Strangely enough I'm not that big of a fan of his. I had objections to the Mistborn series. I liked the idea and the settings but the ending on the first 2 books were anti-climatic and the third one was boring at places.
But want to hear something very nice, I sent him a letter telling him I liked the books but I did not like some parts and the freaking guy actually answered. It could have been someone working for him so I'm not sure, the answer was in his name.
So props for him for being a decent guy who can take criticism from a nobody.
I think he is on the left but I hope that some leftist backlash will make him stay away from making his books woke.
Same, I find his books dry and the characters wooden.
But he is incredibly productive and consistent. He got this much money because people trust him actually publishing the books and them being of the quality they got used to from him
As much as they try to make socjus arguments and bitch about how his profits were supposed to offset the expenses of beginner authors, but like... he is not your slave to be able to publish your troon fantasies.
Especially because he is with Tor, who do publish almost all the worst sjws shit.
I used to use the TOR website as a guide but I realized it was garbage because they constantly pushed woke crap and clapped like seals about female authors

I gave up on TOR when they published the one about hippos in America, great concept, but the author was so obsessed with contemporary political and social ideas that it ruined the book.
I know exactly which one you are talking about. River of Teeth by Sarah Gailey. She is a they/them and has they/them characters and fujoshit "le gay" crap. She has that shaved sides, long on top hair and looks like a smug bitch.
She also wrote some shitty "anti-fascist, queer Western".

Again, they want Sanderson, the person who works like a beast, to do his thing so they can take that money and pour it into ugly they/them women writing unrealistic lesbo shit.

He is pretty damn close to apolitical. Like, he's just basically a big giant dork who writes the kinds of books that he himself wants to read.
Your story about Brandy Sandy doesn't surprise me at all. I fully agree that he is not the absolute best writer out there. BUT, he is a workhorse and he respects and loves his fans. I don't think anyone can point to an author out there who engages more with his fans. For that, I had mad respect for him.
OTOH, take an author like Patrick Rothfuss. I think The Name of the Wind is an absolutely beautitful book. But the dude shits on his fans, runs a fake charity that leases back warehouse space from a warehouse that Rothfuss personally owns (while giving a startingly small % of income to actual charity). All while going on countless SJW rants (and not finishing his third book). Great writer, shitty author (and seemingly person).
I don't expect Patrick Rothfoss to finish the series, and frankly, I don't know if I want him too. He's just too radical left and I can't see him passing up a chance to make his last book all about The Message tm. It's a shame, because I enjoyed his books, even the Auri novella.
I’m fairly certain he sold the tv or movie rights to the Hamilton guy and imo he’s not allowed to finish the series lest he harm it even further than he did with the second book
I doubt his parrot wrote back. It's a terrible typist. He really is that nice of a guy, but is very busy now. Those who know him try to say everything quickly to him as fans and business folk surround him at conventions.
Still had time to write 3-4 books which the crowdfunding was set up to publish :p
Which means inviting him to the barbecue is going to get a no.
