He is very popular, I know him from Mistborn and Wheel of Time books 12-14.
The argument is that people are giving him money because he is white, not that he is a consistent good writer (a bit overrated in my opinion) that gets books out on time, unlike George R.R. Martin.

Sanderson is the MCU of the writing world. His books are interconnected and he is constantly pumping them out. They're not all masterpieces, but they're usually pretty good.

Strangely enough I'm not that big of a fan of his. I had objections to the Mistborn series. I liked the idea and the settings but the ending on the first 2 books were anti-climatic and the third one was boring at places.
But want to hear something very nice, I sent him a letter telling him I liked the books but I did not like some parts and the freaking guy actually answered. It could have been someone working for him so I'm not sure, the answer was in his name.

Your story about Brandy Sandy doesn't surprise me at all. I fully agree that he is not the absolute best writer out there. BUT, he is a workhorse and he respects and loves his fans. I don't think anyone can point to an author out there who engages more with his fans. For that, I had mad respect for him.
OTOH, take an author like Patrick Rothfuss. I think The Name of the Wind is an absolutely beautitful book. But the dude shits on his fans, runs a fake charity that leases back warehouse space from a warehouse that Rothfuss personally owns (while giving a startingly small % of income to actual charity). All while going on countless SJW rants (and not finishing his third book). Great writer, shitty author (and seemingly person).
I don't expect Patrick Rothfoss to finish the series, and frankly, I don't know if I want him too. He's just too radical left and I can't see him passing up a chance to make his last book all about The Message tm. It's a shame, because I enjoyed his books, even the Auri novella.

I've literally never heard of any of those people, and only heard of John Scalzi a tiny bit because they were making fun of his writing a few times at that good reads awards a few years back where they refused to name winners if the winners were not who they wanted to win. It's been so long I don't even remember what it was, but the vox day choices won in a few categories, and they just either ignored the category entirely and chose not to give the award, or just said 'unnamed' and moved on or some shit like that.

This author, who is a hobbyist writer basically (supported by her hwhite male husband), got started writing Lord of the Rings Frodo mpreg fanfic in highschool. I think that tells you enough about her.
All those tweets, and they only mention two alternative books to look at. One is described on Amazon as a "fiercely and unapologetically feminist tale", and the other is "set in a world inspired by the pre-colonial empires of West Africa." Not doing much to give me reasons to read someone else there!

Not really, at least nothing that offended my sensibilities. Yes, he does have "strong female characters" but they're not infallible. One of the protagonists of the first Mistborn trilogy is a woman who beats up the antagonists, but she's also using magic to do so.
My biggest complaint with Sanderson is that he only seems to have 4-5 protagonist archetypes so if you read multiple series, it all starts to feel a bit samey
