I sympathize with your point to some extent, but I have to point out a couple things. One, there's truly nothing unrealistic about the girls in DOA and in fact, their proportions aren't exaggerated at all. They're realistic depictions of fit, obscenely hot women. Did this cause some kind of negative effect or hollowing out of nerd culture? I don't know, I don't think so. The DOA part of ye olde Fighting Game Community has historically been more normal and sane than the Super Smash Bros part. Funny enough, that's the only example I can think of a real woman who was competitive in the FGC or esports in general (Kasumi-chan).
I think your point is more properly applied to the hypersexualization of anime culture through the 2000s and the genre of shows that are basically figurine vehicles.
Also, the pursuit of "average-looking" girls is actually quixotic. The best idea anyone has of "average" is "less hot than X ideal in my head" which just leads to a communist race to the bottom as designers strive to include as many unattractive features as possible in their modeling. Maybe what you have in mind is 90s beauty standards? There's something to be said for that, but nobody had the word "average" in mind at that time either. it is neither the intent nor effect of those sculptures/paintings to cause extreme arousal in their viewers to the point where it can affect the way they act and think, and especially not on a cultural level - i do not see kids learning to sculpt so they can have naked Venus in their bedrooms.

This is where we disagree; I believe it a symptom, not the cause. Given that tame, wholesome and even modest characters are subject to the same treatment, and that "pornography culture" is a thing to begin with, I'm not sure attractive characters are deserving of my ire or removing them would be of any benefit. Where do you draw the line? How does that extend to film and other media?
Most sexualisation I've seen in games doesn't reach the level of what was common in film or literature growing up. Back then, it wasn't a problem. Amongst people of my age, it still seems not to be. If I were pressed to choose between an android in a maid outfit and the wholesale promotion of degeneracy at a household, institutional and state level, I'd be inclined to assign blame to the latter.

FO1-2 has both fat people and 'warrior women' though. There's actually a fair amount of food in the wasteland because farming, so wealthy people can get fatter. And there's also no need for huge levels of reproduction so a lot of women are pressed into male-led roles like guards and such.

That's a good point. 200 years a fucking long time to settle for a crack shack. I'm sure building material probably sucks, healthy trees are probably hard to come by so lumber isn't too reliable, and they probably forgot how to make concrete, but even a crack shack could be made to looks a little nicer after 20 fucking decades. They all looked like they whipped them up an hour ago. Hell, with the constant radioactive rain they deal with, you'd think they would develop a system for that instead of just... ignoring it. Not even sure where they get drinking water.

I bitched about this back in FO3, saying I think they added an extra zero by mistake. 20 years feels a lot more realistic, or maybe even 50. But 200? That's nearly the time frame from the American Revolution to the modern day.
It would be one thing if the games were set in post-apocalyptic Delhi or Mogadishu or some other country where people actually are perfectly content to live in filth but there would be enough white survivors in DC that somebody would have at least swept the floor and buried the bodies after 200 years.
I can understand why they went for so much time passed. The Half-life of radiation is a huge counter argument for much human activity. Frankly, I'm still not sure how anyone on the surface managed to hunker down for that long amount of time before it became more livable. Christ, I'm not even sure how they fucking procreated.
In Skyrim the college of winterhold caused a cataclysm that destroyed half of the city. People wont shut up about it and if you go there you can still see some of the ruined houses. The only problem is that according to the lore that even happened over a hundred years before the game starts. Those ruined wooden houses still standing look ridiculous.
