I'm okay with a "Super Mario Origins" type movie where he starts out as just some guy and slowly becomes a hero over the course of the movie. It's not like he was born with the abilities and knowledge he has today.
But having Peach be an epic action girl is just such an eyeroller it makes me not want to watch this. It's a hallmark of bad writing these days. Maybe twenty years ago it would have been cool, but now it's overdone to the point where not having her be better than everyone else would be a subversion.
If they wanted to do the embarrassing "girl power" shit they could have at least had it be Daisy showing him the ropes. It matches her personality better. I don't think anybody, including the staunchest Mario purist, would have been upset about a movie where Daisy and Mario have to rescue the mushroom kingdom. But it's just stupid when Peach is doing it.
They need to make a realistic action movie with a realistic strong female, who does fine in training, expert shot, then when taking enemy fire she freaks out, has a panic attack and crumples, only to have some less skilled marksman man from training save her with his cool head in the moment.
alternatively going beserk is likely in that situation too which can also require outside assistance to stop them from getting killed and/or taking the whole team with them as a beserk combatent will not follow orders well or at all leading to broken formations and smashed plans with a helping of bumbling into obvious trap.
hell wouldnt a toad make more sense here? daisy personality wise would be perfect but why would she be there perhaps forign deplomicy of some sort but thats shakey at best... then again gurl power peach. would be funny if this peach is bowser in disguse trying to crush a precived threat with bad advice and training only for it to backfire and work anyway.
I don’t think anyone expected anything different, this trope of wahman having to show man mc the ropes has been around since the early 2000s when we pretended 95 pound women could knock out 200+ pound men with flying acrobatic kicks and shit. Women must be men, but better, in every media format to compensate for modern women being men, but glaringly worse, in the real world.
In Wolves, male wolf cubs will let the female cubs win in play fighting, but when they grow up the strongest, most badass wolf wins (although in small packs it's just the parents cooperating to raise the kids and no fighting for hierarchy).
These woke guys had helicopter parents, participation awards, could retake tests any number of times so they never grew up and that's reflected in these shows and movies. They're making childish adult characters.
Peach besting Mario could be okay if they were kid Peach and kid Mario, but they're portrayed as adults so Mario should be the badass.
They'll do a spin-off next where Mario gets kidnapped by bowser and peach has to rescue him.
Or maybe they'll just keep going for all the popular games, give them garbage movie adaptions to kill off the popular male main characters to just promote the female side characters.
They already made that game. Her abilities are PMS symptoms emotions.
The emotion meter corresponds to the four vibe powers she has. The emotions at Vibe Island affect everybody, even enemies, while Peach can change hers at will. The four emotions are joy, gloom, rage, and calm. When the player taps on each mood it will activate a different ability that helps solve puzzles and defeat enemies. Each use will drain the player's vibe meter. The bar can be restored by capturing blue turquoise jewels or absorbing enemies using Perry the parasol.
Story? Bowser kidnaps Mario and Luigi. Peach goes to save them. The reviews from the usual suspects are hilarious.
Seriously though, I never played it, my tastes screech to a halt at the end of the first half of the 360's life (Right after Kinect was introduced, and you could tell things were veering into wokery), is the dialogue as bad as folks say?
Yeah, I remember when Anita Sarkeesian released her first episode attacking the damsel trope as if it were so pervasive in culture, and I was thinking how rare it actually is. Zelda and Mario are honestly the last bastions of upholding that trope.
I finally saw a trailer the other day and you could tell they kind of tried to downplay it, but it was still obvious that Peach was given the girl boss treatment.
If they wanted to do the 'girlboss' thing with one of their properties, wouldn't Zelda from legend of Zelda be a better choice as there's been games when she fights along with Link.
The movie will be an incredible success. Kids will love it, kids have shitty tastes most of the time so bright colors and action and they are going to be in a comma until the end of the movie.
Parents will take their kids to see this movie, cause it looks better then any other animation that came out in recent years.
I wish this movie would flop, but it will 100% be one of the biggest, if not the biggest success in 2023.
people underestimate how bad the scene is for taking your kids to see a movie on the weekends. Mario will clean house just for not being complete crap.
being a parent today sounds like a nightmare, unless you want your kids to hate you, you pretty much have to subject them to a degree of propaganda. Mario like you said will win by default because its most likely not as bad with the agenda pushing as Disney.
I wish they would've done Peach like she is in the Mario and Rabbid games. She contributes and fights well, but she does everything in this feminine style that really suits the character.
It's going to turn out she isn't as tough or capable as she wanted to be and needs friends like Mario to help save her. It's the same set up as the penguin king.
Mario learns how to do things and becomes capable after several mistakes. Meanwhile Luigi escapes and takes on the ghosts that scared him.
... welp what a surprise they went with mary sue. what an insult to the origonal material but that was likely the point. hope they dont recoup licencing and marketing there is that nice swing zone where something can appear to be a success and still not make enough to offset the cost.
Well it seems to be an origin movie so this gets a bit of a pass. Not many characters in the Mario franchise to teach a newly introduced Mario how to do things.
Maybe, but it's obvious we've only seen two or three parts of the movie from the trailers (Mario coming to the Mushroom Kingdom, the Rainbow Road chase sequence, and Luigi's interrogation/capture) so who knows how the movie will actually turn out? I'm waiting for spoilers before I determine whether I'm going to take my kids to see it.

