Gun Control Bill H.R.127. Well this is terrifying
posted 5 years ago by Baron_Bubbles 5 years ago by Baron_Bubbles +61 / -0

The bill in question

Two particularly disturbing parts

(2) PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION: Psychologist must be approved by the AG.

(3) DATABASE: All gun owners will be listed in a publicly accessible database.

Let me guess,
Man wants to be woman. Sane.
Man wants weapon to protect life and property. Insane.

Lol, if this passes and you have to pass your evaluation just open with, "as a trans-person..."

All I know is that using this gun database will be pretty useful if you wanted to rob someone.

Making it easier for criminals to get guns and harder for law abiding citizens to keep them.

Did you miss the other concerning bit:

MILITARY-STYLE WEAPONS LICENSE

What is a "MILITARY-STYLE WEAPONS" and how does it differ from a normal one?

Not American, so I don't know if that's an established category, just rings a little familiar to an "Assault weapon" that's then creatively redefined to include anything other than matchlock muskets...

creatively redefined to include anything other than matchlock muskets

You're not far off. Examples of what would be:

  • Semi auto rifle with a detachable magazine, folding stock and a pistol grip. Hell you could modify a Ruger 10/22 to have that stuff.
  • Semi auto pistol that has a threaded barrel and is heavy or looks scary
  • Semi auto shotgun with two of about any accessory for the most part

Not the full list just some examples I made up, but it's it's pretty broadly defined.

Their definition of "Military style weapon" and "assault weapon" is any gun that looks scary regardless of any actual function of the gun. Just look at their obsession with banning pistol grips, which are, generally speaking, an entirely ergonomic feature.

And this isn't the first time an aUsSaUlT wEaPoN ban has come up. Most notably the ban passed by old Billy boy back in 1994, lasted for ten years, and did jack shit all to curb gun crime. There have been several tries to reinstate the since 2004 but they have all failed.

It doesn’t. Just bs terms made up by politicians to define something they are scared of

– Kienan 2 points 5 years ago +2 / -0

If it's anything like the other bills, a "military-style weapon" is, with a few exceptions, any semi-automatic centerfire rifle. So almost every rifle outside of bolt-actions, 22s, and your occasional muzzleloader. Depending on interpretation, many pistols and some shotguns would even be considered "military-style" as well, due to magazine capacity.

You're also looking at massive "taxes" when registering said guns and magazines for the totally benign registry.

I'm just glad I lost all my guns in a boating accident.

Introduced by a representative from Texas, no less. Surely this will stop all the illegal gun crime instead of hurting legal gun owners! Certainly a public database of gun owners would never be abused, either.

It's just common sense!

Sheila Jackson Lee is a transplant from New York so there's a bit of the problem. Texas also seems to be succumbing to bloated democrat cities fucking over the rest of the state like in Oregon, Washing, New York, etc.

It's estimated that the ATF can handle 15,000 cases a year with the new staffing. If a single state openly defies them and refuses to enforce any gun laws, they won't have the resources to handle it. People will be cranking out machine guns everywhere.

There's an interesting approach pending in the Texas state house right now that would make it a crime for any officer of the state or below (city, county, etc) to enforce any federal firearm restrictions enacted after January 1. Force ATF to do it.

Another that makes any firearm, ammo, etc. that's made in Texas exempt from federal regulation as they are intrastate commerce.

I hope these things pass and in some other states as well. Be defiant and force them to come try to enforce themselves

That bill is total bullshit. Apparently even my heavy .22 WMR bolt action rifle would be banned for having a 15 round magazine, that is if it's not a military-style weapon by some rule. If I were to use it for typical short-range self defense it would damn near be better as a club.

$800/yr tax they call "insurance". Psychological evaluation that not only would be whatever the hell rules they make up but requires family members to testify too. 15 years in prison for violating? They pass this and enforce it at all they really will be starting a war.

I'm glad to see Texas legislature making a bunch of state bills to try to fight this shit, but also disappointed to see this bill come from Texas. The leftist parts of Texas are leftist to the extreme, but even then they will piss off some liberals with that crap.

“(B) ACCESS.—The Attorney General shall make the contents of the database accessible to all members of the public, all Federal, State, and local law enforcement authorities, all branches of the United States Armed Forces, and all State and local governments, as defined by the Bureau.

"So now we know who has all the scary guns". Yeah, and now actually scary people will be able to take a quick look to see if you are unarmed or not. I know if I was planning a robbery and there was a database of all gun owners and their guns, it would be an absolute must to check and make sure my targets don't have guns.

as part of the psychological evaluation, the licensed psychologist interviewed any spouse of the individual, any former spouse of the individual, and at least 2 other persons who are a member of the family of, or an associate of, the individual to further determine the state of the mental, emotional, and relational stability of the individual in relation to firearms.

Have an ex that doesn't want you to have a gun? Get fucked, they can just say they don't think you're mentally fit to own one.

“(3) DENIAL OF LICENSE

“(II) on account of conduct that endangers self or others.

Would attending a protest for the "wrong" reason count as dangerous conduct?

“(dd) (1) It shall be unlawful for any person to possess ammunition that is 0.50 caliber or greater.

“(2) (A) It shall be unlawful for any person to possess a large capacity ammunition feeding device.

“(31) The term ‘large capacity ammunition feeding device’ means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition, but does not include an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition.”.

End goal will be single shot .22s only, and you're only allowed to carry 5 rounds at a time.

This is truly awful.

They might because they actually want this. They have gone after our guns for a long time and now they have the power to pull this off. They'll probably "compromise" with the Republicans and reduce just enough of the terrible aspects of the bill, so there isn't a strong backlash. Then they will reduce gun owners right more and more.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 5 ▼
– Newuserfromvoat 5 points 5 years ago +5 / -0

We aren't waiting on you to call for direct action, and I'm sure a fair amount of people respect pacifism.

Still, there is a big difference between wishful thinking "the courts will handle it" and a call to action. If the courts do pass this you and presumably other quakers will just turn in your weapons based on your response. I guess hiding them is not a direct action either, so that is a possibility.

Regardless, even if you did support a "direct action" it would not be smart to comment that on a public forum.

You remember how Duluth came to be? The initial rules got a fuckload of women arrested. Rightfully so, because a fuckload of women are violent psychopaths that get away with it because every man gets taught that you don't hit women, so they lash out without a second thought about the man defending themselves.

When they realised that this fuckload of women got arrested they changed the rules so they could arrest the victim instead.

It will be similar with this but instead of gender they'll use ideology and identity.

At least there won't be less gun deaths in america. Because the black thugs urban culture connoiseur surely will see the errors of their way and finally become a law abiding citizen that doesn't use illegal means to kill other people of minority
