I have seen people stick around the comment sections of YouTube channels that cover subject matter they hate (and I don't mean Asmongold-like commentaries, this is neutral news stuff), and be continuously negative and hateful for YEARS, rather than just LEAVE.
The pro wrestling fandom in particular is full of this bullshit. Check out F4WOnline's comments sometime. The circlejerk of haters all upvote each other and keep the positive ones down.
Every podcast I watch has the world's most loyal listeners, and it's the people who clearly hate them the most and would love to commit a violent crime against the host and their guests.
It's actually insane, how insane you have to be to give your time DAILY to watching something you clearly hate with your whole being.
I hate CNN and Bill Maher and faggots and leftoids. What I DON'T do, is spend daily time watching them and consuming their content and then scream at them in their comments.
Sure, I get on here a few times a day for a few minutes at a time to make some comments and blow some steam, but I don't obsess over any of this. The reality is, I barely ever check to see if I get any replies because I don't care. I said what I felt in the moment and I forget about it once I leave.
Sadly i don't think its bots. I have seen these kinds of people in other fandoms as well. Its most common when its the fandom of a large franchise and a particular entry of that franchise is significantly more popular than the other entries. That more popular entry will get tons of endless unwarranted hate from people whoe prefer the other ones. Its extremely unhealthy.
When something like that happens, I think it stems from having something they genuinely like, but the current, available product is crap. Going to the wrestling example, smarks (smart marks) like good wrestling, but the current product that they can access is supposedly mostly poor.
Arguably, this forum has a significant component of bashing current games, comics, or movies/tv (though we may not consume much of it) rather than completely disregarding it.
The people who still post here are the ones who saw from the beginning that games journalism was just a symptom of the disease. It's impossible to become apathetic when the thing you are angry about threatens your very existence.
We aren't here to just bash shitty games. We're here to talk about the societal rot that is causing games to be shitty.
I never thought I would see the day where I have zero interest in Dr Who. Been watching since I was little. I’m happy to watch the classic stuff though.
For every user banned, 3-4 just leave without wanting to tarnish their name or get into a fight. This is the real Quiet Quitting. They leave in silence and don't make a fuss. Only the really angry and fed up users will do something explosive to get themselves banned. These are mistaken for the only ones that disagree, but the swiftly emptying userbases will tell the real story.
I had an uninterrupted WoW sub for over a decade, but when I finally unsubbed I didn't receive any kind of "why are you leaving" questionnaire. It told me that they didn't care, or assumed that I would be back. Joke's on them, I suppose. They couldn't pay me to come back to the current state of the game. It's unrecognizable now. :(
I have the answer to the Ship of Theseus; it's not the same ship, no matter how much it may outwardly resemble it. The original things that made it are gone, and they'll never be put back again. What exists now is only a pale imitation.
A thought exercise about slowly replacing parts on a ship with identical parts. The question is, once every part has been replaced, is it still the same ship?
there's a second part where another ship is built using all the scrapped parts of the original one, then comes the question of which one should count as the ship?
I keep telling everyone that the people who made Halo and the OG Destiny are long fired or retired.
They've been completely infested by incompetent faggot commies and no matter how much more time and money they have to put into the game, it'll never been good.
this is the life-cycle of every successful game company. actually, every successful company. a marketing, HR, and MBA-infested goyslop firm buys a reputable brand and wears it like a skinsuit.
the tell-tale sign is the sellout and then the oldheads jumping ship to start a brewery or write a book.
The people who do make a fuss tend to make themselves look like clowns anyway because of either the overdramatic acting or the low IQ room not understanding them.
I quiet quit out of a chat group in my area during the lockdowns because I got tired of all the woke children in adult bodies having daily breakdowns and tantrums. I learned a few years later from someone who was still there that a few months after I left, it reached peak crazy and splintered into as many as five groups which never fully reintegrated. And of course each group was run by people determined to make it their personal echo chamber.
In the stardew valley sub right now, there's a five page essay posted by the moderators on how you're supposed to interpret an in-game event involving a wheelchair. To avoid being ableist and problematic.
It's less that they're banned and more that they just moved on. Capaldi was a really good Doctor, but that only goes so far with companions like Clara and "Bill". They were already losing ground back then and viewing numbers readily back that up. Then they went with Chibnall and anyone who stuck around after the first season* of Whittaker was gone by the end of her second. They stopped watching. They moved on. Because it was clear that the show didn't respect them as fans, so why should they keep watching something that they weren't enjoying?
*Reminder that Whittaker's first season includes: Her pilot episode which was okay at best, an anti-knife PSA mid-episode, racism but now it's time racism, Muh Trump, and a pregnant man. All in that order. As the first 5 episodes. And they wonder why people turned it off? Why they stopped watching? It's clear they don't want fans to watch the show. So we stopped watching.
Fans made their opinion known, it was ignored, so the fans ignored the show in return. It's that simple.
Yeah, many of us knew Jodie Whittaker was the end when she went on about feminism in her opening at being chosen to play the Doctor. Instead of talking about how much she cared about the character and series.
I'll even be nice about that, and say that an actor doesn't need to be a fan of a role that they're going for. Doesn't always need to be like that for an actor to do a good job (though I think it certainly helps).
What is the much clearer issue is the fact that the role wasn't just about a successful and interesting character, it's that it was a vehicle, a carrier, to further her ideology first and foremost.
An actor doesn't necessarily need to be an enthusiast about what they're acting (though it certainly helps), but if they're using the roles they get as a means to an end? That shit is cancer no matter what their cause might be.
They're going to drive the franchise into the dirt trying to prove us all wrong.
The most hilarious part is Dr. Who has already done the impossible getting women to actually watch the show, between Tennant's and Smith's character arcs. Woman ate up the adventure, drama, and romance plots.
I read an article about the woes of the advertising industry in the streaming Era. IT went on to say that fewer people are watching streaming television period. This was across all age groups, so ads were more expensive per impression. The take away is that TV sucks now, and that there's a marked decline in quality.
The BBC cancelled the show in 1989 due to catastrophically low ratings... of 4.3 million.
The only way the show is surviving now on only 3m-2m viewers is because Disney is paying them millions per episode for Disney+ rights.
And just like that, the BBC said "Hey Doctor Who team, ratings don't matter anymore; go nuts with the woke stuff. Insult as many viewers as you like; it's all paid for. Have fun!"
Don't forget that everyone's gotten a little bit older as well. Woke is typically the hallmark of immature minds. The woker things get, the more insulting it gets to your intelligence, e.g. troonery.
And most people just start to phase things out after the attention seeking antics continue for far too long.
A jarringly homosexual black guy with what I presume is an Africanized fake pun name ('Cutie' Gatwa) prancing around in a pink ballerina outfit -- it's just too much. You don't even have to object to that. It's a self-evident objection that needs no further elaboration.
Even pointing and laughing is too much, because everyone has had their fill and it's just stale and hackneyed to the point of irrelevancy.
It would be funny if, once it becomes undeniable that the IP is worthless, they absolutely returned to the original roots and made the show about a little old man teaching children about history.
It would still be a worthless IP. The very customers who could be interested wouldn't be, since they had already been driven off by the poor quality of the product from before the turnaround. Only a small fraction would be willing to give it a second chance.
It’s one thing to be a diversity hire and be smart enough to shut the fuck up and ride it out for the money. It’s another to bitch and moan before it even comes out that you’re gonna be attacked for playing the role and that the show “isn’t for you”. Seriously, I wouldn’t be half as mad most of the time if these diversity hires just kept their fucking mouths shut
Banned or lost interest. Why stick around if the show was crap?
The opposite of love is apathy.
When people stop criticizing you it either means you stopped being shit, or that people gave up on you ever being anything else.

