The declaration "Fallout sucks" is not worthy of a post on its own, but I'm more curious about the state of media in general due to my generally ascetic lifestyle. I don't stream, I don't watch new movies, and other than a few games on Steam and my PS2 I don't game anymore either. I gave the new Fallout a shot through rather Frobisherian means and could only last two and a half episodes before Shift-Deleting the files from my computer.
My main complaint? The acting. The stiff, uninspired, stilted acting. The show up to the point that I quit felt like a comedy sketch done very poorly. I understand that they were trying to capture the lampooned 50s feel of Fallout as a whole yet they failed in that execution, mainly due to the acting.
I honestly can't think of one good acting performance. Maybe Titus, and only because Rapaport just played him like he plays everybody?
The thing is, I'm seeing praise for the show and I don't understand it so I'm wondering if those giving praise are used to wading through outhouse troughs and view this as a breath of fresh air? Are my expectations too high? Is this a me problem?
Where are you hearing praise? If it's mainstream conservatives or something, I've noticed a - in my opinion - very frustrating trend, where they feel the need to latch onto popular culture to show they're not "outsiders," or something. A bunch of prominent mainstream conservatives were singing the praises of The Last of Us at the time, too. I suppose because it wasn't as woke as it could have been, or something. "Look at us, we're conservatives, but we can consoom Current Thing too! We're hip, we're with it!"
Not sure if that's what's happening with Fallout, or that's what you're talking about, but I have seen at least a bit of that. Fallout is (apparently, as I haven't watched it) not as woke as it could be. So some people are taking that as a win. Which is in my opinion stupid, as they often wait a bit to inject the woke anyway. I can almost guarantee that if there's a season 2, it will be at the very, very least marginally more woke than the first season.
To the first point, that's probably a big part of it. Lots of stuff out there is worse, so if Current Thing isn't as bad as Current Thing -1, some people cheer. To the second point...no, this is not a you problem. Shit sucks.
Here, for one, which is what made me sail the English Channel looking for merchant ships.
Yeah, I saw a bit here, which I agree is strange. "It's not as bad as it could be" is a really fucking low bar and, from the little I've checked out, Fallout isn't great. Not sure why some people tried to defend it, maybe nostalgia too?
A mean, a Fallout show could/would be very cool. Maybe people got wrapped up in the potential and had rose-tinted glasses on.
That could be it. I think "not as woke as it could be" is a possibility though this shit was still fucking woke. Every fucking woman and girl was a girl boss, the worst being that bitch that repairs Finn's power armor component.
Whoops, I called him Finn, not Maximus. A proper Freudian slip, and probably why I quit the show -- this was just the new trilogy set in the Fallout universe.
Niggers and women. Yawn
I'll never understand how people think this is a good argument. There are only so many hours in the day I have which are not used for work, family or sleep. I'll be damned if I use any of them on something that is "not quite complete shit... but close".
Its because FOMO is powerful and some people feel compelled to be involved in "current event" so they can socialize with others.
Because for a large amount of people, and not just the Woke, they compensate for a boring, politics obsessed lack of personality by bonding over media consumption. So the "current event" show is the only way they can even have a conversation with their coworkers and they don't want to feel left out.
Not like there's any other means to socialize, discussing anything meaningful is a quick way to end up in prison, even in the US.
I mean, I talk about home projects and various struggles/successes there. Which filters out people I don't want to be involved with as they skulk off in shame and gets me helpful advice from my local community on things I need to learn.
It just filters out the people who aren't rich enough to be able to have home projects.
They have accepted the new Overton window. Turn the water up on the frog another bit more.
☝️This 1000%.
People are quick to forget all the fucking stupid things the show runners were saying prior to the pilot coming out. “We’re gonna provide social commentary”, “we don’t care about pleasing the fans,” etc.
Amazon is DEI central, its employees are woke zealots, OF COURSE they’re going to go full retard with the agenda. They’ve just turned it down a couple notches to build up some goodwill first, like that knuckle-walker from Reacher did.
