It's impressive that there were enough people in power at Sony who thought that this was it, that this was the product to stake everything on. Must have been one hell of an echo chamber.
I mean, they got what they wanted. Except they overlooked that Star Wars has been circling the drain for quite a while.
Typical DEI bullshittery. Diversity means you are ever only allowed to have the same opinion. No dissent allowed.
[Heavy voice] "It cost 400 million dollars to run this for twelve days."
By the way, that's about 24k a minute, every minute, of those 12 days.
Still cheaper than The Acolyte.
TONY STARK BUILT ONE IN A CAVE WITH A PILE OF SCRAPS
Yeah and Hyenas was at least $80 million and it was canceled before it even launched, they said it was Sega's most expensive game yet. I can only imagine how many additional projects are going to get shelved early due to this.
I will actually be a little bummed out if they are smart enough to shelve them early. I want them to fall for the sunk cost fallacy and release their expensive bombs just so I can laugh maniacally as I watch the AAA industry burn.
I think I will actually be happier when Ubisoft goes under than when Kotaku does.
Holy shit i want ubisoft to fucking die.
Nearly 400M in free government money a year and they STILL manage to lose money lol
Lol we're at the point when a completed Batgirl movie was shelved because it was so bad. Like what lol
I'm surprised they have just enough self-awareness to shelve or pull the plugs on some of these DEI bombs.
Sounds like a form of corporate trender mentality. "Yes, you totally look like a woman, but you should probably do something about your stubble and hairy gut ... Wait, why are you ringing the police?"
Not only 400 million, they PROJECTED 1 billion for it. This is a Disney level flop for a company that can’t take that hit.
They honestly thought it was going to be a mega hit.
I saw some leak claim that they thought it was going to be the future of Sony's gaming division and the centerpiece of their brand. They were set to go all out with allowing the characters to do guest appearances in other games and whatever other seasonal events. They really believed that putting fat PoC special interests front and center was going to multiply profits and player interest exponentially.
I hope at least one talentless freak working there took its failure like a kick to the balls.
They thought this was gonna be a new Star Wars level IP. Goes to show how much the Sony HQ is huffing paint, anyone without a filter could've warned them, lol
How on earth is it that the people with authority to make decisions on how to spend hundreds of millions of dollars are this dogshit stupid? Running this shit by any middle schooler would have let you know this was an awful idea, but no, let's let people this fucking retarded have this much power.
Society is completely broken.
Because it all about social leverage and not competence off the higher ups these days, and they can most of the time mitigate their losses.
So you can just charm your way into a position that lets you squander $400 million without being remotely competent? There's some piece to this puzzle that I am missing.
That corruption means that you want to have incompetent people in which you can control?
All you have to do is ensure that there is a mass of people to blame that is not you which means that your ass is covered?
Blackmail is not only topdown but all over the place?
Beware above are just ideas, Hard to give answers to query that i'm not quite understanding.
Who looks at the cast of characters and think this is a good idea?
Well many here ''noticed'' who designed those characters.
And I thought Destiny was a boondoggle.
This is more than some whole government departments.
Also do not forget: Sony bought the studio WAY into production a year before release. They saw this woke holocaust and thought hey, this looks great. Literally just point at them and laugh, maybe give em a dunce cap.
While its fun to dunk on, and its all deserved, the bandwagon train against this game means that now we have reached the "exaggerate or make up something to clickbait our name into the algorithm with this." Triple especially if the "shocking revelation" comes from an unnamed source that reached out directly to only the guy reporting it.
Not to say this isn't true, because I have no reason to think it isn't, but its something to keep in mind about all these big numbers and conversations.
That was why I said "reportedly".
I know, it wasn't accusatory. Simply a consideration for people to keep in mind.
Because much like the word "allegedly," people skip over it in their brains and just roll with anything they read on its face value.
I wasn't trying to imply that you were. Just that I agree with you and took it into account.
That also doesn't include the fluffing up of numbers for tax purposes and all the other fun forms of Hollywood Accounting this country uses.
I truly doubt Sony lost 400m or whatever on this. On paper they might claim such, but in reality its likely a fraction of that and the money is just magically gone and used so it can't be used against them.
That crash really is coming back after 40 years, isn't it?
People still buy videogames, plenty of small studios still produce good games.
It's just the over-inflated, woke infested big studios that set themselves on fire.
Easy to imagine future articles about the ''collapse of the videogames industry'' focussing on the ''value'' of the industry crashing because the Wallstreet ''value'' of the big studios collapse, while sales of videogames from small studios are doing great.
I came here from /all and was excited to read something about the jet. Imagine my disappointment to find it's just about yet another woke disaster instead.
Isn't that spelled Concorde, though?
I keep comparing the Concord debacle to GTA5. GTA5 was in development for 3-5 years (there is no definitive source I can find, all give different results). If Concord were at all competently run and didn't faff about for 8 years, while it stil probably wouldn't have been a pop culture dynamo like they were banking on it might have at least made a profit. If it took 5 years to make it would have come out at the height of the covid hysteria when so many were too afraid to leave their homes and were rolling in unemployment stipends. If it took 3 years to make, it would have come out at the peak of the SJW craze and the media would have hyped it like nothing else. But no, they waffled too long and when it did come out the pendulum was in the process of swinging back.
That's double the original figure. That makes it even funnier.
$10 mil to the dev team, $200mil for marketing, and the rest for activism?
Celebrating the death of Concord is a mixed blessing, because the lesson Sony will take from this is "we have to double up with shitting on existing IP instead of rolling something new."
Dragon Age Transguard will probably sell well enough to reinforce this, because retard consoomers.
It's only mixed if you want Sony to survive. That's something I haven't done since they thought they had the right to install rootkits on our computers.
I thought you were talking about the airplane.
That's leftist (woke) mentality: "double down, then double down again!"
Keep raising the stakes and eventually the conservatives will just give up in fear of losing! (No, we get disgusted and leave is what happens).
Unfortunately for them, the "conservative patriarchy" they imagined they were fighting against doesn't exist. All the times they doubled down they were betting against unmoving economic forces. Just like Mother Nature, these forces don't care if you live or die & you cannot cheat your way to victory.
FAFO for $400 million Alex!
$400 million is like GTAV money, that can't possibly be true for a shitty woke hero shooter.
There's so many people involved in making this abomination that the credits are over an hour long. This isn't a kickstarter game where they have every backer in the credits, yet it takes an hour. Think about payroll alone, nevermind office space, workstations, etc
Holy shit