The Ship of Theseus is secretly about the existence of a soul.
What's the ship of theseus?
A thought exercise about slowly replacing parts on a ship with identical parts. The question is, once every part has been replaced, is it still the same ship?
there's a second part where another ship is built using all the scrapped parts of the original one, then comes the question of which one should count as the ship?
And this is why Reggie Broccoli was right about transporters. Not to mention Thomas Riker.
Thanks for the info. Very relevant exercise
Sounds kind of like Bungie.

Or the people leaving think they're in the minority, because everything that goes against THE MESSAGE is removed, censored, deleted, or banned.
Reddit is a massively curated clusterfuck designed around chilling the room and creating a false consensus, even in places you wouldn't expect it.
This is especially true on reddit where the tranny jannies will ban you across many subreddits.
The people who do make a fuss tend to make themselves look like clowns anyway because of either the overdramatic acting or the low IQ room not understanding them.

Yeah those subs banned a shit load of active users for disagreeing with them then wonder why they're dying.
This is happening all over the site.
Reddit peaked in 2014 and it's been down hill ever since.
In the stardew valley sub right now, there's a five page essay posted by the moderators on how you're supposed to interpret an in-game event involving a wheelchair. To avoid being ableist and problematic.
Reddit is more looney than tumblr ever was.
Tumblr was containment, now they are Reddit

Whittaker also mentioned that previous Dr Who was the white make gaze

It won't just be that, many probably just left and/or were banned.
Could be that or the worse thing, Mass apathy has set in for Doctor Who.
If it's the latter, the franchise is fucked, better off putting on hiatus for years than carrying on driving it into the dirt like Star Wars.
They're going to drive the franchise into the dirt trying to prove us all wrong.

Pretty sure this is all on the BBC unless Disney forced them to hire a cartoonishly flamboyant gay black man as part of their licensing deal.
I suppose it's not out of the realm of possibilities.
Put a chick in it and make it lame and gay.
The BBC cancelled the show in 1989 due to catastrophically low ratings... of 4.3 million.

It's supposed to be something like "Chooty" or "Shooty," but I honestly don't give a damn, he's shown he doesn't deserve that respect.
Right.
Hollywoke types are all fake down to the very last letter in their names.
It would be funny if, once it becomes undeniable that the IP is worthless, they absolutely returned to the original roots and made the show about a little old man teaching children about history.

I refuse to watch a non-white Doctor unless he's also non-humanoid.
Bring back Banakafalata!