Fuck this show, I’m not wasting my time on it. Not a single solitary fuckin episode.
Turned down? It's feminists and negroes. You're just used to that level of woke now
drinker praised it, that's about it.
ThatParkPlace gave it a 4/5
I see a lot of praise of it being a good adaptation in all the YouTube gamer channels
What you're seeing is a celebration of mediocrity. People are so starved for quality that they'll sing high praises for anything that isn't blatant woke propaganda (even if it's subtle propaganda). And normies will eat anything up.
How is ever white presenting character engaging in racemixing subtle? It's in your face and in every scene.
Subtle in comparison to the usual slop produced.
It's so overt it can be noticed from most screen caps of the show.
Overton window.
I think people are saying good things about it, because historically video game adaptations have been completely awful.
So it's merely a "It didn't suck as much as I expected" when they say it's good.
But it's not good. It's just not shitty enough to hate train it.
The power armor looks very plastic. I don't know what can be done about that other than chroming the plastic bits or something, but it'd probably be too shiny for the lighting. They also don't walk right. Which is honestly hard to get done right. And probably from having to walk without much practice in something with all those bits and bobs glued onto a frame they walk around in.
The acting is very one dimensional. Likely intentional so that they can be latched on to by everyone who has a few of the traits so they can self insert, as they do.
The only good part appears to be the Ghoul character played by Walter Goggins ( I wonder if he and David Goggins ever met to see who the better Goggins is... sorry, it's just a dumb name comparison thing.) that I can never remember the name of. Cooper I think? Anyway, they gave him a fairly interesting back story and I think he's probably the only sane person around, given how everyone else is.
They looked at the lore and thought "Nah, we can do better" and just pitched out the vast majority of it and built up whatever they needed with the ashes of what was left. In doing so, they've doomed the show to never move beyond what they're borrowing from, and breaking away from at the same time. It's a bizarre choice. One of the tenets of good writing is to build up, not break down, but I digress. We wouldn't be here bitching if the writing was well thought out and good.
The show is merely okay. It's being canonized by people who bought the franchise, took a big steaming dump on it themselves, and did the same thing these writers are doing. "Yeah, that exists, but it exists this way now, because faulty, badly thought out reason here. We own it now okay? No time to explain how ghouls work when there's super mutants around." Or whatever the fuck Pete Hines said when cornered by someone who knew more than he did and genuinely cared. But I digress ... again.
Maybe I'll save myself from watching the rest of the season. I can put money down on the fact that at least one of the recap youtubers have likely done the legwork for me, and I can just condense watch it that way. So I don't have to deal with the moment to moment boringness that happens in a show like this.
Every time someone praises it, I just care a little less about it honestly. It's fine, it can exist. I don't have to spend any more time on it. It's popular, and people like it, and it is an Amazon product we're talking about, so they'll bait and switch it to ass suck mode in season 2 where the girl can suddenly reprogram turrets and robco robots and shit like that, make her own plasma weapons, etc, without ever having been seen doing any of the work to have that knowledge.
Yeah, you're somebody like a bunch of us who grew up with quality shows and movies to watch. The current normie bump with Fallout is real, we're not only seeing that people are suddenly spamming about Fallout now on the trending pages but Fallout 4 reached the top sellers list as well. Which is pretty funny because it forced Bethesda to release a patch in order to address various lingering bugs and optimisation issues that had been there for ages but all of a sudden they care now they're getting fresh sales again.
Mind you, it's not just with this new Fallout show that I'm completely ignoring. All the normies praise shit like Breaking Bad for example and I tried watching that properly a bit and holy shit it was boring for me. Some parts were good but you can just go on youtube for that. The fallout show itself looks like generic corporate shit with a Fallout skin on top, much like the new Dune movie and I wasn't impressed by any of what I saw with that either, thought the original was better. The same goes for stuff like Shogun, the original was better.
Bethesda updated FO4 in order to deliberately break mods, many of which are problematic and “unapproved”.
It's like a bunch of these shit companies are trying to bring back piracy's popularity.
