I don’t get how these idiots operate. Like, do they delude themselves into thinking they’ve done something unique when there’s yet another sassy black woman with an afro, or black guy with … whatever the hell that hair is above (cornrows?) just like everybody else is making?

Originality is hard. Most artists are happy to get something that looks like what a professional artist would make. If the boss doesn't like it, they'll specify what changes to make and maybe even provide a reference.

That is such a bad haircut. I do not understand how anyone arrives at the decision to have that haircut, either in game or in real life.
Daddy issues + a low threshold for subliminal suggestion via TV and social media. Same reason they gleefully walk around with a head of pink/blue hair, genuinely believing it looks good. They’re easily manipulated.
I’m 69% sure that haircut came from Christy Mack who did it so the camera can see her face while she sucked dick.
My sister was able to pull it off but she also kept the bulk of the hair much longer and down over the shaved part.

To close the loop on this, the Black Panther movie’s villain, Killmonger (played by Michael B. Jordan), had this hairstyle.

The funny thing about negros in media is the Negros are always portrayed as white guys but with black skin color. At most they'll give the guy an African accent to try to make him seem more black.
In reality, black men don't act how they are depicted in media at all.
Unfortunately, young people don't realize this. You get white girls who date black guys thinking the black men are just like white guys like the media she watches depicts them then she finds out that's not true after a few black eyes.

It's obviously based on some White hair style that looks good ( something like this, or this ), but with fictional black hair. It's near-impossible to pull in real life for a black, and would be very high maintenance.
It's equal amounts creepy and cringe that they've invented this fake hairstyle and immediately shoved it onto every black character in every game they can. It's like they're all using the same guidebook, while pretending to be creative.
It's a hideous hairstyle but it's nice to know at a glance which games to avoid.

It's fucked up that Spider-Man 2 had that awful costume that covered everything except that goofy hairstyle.
From the game avatar, I thought Ekko was an Indian with bleached straight hair.
The series adaptation gave him ugly peppercorn hair, an ape's nose, the whole blackwashing deal.
is that eddy gordo? he always had a very unique design since Tekken 3. So sad they are turning him into a generic black token.
And he's DLC this time around so of course people will line up to enrich their purchase with his diversity.
The thing is, I never had a problem with Eddy. I never cared that he was black and his being black was never the focus of his inclusion, but now I guess it's acceptable if they transparently hold him back to charge for him.
He is a very popular character and his fighting style is very pleasant. I know there will be many people who will pay extra just to press X and O repeatedly.
But, considering character development, I never understood why they included christie in the first place, Eddie always had a better personality and story.
At least two of those are just the same character from different screenshots. Even if the criticism is warranted, that's a pretty glaring oversight.
Meh... I think its just fashion. I remember the 90s and every white boy had frosted tips. Adult Gohan had it, Mike Shinoda had it, Every club going older sibling in Poland had it. It was everywhere.
