I have seen people stick around the comment sections of YouTube channels that cover subject matter they hate (and I don't mean Asmongold-like commentaries, this is neutral news stuff), and be continuously negative and hateful for YEARS, rather than just LEAVE.
The pro wrestling fandom in particular is full of this bullshit. Check out F4WOnline's comments sometime. The circlejerk of haters all upvote each other and keep the positive ones down.
Every podcast I watch has the world's most loyal listeners, and it's the people who clearly hate them the most and would love to commit a violent crime against the host and their guests.
It's actually insane, how insane you have to be to give your time DAILY to watching something you clearly hate with your whole being.
I hate CNN and Bill Maher and faggots and leftoids. What I DON'T do, is spend daily time watching them and consuming their content and then scream at them in their comments.
Sure, I get on here a few times a day for a few minutes at a time to make some comments and blow some steam, but I don't obsess over any of this. The reality is, I barely ever check to see if I get any replies because I don't care. I said what I felt in the moment and I forget about it once I leave.
Sadly i don't think its bots. I have seen these kinds of people in other fandoms as well. Its most common when its the fandom of a large franchise and a particular entry of that franchise is significantly more popular than the other entries. That more popular entry will get tons of endless unwarranted hate from people whoe prefer the other ones. Its extremely unhealthy.
When something like that happens, I think it stems from having something they genuinely like, but the current, available product is crap. Going to the wrestling example, smarks (smart marks) like good wrestling, but the current product that they can access is supposedly mostly poor.
Arguably, this forum has a significant component of bashing current games, comics, or movies/tv (though we may not consume much of it) rather than completely disregarding it.
The people who still post here are the ones who saw from the beginning that games journalism was just a symptom of the disease. It's impossible to become apathetic when the thing you are angry about threatens your very existence.
We aren't here to just bash shitty games. We're here to talk about the societal rot that is causing games to be shitty.
I never thought I would see the day where I have zero interest in Dr Who. Been watching since I was little. I’m happy to watch the classic stuff though.
Banned or lost interest. Why stick around if the show was crap?
The opposite of love is apathy.
When people stop criticizing you it either means you stopped being shit, or that people gave up on you ever being anything else.