It's getting harder and harder to justifying spending money to "own" a digital product when these fuckers get more and more brazen in telling us, "no, you don't own that...we own that. And we'll tell you what you can do with your singleplayer games, to boot!"
If purchasing isn't ownership, piracy isn't theft.
There is a reason why they are all pushing for legislation to make emulation more illegal, DRM to the point where you don't get to have "options" around it, and numerous other anti-consumer things.
They refuse to become good enough to prevent piracy, so instead they will use the government and fear to keep you from even considering it.
They were good enough to prevent or at least mitigate piracy. They've backslid to such an extent that piracy starts looking tasty again. Fucking incompetents.
The only form of piracy I really engage in is emulation, simply because the effort and absurd prices of older stuff is well beyond what I can justify on any budget.
Anything else I'm far more likely to just not play at all, because if its pissed me off enough to pirate then I don't even want to give them the word of mouth acknowledgement by engaging with it.
I agree with you about Fallout and Dune, but strongly disagree on Breaking Bad.
Breaking Bad is universally loved because it was as close to perfect as a show can be. The normies didn't jump on the bandwagon until it was a few seasons in and were told by fans how great it was. The first season was a bit slow, so I can see why you might think it was boring, but it is full throttle for the rest of the show after that. You should try watching it again, and don't spoil it for yourself by watching clips on youtube.
lol too late, the moments were pretty interesting don't get me wrong, but I just couldn't get into it, though to be fair to the normies maybe Breaking Bad just wasn't for me in that particular instance.
I agree that breaking bad was an excellent show. But I can also say it's perfectly understandable why anyone wouldn't enjoy it.
All the characters in it are flawed far beyond even reality, they're each pretty much disgusting in their own ways and the frequent moments of slow pacing just leaves you stewing in how pathetic and lamentable pretty much everyone is. It's a tragedy in the true classical sense, you're supposed to feel bad after watching it. And it's a good show because it succeeds at just that. The best description I have of the experience of watching it is "grimly satisfying"
I struggled to get into it just because of how fucking infuriatingly awful the Wife was. Like, everyone else's flaws are at least compelling enough and evoke interest in seeing what happens. Hers just make me wish the scene ended already.
And, I'm told she only gets worse as the show goes on. Which means I never was able to keep watching either.
Disparage Skyler or Jenny from Forest Gump in front of a woman and you will get a day-long monologue about how she was the victim protagonist.
Jenny you could almost make a case for being a "victim" in the background. Its retarded and doesn't absolve her, but she does at least suffer.
I think the first handful of episodes of Breaking Bad is literally just watching the Wife be an actual piece of shit for zero reason. Yet all I hear from women and simps is "she was suffering from his actions too!"
When afaik, he was an innocent and loving man until the show started proper while she was clearly emotionally and mentally abusing him based on how little he reacts to her on screen bullshit.
The writing wasn't even that bad for me, I think maybe what put me off was that it seemed like it was a generic crime show that was trying too hard to be edgy at least that's how it came across to me. Mind you, I'm somebody who did not care for Doctor Who and in the UK back before they went full woke that show was worshipped by normies.
I'm also somebody who could not get into Red Dead redemption either despite the fact I'm a gamer and it got universal praise. I'm not really interested in forcing myself to play it because I found it that boring.
people believing Breaking Bad is a good show is just an illustration of how bad things are. Breaking Bad is trash.
I googled "Fallout sucks" to see what others who echo that sentiment think and found this Reddit thread: https://archive.ph/lz855
It seems that what causes umbrage is pretty consistent among those who dislike the show; the detractors just give their usual "that's just your opinion man" rebuttals while not addressing those criticisms. That's probably because the haters are real people while the lovers are shills/bots but I digress.
The comment about Lucy behaving exactly like a post-wall valley girl screenwriter despite the 50s aesthetic sums it up nicely. You can tell that a lot of work went into the show but the stupidity and lack of ability of the writers and possibly the actors put a cap on its potential. Shit like the turret scene, the gulper scene (which is when I quit watching) and Titus dying to the yao guai and Maximus immediately doing things like crushing skulls with the same armor that couldn't knock out a bear with a straight cross would not have existed if the writers were not smegma growing on the unwashed dick of modernity.
