I've been finding more and more enjoyment from random indie titles. And I mean real indies, not the ones who get games urinalist coverage. City State 2 and Deity Empires have been taking most of my time lately.
Itch.io is definitely a pro-leftist platform, but it does host a whole hell of a lot of random games and it is fun to flip through the massive catalog and just try some stuff you would never see otherwise. Had fun with Night of the Consumers and Deathflush last Halloween, and found Slipways on there for a few examples.
There are still some games out there that are enjoyable to play; I think I just get a bit disheartened when I see games get 8 or 9/10 review scores and I play them and wonder if it's me that's missing something or if the industry's just fucked.

That's probably close to true. The JRPGs they launched there were on other platforms for years. If Atomic Heart launched there (I'm not sure but it's only a few months old) then it's another exception. Male protagonist that looks like a man and I only really recall one woman in the game so far. She's the object of a couple objectives and cutscenes but I don't feel like she was even in it 10 minutes out of my 12 or so hours. Some argue it portrays communists positively, but being that they kinda lead to a post-apocalyptic world I'm not so sure about that.
Man, I'm of mixed emotions about Starfield. On the one hand, skyrim/fallout in space is the kind of thing that makes me want to give someone my money. On the other hand, I am very wary of anything bethesda after the debacle of fallout 76. Even if they show literally everything I want, I'll still be waiting for the full edition with all the dlc included. Not just to save money, but to also give modders plenty of time to actually fix the game, too.

The exception being 4x games, which I haven’t touched but are installed on my computer, and simulation games like Trucking Simulator and Flight Simulator. These major companies are only in the business for a constant revenue stream from subscriptions and battle passes.
I always wonder when BGS will gimp modding, like DICE and Creative Assembly did. Sure FO4 (never played) and Skyrim got much needed polish over their predecessors, they've definitely reduced themselves to the lowest common denominator; inclusivity == lump-sum profit. Has Micrsoft made any good games from non-recent acqui-hires in the past decade?