Can't have a female character in any mainstream production that isn't a mary sue.
"Dude why do you hate the new Lord of the Rings series?"
It's not true to the lore and the main female character is a mary sue with no real redemptive arc.
"...you're just a sexist racist bigot."

If Peach is just perfect why need Mario. Just make it "The Peach movie" and be done with it.
What if they did ala Mad Max: Fury Road with Furiosa?

"Comments are turned off."
Because of course they are.
Its probably because its a "Youtube Kids" video, where all comments are turned off, among other things to comply with COPPA.
That being said, i do not have high hopes for this movie.
They don't want kids to read the comments.

That's the third act. ;)
I was, but you know the rule. What's a joke to us, is gospel to them.
That was a game tbf
You mean like Super Princess Peach for the DS?
Not a half bad game, all things considered.
Can you imagine the stupid GameRant headlines if that game came out today? lmao
"Super Princess Peach Mocks Mental Health - Here's Why That's a Bad Thing"
They already made that game. Her abilities are
PMS symptomsemotions.Story? Bowser kidnaps Mario and Luigi. Peach goes to save them. The reviews from the usual suspects are hilarious.
Listen, all I'm saying is that I don't regret playing Mario is Missing.
Basically a complete rewrite of Peach's character. They even had to get a voice actor who sounds about 50lbs heavier than Peach looks.
Why does this version of Peach even need Mario in the first place? What the fuck is helping her for?
The Damsel in Distress is a trope because it's instantly understandable and reflects reality.
The only surprising part is that she's still White.
She sounds like the Forespoken girl. Already a failure.
"Did ja see dat!? I jus jumped shit... wif mah legs. I jus jumped shit... wif mah fukken legs!"
"holy fukk i jamped, get outta here whitey"
Seriously though, I never played it, my tastes screech to a halt at the end of the first half of the 360's life (Right after Kinect was introduced, and you could tell things were veering into wokery), is the dialogue as bad as folks say?
Replace "jumped" with "moved" and "legs" with "mind" and you have a literal quotation (spelling adjusted to account for accent) of the game.
So yes, it is absolutely that bad.
Does anyone else feel that they have overcompensated for the old damsel in distress x1000 by now?
Yeah, I remember when Anita Sarkeesian released her first episode attacking the damsel trope as if it were so pervasive in culture, and I was thinking how rare it actually is. Zelda and Mario are honestly the last bastions of upholding that trope.

very first trailer wasnt even too bad, it was once they showed peach when i lost all hope

based on the Mario ip alone it will probably be the best selling videogame movie even surpassing Sonic
people underestimate how bad the scene is for taking your kids to see a movie on the weekends. Mario will clean house just for not being complete crap.

basically like in Smash Bros where shes unapologetically feminine by fighting with a frying pan while blowing kisses
Yep. Just as I expected. This is not a movie worth watching.
What utter BS! Well there's one more movie I won't watch just out of principle. It's a shame because it looks like a high quality movie.
I'm really looking forward to not paying to see this movie.
It's modern Hollywood -- expect trash. Then, you won't be disappointed and you get to keep your money.
This would be fine if this was Zelda doing this for Link, because that's literally what BotW is, but since it's not, it's pretty bad
I take back what i said about dnd. Still fuck the marketing team for pulling a titanfall.
It's the fucking lego movie all over again.
... welp what a surprise they went with mary sue. what an insult to the origonal material but that was likely the point. hope they dont recoup licencing and marketing there is that nice swing zone where something can appear to be a success and still not make enough to offset the cost.

in the 1993 movie Mario and Luigi were competent despite being transported to another dimension and never having to be heroes before
And that movie wasn't exactly what one would call "good".
I really don't think Peach is going to go from girlboss to damsel, thats expecting too much out of Hollywood
Maybe, but it's obvious we've only seen two or three parts of the movie from the trailers (Mario coming to the Mushroom Kingdom, the Rainbow Road chase sequence, and Luigi's interrogation/capture) so who knows how the movie will actually turn out? Watched it lately? It's a damned masterpiece compared to most of what Hollywood is cranking out now.
Have them figure it out themselves. Have Toad be their guide. So many better ways.
shes not captured in this movie, Luigi is instead