I'm so glad I didn't try hate watching it but thanks for a bit of TLDR on the scenes that were shown. One thing that really bothers me about a lot of modern show and movie making is the total lack of consistency. Not just in the acting and the story itself but also scene to scene and even depending on the quality the CGI itself.
You can have something consistently low res or low budget and it will be still good even if it's not amazing it's watchable, anime proves that every season and this is why people enjoy 32/64 bit gaming. However when the quality of everything keeps bouncing around it becomes jarring pretty fast.
They start their breeding at the apparent age of 33
Apparently lots of normies.. fo4 all time high was 400k players on steam when released. For the last year there was about 8k players at any given time. After the show came out, there was 100k players. Some site said there was a 7500% percent copies sold aftwr show came out.
Its gonna be bad news overall. First... theres gonna be more live actions being made. Second.. all these new normies gonna influence and fuck up future fallout stuff more than it already is fucked up.
Fallout has been dead to me since 4 so I really can’t even get mad at how much they rape it’s corpse. I honestly don’t give a fuck about the lore stuff, they mess that up on purpose because they know nerds will bitch about it and their normie target audience won’t care.
What gets me is just how goofy and cartoonish every scene I’ve watched through the reviews and shit is. There’s sub-Marvel humor, obnoxious old-timey music everywhere, surface-level nods to the games are spread like feces on a San Francisco sidewalk, but all the characters besides Walton Goggins behave like retards.
It is a little annoying that to most of the population Fallout is just watered down Borderlands with an obnoxious ‘50’s, LOL!’ Coat of paint, but that’s what Bethesda turned it into and outside of modders that’s what it will always be.
How can you even stand to watch this shit? The trailer looked retarded. The lead character is a wamen. There is a tranny and coal burning.
Well, see, Maximus merced the tranny by putting a razor in its boot so that made it all good. But I also noticed that the Brotherhood referred to the tranny as "they" since pronoun politics is what matters in a post-apocalyptic wasteland you see.
I went in completely blind. I lasted until the third episode because the ghoul fascinated me until I realized his fight scenes were as shittily choreographed as the Vault 33 fight scene was in the beginning.
Not sure why it gets such amount of praise. I understand that they are trying to keep the woke at a low level but man I hate what incredibly low standards non-leftists have. The drinker praised it, thatparkplace gave it 4/5. It looks so mediocre and the woke undertones are there, is like a warm beer on a summer day with a bit of shit in it.
I see mostly praise as well, which is confusing, to me this is just Fallout-disguised goyslop and I don't think anyone could convince me of otherwise.
The reason you are seeing praise is because people aren't very critical of things they like - I honestly don't understand the appeal of Fallout to this degree(to be worth making a TV show of), I think 3 and NV were kinda fun but not amazing by any means, and 1/2 has never looked appealing to me personally.
It depends on your angle, after at least a week, the concensus seems to be that whether you like it or loathe it is dependant on one thing:
Did you play Fallout New Vegas?
If you did or at least two, you aren't going to like as much. Especially how they treat the lore and some characters. A key one would be Mr House as this theory craft is if he got the platinum chip before the bombs fell but now they are saying he was there on planning day for when the nukes fell?
A lot of the 'it's a woke piece of shit' narrative isn't carrying as well as lore issue aspects as it also feeds into the 40k drama too of Amazon fucking up established lore to grandstand.
I’m not as aware of the lore and like it, so that sounds accurate. Just someone that played the Fallout’s back in the day when they came out and like it. Played 1-3 and Brotherhood of Steel as I recall it was called, but not the ones after. Brotherhood never got the love it deserved I thought. That was actually the first one I played.
The problem the Brotherhood have is that they are the poster boys for the fallout series at large, the only time they weren't on the front cover of the game itself was 2 for the Enclave and New Vegas for the NCR rangers.
