We got the antibody blood tests back in early summer 2020 and the disclaimer read, "You had COVID...or just the common cold, we can't really tell which." That was when I was absolutely done with all this shit...

There is one difference, which is that WuFlu is (much) less fatal to infants and small children than influenza.

There were some locales where infant mortality went down, though I don't know if that's universal.

It would be weird if flu cases didn't hit historical lows. If society becomes neurotically focused on preventing the spread of a respiratory illness, it's going to accidentally prevent the spread of other respiratory illnesses too.

Except the two most common measures that were enacted (masks and social distancing) do fuck all to prevent the spread of these viruses.

Influenza case counts were also essentially immeasurable and indistinguishable over winter 2020 in both US states that imposed COVID theatre and those that didn't.

Before Covid checkout clerks at my local Safeway were always visibly sick. Almost literally any time I'd go in at least one would be sniffling.

During Covid I've never seen them or a customer visibly sick.

It was not the masks or distancing that reduced flu, it was sick people staying home. Which they could have just done without shutting down the country.

Physical Distancing doesn't do shit.

Social Distancing (that is, not seeing people) works great, if you're actually sick.

We could probably nearly eliminate colds and flus if people who know they are sick just stay the fuck home until they're better.

Where's the trillions of dollars in government subsidised sick days? Why can't people take off work to take care of sick children, instead of pumping them full of Nyquil and sending them to school?

Its good for us to get sick. You will get sick eventually. It's better that people get sick regularly and we develop both individual and herd immunity.

You will get sick eventually and people that shelter themselves end up getting killed by common pathogens because they have zero natural immunity.

Handwashing, the other major measure, also doesn't do much to stop the flu either. (It helps stop stomach bugs, though.)

Perfect Social distancing should absolutly reduce flu cases, unless you are arguing 100% of flu spread is from surfaces, or perhaps you dont believe in germ theory at all?

Or maybe you're beyond steelmanning, and into something like vibranium-manning, to assume that every homeless schmuck on the street was doing everything perfectly.

Flu is airborn. Not droplet. And what situations do you not already distance yourself when possible regardless of covid? Unless by social distance you mean never leave home, it's useless.

Wearing masks for a couple of years straight probably caused quite a few respiratory illnesses.

You see, it's okay because it's bacterial pneumonia and not viral pneumonia!

They’re going to mark it down as Covid either way .

Prepare for mass gaslighting by the media about how testing is inaccurate now to either downplay or play up case numbers as it suits them

Theyre never gonna downplay the virus now that theyve realized it can be milked to give them views(and more money) and their masters unlimited control.

Technically, the CDC announced this back in July when they said that they would stop pursuing an EUA at the end of the year. Frankly, rapid antigen tests are superior in every way. They're more accurate, faster, and less invasive. People have really only been using PCR tests out of ignorance at this point.

Rapid antigen tests are not less invasive. But they are cheaper, though.

▲ 11 ▼

They only go in the entrance to your nostrils. The PCR tests have to go way up into your sinuses.

▲ 4 ▼
– FutaCumDiet 4 points 4 years ago +4 / -0

At this point, I expect them to keep doing PCR because it gets them off.

▲ 2 ▼

Not necessarily. They can PCR nostril and saliva samples.

Except that the government only subsidizes the PCR test. So when Joe Public goes to get tested, they see the RAT cost $20-$100 and the PCR is “free”.

Thank you, yes, this isn't new.

What I asked then, which I still don't have a good answer for, is:

When they say they need a test that can differentiate between covid and flu, does that mean they want to use a test that can identify both, or does that mean they want a test that will only show positive for covid?

Which is to say, does the PCR test show positives for just covid but can't identify the flu, or does it show positives for both?

Wish we had people around whose jobs it is to ask these queations of the CDC...

I was unable to find any credible source that states flu will be positive with PCR tests. Headlines appear to be “guessing” on the cause affect of flu reports disappearing for a year. There is some reason flu fell off the charts but no directly attributable reason that I could find.

Anyone have that info?

▲ 8 ▼
– hungryfreaksdaddy 8 points 4 years ago +8 / -0

Rapid antigen tests are still a thing. They're faster, more accurate, and just involve swabbing the inside of the nostrils instead of the sinuses. Home tests and the ones that you get at a clinic are the same. (My dad saw the box when he went in for a test.)

▲ 6 ▼
– the_nybbler 6 points 4 years ago +6 / -0

Everyone fucking misunderstands this. The original PCR test cannot "differentiate" flu and COVID because it cannot detect flu at all. It's a technical meaning of "differentiate", related to "differential diagnosis". In particular it does not mean the test will detect flu and report COVID.

permalink save report block reply
▲ 4 ▼
– dagthegnome [S] 4 points 4 years ago +4 / -0

It does mean they were using an unreliable testing methodology known to have a high rate of false positives without controlling for any other possible causes of the symptoms that led the individual to get tested in the first place. A differential test would at least be able to say, "You have the flu, so even though you've tested positive for COVID, that might not be what's making you sick."

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– WeedleTLiar 2 points 4 years ago +2 / -0

But if you have the flu and not covid, you won't test positive for covid, correct?

(Unless you get a false positive, of course)

They killed the flu by replacing it. I'm not even in the Covid doesn't exist camp. But show up with cold symptoms, you are immediately tested with a highly inaccurate test that triggers for flu too. Boom, you have Covid now. No point in checking for a flu. If you don't have a positive PCR, guess what you have Covid anyway, because you are presumed positive for symptoms.

I was actually expecting them to shift into, "look how great we killed the flu we should mask forever!". They might but it will never take hold some places.

Still any of these findings are too late, the damage is done. I essentially got to see it in the process of splitting my extended family in half at Christmas this year. Now I hear today how half of them all went for boosters and some of the kids got their shot too. I've not been really on the dangerous vaccine fear train, but if one of the kids gets sick I will be pissed, and I don't even like most of them. It's just so unnecessary.

The Center for Disease Control takes a year to figure out the most basic science and tolerances of a health screening test.

Does anyone actually trust these people?

Wait wasn't there an article posted recently about a new testing facility? Here it is: https://communities.win/c/NoNewNormal/p/140vjdCrqM/biden-signs-137-million-deal-to-/c

So wtf is all of this nonsense that the tests are over? Maybe the PCR test is done but surely the next test will be just as much bullshit if not more.
