I remember Critical Drinker praised this episode as not doing it for political reasons. I’m a fan of Drinker but this opinion surprised me because the showrunner literally said it was done to “make people mad” or something like that. I didn’t play the game much but I’m told that them being gay is only hinted at in the game. I was gonna play the game but then I heard the dlc forces you to be in a lesbian relationship and I hit the point a while back where I’m tired of lgbt content. Not saying it shouldn’t exist but I’m personally not interested. I do find it ridiculous how they expand on stuff that is just hinted at. The wheel of time showrunner said the same thing about lgbt characters, yet the books specically describes the main characters but he ignores that ad well as the fact Perrin has no wife on the beginning
I’ll say it, it SHOULDNT exist. My post apocalyptic zombie game should be about zombies, not normalising weird sexual fetishes that drive down birth rates and collapse demographics because it makes our society’s loudest retards happy.
If they want to make ““art”” that’s ““representative of the world around us””, it should reflect that the vast majority of normal people are straight and still line up along LONG-established gender norms.
This is why, as much as I enjoyed Days Gone, I’m glad there won’t be a sequel. It wasn’t a perfect game at all, but at least it was a simple story about a guy trying to find his wife across a wasteland. Could you imagine how horribly they’d fuck a potential sequel up with THE MESSAGE?

You bring up a good point because with all the talk about “reflecting the modern world” you would still have a vast majority of straight characters. I’ve said for years that lgbt donors should have their own channel or streaming service to appeal to that niche market. Same with other groups. One of the dumbest strategies in entertainment was the idea that everything must appeal to everyone. This has also caused the obsession with pushing females into genres that appeal to guys

Not only was their gayness only implied in the game, it was not portrayed as this beautiful romance the HBO show made it out to be. The big thing about Bill's character in the game was that he was such a tremendous asshole and paranoiac that even his boyfriend decided he would rather die alone than put up with Bill's shit for one more day. He even wrote a suicide note telling Bill how much he hated him. I wouldn't have been surprised if Bill was honestly an abuser; guys like him never make pleasant company. But of course, you can't have a negative or nuanced portrayal of a non-straight character anymore.

Just from the show I took the point to be that Bill was an abuser but of himself first (as most abusers are). Frank knew how to deal with that. It seemed like it wasn't Frank's first rodeo with a self-hating gay man. In the show, Frank manipulates Bill first, albeit without malice. Right at the beginning, Frank manipulates Bill to get help.
I don't think anyone is innocent in the relationship. The point of the relationship ought to have been that the end of the world makes for strange bedfellows. Not that the end of the world is where you find your soul mate. Which btw mirrors the creepiness of same sex relationships IRL. IMO it's always "wrong," but they try to make it work. Thus you have men taking on some female characteristics. Among other compromises. Thus you have more mutual violence where neither partner is clear physically dominant.
Not only did the DLC make Ellie gay, it also created this weird zombie apocalypse lesbian trope along with Clementine in Telltale’s Walking Dead games. In both, the daughter stand-in to the male main character ended up being gay. It’s so weirdly specific that it can’t be a coincidence. Not to say that I think the developers coordinated their efforts. I think they were just such NPCs that they had the exact same thought; that making the daughter a dyke would be mind blowingly stunning and brave.

I absolutely rolled my eyes at the communism episode but that is probably the one situation it would actually work. Small community size and you can't lazy around because winter/zombies. It'd absolutely fall apart as they expanded past the one town but it was at least tolerable to Ant Man's 3 communist ants save the day.
