At this point, I have to think they really are the chosen people. Just a matter of whose choice.

It's not every day that a religious leader meets one of their gods. Only a little surprising that Crockett let her do that to her shoes. I suppose Jasmine deserves some credit for having the wherewithal to not publicly treat her like how plaques oftentimes treat dogs.

"FOMO" isn't necessarily just about shared media content or chasing likes for validation. There's a risk of losing some communication with friends in some cases. I imagine that's why some people would feel like they need their friends to abandon a particular site with them. It would potentially serve to maintain personal connections.

So they betrayed their country for $40,000-$50,000?

Some sold themselves really cheap.

I imagine there's more to it than the known and reported lobby figures.

Los Angeles dethrones Chicago [for most rats]

Do the rodents of unusual size in New York City not count as rats? If they're not as populous, I would have to imagine they at least match up in volume.

Ratio is a twitter term that has morphed in meaning. In this case, the reply tweet posted here got more likes (by a multiplicative factor) than the tweet it responded to.

Yes. They pulled off a prank on academic journals. It was a great joke, and (re-)exposed the idiocy in academia for a minute. I believe it just happened to come at a time that 'wokeness' was getting discovered by normies, so it gave Lindsay a bigger platform.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grievance_studies_affair

The grievance studies affair was the project of a team of three authors—Peter Boghossian, James A. Lindsay, and Helen Pluckrose—to highlight what they saw as poor scholarship and erosion of standards in several academic fields.
Taking place over 2017 and 2018, their project entailed submitting bogus papers to academic journals on topics from the field of critical social theory such as cultural, queer, race, gender, fat, and sexuality studies to determine whether they would pass through peer review and be accepted for publication. Four of these papers were subsequently published, which the authors cited in support of their contention.

There's exactly one: Vlad Guerrero Jr., the team's star first baseman.

I think they're just trying to agitate RINOs and boomers. Regressives presently have very few options to broaden appeal for democrats. The government shutdown doesn't seem to be hurting republicans much (yet?), if at all. They're throwing out all kinds of pictures lately to drive at "normal" American values. ICE striking a "Catholic priest" or arresting the comically overweight WGN "journalist," Antifa and their "peaceful inflatable costume dance parties," Bush Jr's former chef or whatever getting deported, and the recent "No Kings" BS.

Fear

What are they even calling fear? Or is the idea that hatred only stems from fear (muh stah wahs)?
We already have our xenos, islamos, trans, homos, so what's one more phobia to make up?

we've already got good FZero, Starfox, Metroid, and Mario knockoffs.

Where might I learn more about this?

You (and some others) may be onto something, but it's going to be nearly impossible to prove a connection to 'the powers that be'. Presently, I think some of the new attention is really coming from people who want to connect the shooter to Nick. See a couple of short tweet threads linked here and here. Though, to add to your argument, the New York Times put out an article about Nick on the 9th. https://archive.is/pJzGz Subtle as an elephant, as it may be.

Hooters

If I recall correctly, characters lose about 75% of their power in those settings unless their charisma is high enough. Kinda tough fighting an imp in that scenario.

What is a human? That may need to be included among societal questions like 'when does life begin' or 'who should be allowed to vote'.
I turned on the sound for one of the clips posted just in time to hear a newsman say the thing shouldn't have been on that train. It didn't buy a ticket. Peak morbid comedy.

Correct. Justine Damond. Just not a mother, only engaged.

June 28, 2022
Mohamed Noor, who fatally shot Justine Ruszczyk Damond in Minneapolis in 2017 and became the first former Minnesota police officer convicted of an on-duty homicide, was released from prison Monday morning.
Noor, 36, left the North Dakota State Penitentiary in Bismarck about 8:30 a.m. and is now under court-ordered supervision until Jan. 24, 2024, when his sentence ends, according to DOC spokesman Nicholas Kimball.
Noor originally began serving his sentence in May 2019 at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Oak Park Heights but was transferred to the prison in North Dakota's capital city in July 2019 for his own safety, authorities said.
By all accounts, Noor was a compliant prisoner wherever he was in custody over the slightly more than three years that he was locked up.

Then they start interviewing customers and some liberal white dude starts talking about supporting a local chef.

There's potentially a 50-50 shot that the customer was a local (heh) urnalist or media figure. I've watched a segment of DDD going to a place in my area, and one of the customers they included was a radio personality for a local station. On top of getting restaurant suggestions, the production guys probably need a few food writers or "professionals" to get a better variety (heh) of "customer" comments.

The only way I could possibly imagine to steel man this position

You need more imaginary imaginative tulpas, my friend. Actually, everyone simply needs more tulpas in general.
Here's another possibility: Small, unopened, cardboard ammo box gets lost, wedged under a fence or by some trash can. Box deteriorates over time, eventually spills out the contents. Regressed man finds shiny trinkets on the ground and likens them to crystals, only to find they are not magic items from his beloved fiction.