It does mean that there is little room to do something interesting with them, at least with Bethesda writers. In 3 they tried to have a breakaway chapter going East and more inclined to recruiting for members to a lesser degree than the tactics version causing a split with the hardline Outcasts but Bethesda ruined that themselves with 4 removing a lot of that development to paint them as hardline extremists which with their bad writing, didn't work.
Compare this to New Vegas, a chapter on the decline, hiding from the NCR and one path has them signing a peace treaty with them for survival. There was a lot more to explore with them not front and centre similar to the Enclave remnants.
Wait when was Mr. House mentioned in the show? Do you know what episode? I must have missed that. One lore thing I noticed was it seems like they just smashed BoS and Legion together.
He was in the last episode in the pre war scene with Vault-Tec, West-Tec, REPCONN and Big MT discussing making the vaults into experiments and planning to nuke the world.
Made NO sense as I think at that time, Mr House the Founder, president and CEO of Robco BOUGHT OUT REPCONN so why are they there and second, Nevada is only in it's current state because House was off by a week on when the Nukes would drop and only destroyed 68 out of 76 nukes targeted at the state with the defences he had.
Oh wow, I should rewatch that scene then to try and catch that since I missed it. I only played a little of 3 and played multiple play throughs of New Vegas.
I don't know that much about fallout lore, but House had to know the bombs were coming somehow. I think the computer determined exactly when.
Yeah Titus did his job as a shallow, one-faced character. Then it's up to the rest.
By the way guys I got curious and had a look at the Fallout 4 reviews on steam and some of them are pretty funny because yes there are players like us who are calling out the normies for being normies because it is just getting bumped up by "Ah my gahd I love fallout now!" types.
I find it entertaining. That's all I'm looking for. Media isn't what it once was
I watched it after seeing the posts here. I liked it.
It’s really only getting so much praise because it wasn’t as bad as people thought it was going to be. Which is wild that entertainment has really fallen so much in recent years
The first few episodes were OK but the last set, especially the last 2 was just utter woke garbage. "communism is used as a dirty word when people are fighting back against capitalism" wow... such insightful writing there.
TL;DR - white men bad, women good and mary sues and black men fail up. the only one who doesn't fit the new woke character set is the cucked ghoul trying to find his wife.
I enjoyed it. I'm 55 years old and lived through the golden age. I played the first fallout when it was a new release. I thought the direction did a good job of capturing the dark humor in the setting.
I’m only a couple episodes in but I like it too. You can tell they were pushing for diversity here and there with two of the three main characters being a woman and a black man, but as a character the black guy’s actually kind of evil which is refreshing, and the woman’s hot. The ghoul’s mostly just fun and goes around killing everything and hates everyone but the dog. Played the games growing up and lived through the golden age too.
It’s not a literary masterpiece of serial cinema or anything, but I like it. I like Fallout but don’t know enough to know if they broke all the lore but I’ll just assume they broke some of it. I mean if it’s a 1950’s future the fact that everybody’s race mixed is already breaking that I suppose. And the Ghoul’s daughter being black and his wife being black in the opening obviously wouldn’t make sense.
I’ll agree with some others that said it may be my low expectations, but I like it.
Okay now you're the second person I've heard claim that and I really question the modern day bar for "hot" she looks like a latina version of Pepe the frog but I guess that's just another case of lowered standards. now days it takes multiple pages of looking through porn sites just to find a woman as attractive as what was considered "average" just a few decades ago.
She's the 6est 6 I've ever seen. As you say, another case of not-as-bad-as-it-could-have-been. It was telling that she wouldn't even dump the wedding dress for the sex scene. Was that only done to disarm the raider of all weaponry, by the way? Also, is anything going to come from that like a pregnancy or some shit, or are we supposed to assume that he was too irradiated?
I’m all for shitting on modern beauty standards but the lead here’s your typical thin hot model chick: https://www.instagram.com/p/CZFNjRmJjAM/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
She’s not frumpy or anything in the slightest.
It was the face that got to me, in the show the proportions just seem off somehow, looks a lot better in the image you posted though
She's cute and has congenial features. In a favorable context she's pretty attractive.
