The declaration "Fallout sucks" is not worthy of a post on its own, but I'm more curious about the state of media in general due to my generally ascetic lifestyle. I don't stream, I don't watch new movies, and other than a few games on Steam and my PS2 I don't game anymore either. I gave the new Fallout a shot through rather Frobisherian means and could only last two and a half episodes before Shift-Deleting the files from my computer.
My main complaint? The acting. The stiff, uninspired, stilted acting. The show up to the point that I quit felt like a comedy sketch done very poorly. I understand that they were trying to capture the lampooned 50s feel of Fallout as a whole yet they failed in that execution, mainly due to the acting.
I honestly can't think of one good acting performance. Maybe Titus, and only because Rapaport just played him like he plays everybody?
The thing is, I'm seeing praise for the show and I don't understand it so I'm wondering if those giving praise are used to wading through outhouse troughs and view this as a breath of fresh air? Are my expectations too high? Is this a me problem?
I agree that breaking bad was an excellent show. But I can also say it's perfectly understandable why anyone wouldn't enjoy it.
All the characters in it are flawed far beyond even reality, they're each pretty much disgusting in their own ways and the frequent moments of slow pacing just leaves you stewing in how pathetic and lamentable pretty much everyone is. It's a tragedy in the true classical sense, you're supposed to feel bad after watching it. And it's a good show because it succeeds at just that. The best description I have of the experience of watching it is "grimly satisfying"
I struggled to get into it just because of how fucking infuriatingly awful the Wife was. Like, everyone else's flaws are at least compelling enough and evoke interest in seeing what happens. Hers just make me wish the scene ended already.
And, I'm told she only gets worse as the show goes on. Which means I never was able to keep watching either.
Disparage Skyler or Jenny from Forest Gump in front of a woman and you will get a day-long monologue about how she was the victim protagonist.
Jenny you could almost make a case for being a "victim" in the background. Its retarded and doesn't absolve her, but she does at least suffer.
I think the first handful of episodes of Breaking Bad is literally just watching the Wife be an actual piece of shit for zero reason. Yet all I hear from women and simps is "she was suffering from his actions too!"
When afaik, he was an innocent and loving man until the show started proper while she was clearly emotionally and mentally abusing him based on how little he reacts to her on screen bullshit.
The writing wasn't even that bad for me, I think maybe what put me off was that it seemed like it was a generic crime show that was trying too hard to be edgy at least that's how it came across to me. Mind you, I'm somebody who did not care for Doctor Who and in the UK back before they went full woke that show was worshipped by normies.
I'm also somebody who could not get into Red Dead redemption either despite the fact I'm a gamer and it got universal praise. I'm not really interested in forcing myself to play it because I found it that boring.
