a meaningless online chat space.

Now if it's all a troll, then he's a fuckin baller.

To commit to something so crazy and stay the course through international ridicule must take an iron will.

Being "pro" any country other than the US should be political suicide for US politicians. Your job is to take care of your fellow citizens, not shill for a foreign country.

I'm not religious and I see no problem with this. We are constantly bombarded with pro-gay/trans messages encoded in popular media. Why is that OK, but someone who believes in god and country putting that in their media is not?

It's not like it's some insidious bait and switch, what these books is about is emblazoned in the cover. If you don't want to read them walk away. This is 100 times more honest than having Spiderman randomly extol the virtues of trannies in a comic you thought was going to be about superheroes.

This. Professional cake bakers definitely have their place- anything I tried to make with fondant would look like an episode of Nailed It. This is a relatively simple layer cake without decoration. As long as you follow the directions and have a decent oven, you'll be fine.

The thing that surprises me the most about fast food is how much more caloric it is by volume than homemade equivalents.

I've been tracking my meals on a phone app, and I had a breakfast burger thing at Hardee's the other day and it was almost 1,000 calories. The equivalent homemade English muffin breakfast sandwich is around 300-400 calories with egg, cheese, and meat. It wasn't a huge meal at Hardee's and I was hungry again at about the same time as usual- just with 600 more calories consumed.

Oh man, I re-watched DS9 this last summer and they took Gul Dukat from a complex villain/frenemy of the crew to an unredeemable shit by the end of the Dominion occupation of Cardassia.

It's pretty jarring when you bring watch the show and don't have years between the seasons to forget how he used to be.

Blocking traffic as a protest tactic should work for about 20 minutes- just as long as it takes a massive police unit to descend on you, crack your skulls, and throw you in the back of a paddy wagon. If you bring cars or other barricades they should just bulldoze that shit into the shoulder. Then charge everyone with one count of kidnapping for every car that they trapped on the freeway doing this shit.

Whatever your cause is, if you start fucking with me you've made me your enemy.

Justice Kagan asked Mr. Strawbridge whether universities could put a thumb on the scale in admissions decisions to ensure that men were adequately represented in an era in which most college applicants are women.

Admits men are a minority.

Justice Kagan said the differing treatment “would be peculiar,” adding that “white men get the thumb on the scale, but people who have been kicked in the teeth by our society for centuries do not?”

But muh historical oppression!

I don't agree with affirmative action, but it's ostensibly designed to give people who are underrepresented right now, today, a leg up. Extending benefits to a class because they suffered in the distant past is the same as giving me veterans benefits because my great-great grandfather fought in the Civil War.

Researchers at metaverse analysts DappRadar say that $1.93bn worth of cryptocurrency has been spent buying virtual land in the past year alone, with $22m of that spent on about 3,000 parcels of land in Voxels.

Fake money for fake land. That's fitting.

Seriously though, why would anyone spend a penny on a parcel of land in a video game? They can always just add more or open a new server or something. Without any real scarcity this so-called "property" has no value.

I think I made it through season 2 before I stopped watching. My interest plummeted after the whole background of Ed Harris's character was explained. Once there wasn't any mystery left to solve, I lost interest in the show. The whole robot revolt thing didn't do it for me either.

I no longer audition for roles of people of color

You, of course, also feel that people of color shouldn't audition for ethnically white characters, right?
