I've spent a lot of years off and on volunteering with a local big brother equivalent.
Its always like 3 of us dudes (never any women), with 30+ kids looking for someone to pair with. All races, all mostly innocent kids in a bad situation with someone trying to make them have a better chance at life. And its just me and a few others usually pretty conservative or centrist dudes just trying to give our time.
The organization literally just asks for an hour a week from us (you can do more, but you have to do an hour to qualify for the tax benefit), a literal drop in the bucket, and not a single strongly Liberal person to show up and help these little Mexican or black kids not fall into gangs or drugs before they turn 12.
I haven't ever attempted big brother(a couple guys I knew from the service did though), although I've done a fair amount of designated driver volunteering in the past.
Its pretty fulfilling. Usually you'll end with up a kid who literally worships you as some idol, since their own father is usually incredibly lacking (which is why they end up there), so you are motivated to be the best version of yourself to be a good example for them.
While obviously just having a kid of your own is the best version of that for everyone, trying to improve your local community one life at a time still brings its own benefits.

That's the reason I'm also "off and on." I did it during the calmer years of my first two, and now with three I'm mostly off there myself. But I can see myself going back once my last one is in her teens and time is open again.
At least a few of the guys I met doing it were empty nesters in their 50s.

Exactly. I could at least respect a Bernie or free stuff supporter who also volunteered their own time to help the less fortunate but they truly believe the govt exists to solve everyone’s needs and “progressive” Christians seem to miss the point Jesus made about helping those in need
Is it a miss if they weren't aiming at that target? I've noticed liberals never bring up Christ except to claim that He would allow waves of invaders or applaud tax slavery. They certainly don't want to hear the "stop being a whore and follow my example" parts of the New Testament, for instance.
Personally I think it's just a halfassed attempt to use passages and parables they don't understand as a cudgel. I don't think there is such a thing as a left wing Christian. Merely someone who is either lying to themselves, or lying to you.

A big mental shift we need in the US is to stop acting like the US is the problem if people come here illegally and have kids and then they end getting deported. We’re not deporting people that misfiled some paperwork or were a day or two over a deadline or have some kind of a polite grey area. I used to be more pro Dreamer, but it just makes the problem worse by rewarding it. Anchor babies in general also never made any sense. Can we go to China while pregnant and have a kid in the airport and now we’re citizens?

Article III Judges are already preparing to issue orders demanding these children be "returned." Here's the thing, their mothers could put them back on a flight to the US tomorrow if they wanted. No court order required. We are witnessing the purpose of anchor babies in real time and people are falling for the scam.
Simple fix. Ban unaccompanied minors. The movie too. My ex wife made me watch it and imo everyone involved should be deported.

I'm laughing at the footage and videos I've been getting this week:

A raid at an illegal nightclub in the Rocky mountain area catch over a hundred.
Florida cops and ICE working closely together to catch hundreds more.
It's happening at a rate that it's encouraging a lot to self deport than get caught by the system. It's great to see.
Operation Wetback had the same effect. Several times more ran, than were ever caught. All that we ever had to do to solve the problem was stop doing nothing.
You also have to stop paying to import them, which is what DOGE did.
We still need a lot more. Frankly, what's happening is that the judiciary is basically preventing a 'positive feedback loop'. ICE is deporting people, but not at the rate to manually throw people out of the country. They are deporting enough to cause people to self-deport, which does ICE's job for them, which means that ICE can move from terrorists with deportation orders to terrorists without deportation orders. Then to regular criminals, then to fraudulent refugees, then to visa overstayers, ect. But the judiciary is basically preventing ICE from exploiting that positive feedback loop, and convincing the illegals who haven't committed extra crimes to hang on because ICE can't focus on them yet.

For years I've had no problem trolling through reddit, twitter, and similar sites to keep my finger on the pulse of "the other side." I'm not sure I can do it anymore. These people are increasingly detached from the reality of almost every issue and their delusions are being actively encouraged by journalists and politicians. Easy solution for anchor babies: deport the woman, keep the kid and give it to white, Christian parents in a closed adoption, burn all documentation to make it impossible for the whore to ever find the child
