The female equivalent of the friend zone is the "situationship" or "friends with benefits". Women withhold sex. Men withhold commitment. Most women suffer this fate nowadays because they are all chasing the same small handful of men.
Men dont friendzone women because aside from sex women have almost nothing to offer. When was the last time you had a long, fulfilling conversation with a woman?
The 'childhood friend' archetype in anime seems like it fits that bill to me. I'm thinking of the also-ran heroine archetype who either out of insecurity or self-sabotage helps to hook a male friend up with other women despite wanting to press the advantage herself.
I can't think of any examples out of hand but I feel like I've seen the dynamic irl. Sigma male types and guys who don't show obvious interest - or sometimes guys who've already been friendzoned themselves - sometimes have female friends who'll examine their interest in other women as a type of flirting, or to find out if they're gay. The more the guy plays along, the more the initial woman risks bracketing herself as 'just a friend', whether she likes it or not.
Examples... How about FF7 Tifa for those who pick Aeris?
But she knows she's both second place AND in a weird spot romantically. That the dead girl Aeris was his actual love interest, and that Zack is actually the one who loved her, and Cloud inherited some of Zack's memories, and thus his affection for her, so it's a secondhand love, at least all the initial attraction.
An actual situationship, unlike most presentations of it.
Annie from Community. I think Jeff for the most part resisted due to her age.
and Lindsay in season 3 of Arrested Development lol. Technically, she got friend-zoned but it was a late in the series one off joke. But if the series didn't get cancelled? Who knows how long they'd run with it for a bigger payoff later. I'm talking her the part there she found out she's adopted and wanted to be with her brother Michael, not the other friend-zone with Bob Loblaw.
I don't know exactly what was going on here, but Keanu says he never realized that Sandra Bullock actually wanted to date him even though he obviously liked her and she literally threw herself at him in this clip (as ridiculous as that sounds)
I mean if it were anyone else I wouldn't believe this for a second, but it's Keanu so I'll entertain it.
"Famous" is tricky. I know that Vedal and Anny in the vtuber sphere actually fell into that, with Anny recusing herself from their work and arrangements due to catching feelings while he was simply obsessed with his work and content, and given Vedal is the third-most-subscribed Twitch streamer of all time (more than even some mainstream media appearers like the dog-zapper guy) he is somewhat famous.
Anime have plenty of dumb-as-bricks harem protags who friendzone the entire group, but that isn't really "famous" except in the conglomerate of the trope itself.

Men don't friendzone women because they know that women make for pretty awful platonic friends.

Depends on the woman. I have a number of female friends who have been great people to have in my court when the need arises.
Monika Lewinsky and Bill Clinton
I don't think being an Israeli honeypot counts as being "friend-zoned."
I'd probably have to look up real life yanderes for that list.
Quite a few women don't take rejection well ESPECIALLY when you include fame into the mix.

Tifa fits the bill.
Except aren't they a couple in Advent Children?
I don't remember AC at all and feel better for it. Weird because I was still young enough to feel fanboy hype at the time.
AC was ground zero for all the stupid, convoluted shit we now suffer through with the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, most recent being FF7 Rebirth.
They are, somewhat.

Vanilla Sky was about this? Except it wasn't the friendzone it was the pump-and-dump-zone.
Women don't get friendzoned they get fuckzoned
Eowyn from Lord of the Rings.
The orks ended up having better food.
I would say being friend zoned for a woman is a guy who just wants sex when the woman wants a relationship
Holezoned.
And they've complained about that for much longer than the inverse.
Martha from Tennent's second Doctor Who season.

I never watched Arrested Development.
Annie is friend-zoned twice. First it was Troy and then by Jeff.
Probably because she's a massive perv.
She’s very sexually guarded in the whole show
Joan in Clone High
Half of Lord Byron's lovers?
Lena dumbham? I don't know anything about her romantic history, but I bet she got politely rejected all the time
Hopefully she was impolitely rejected even more often.

Is he mildly autistic?
It's a PR meet-and-greet, which means that they're still acting.
He's just a odd, guileless person in my opinion
He's a Markiplier hapa (or the other way around really)not Elliot Rodger hapa.
That's not friend zoned. He'd have to know she liked him and he would would tell her he isn't interested in her that way.
From Sandra's perspective, it's the same thing though
Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth.
Don Draper and Peggy Olson.
In the media not really. In real life quite a few lol
I've known a few in real life, they were all useless whales.
I'm such a nice girl, why do guys only go for bitches?

Famous, well-known, niche following
