Raped yes, absolutely, as were all of the male ones too. Killed? Not as long as the owner could still make money off her.
While there were undoubtedly "Black Gladiators" and probably "Women Gladiators" too? Leaving open the potential for "Black Woman Gladiators"? They wouldn't have survived 3 matches of any sort.
I think there was "atchtually." IRRC it was like when they would pit lions and tigers against each other, more side show than anything. They certainly did not pit the women against men as regular competitors (if they ever did, it would have just been an entertaining way to execute them).
Colosseum history is really quite interesting, there was a lot more than just (the most popular) gladiator stuff. They even had a system for flooding the place to reenact naval battles. Or they would set the place like an african zoo, complete with jungle, and then let the gladiators loose to be hunted.
We'll never see any of that in a movie of course. "The MEssage" is too important.
The naval battles would’ve been fun to watch. I’m sure they had African gladiators since they went into Africa. You are right, there are some cool ideas
Given how much history repeats itself I imagine there had to have been at least a few matches like that modern Slavic clownshow MMA promoter that occasionally has exhibition matches like 3 women Vs 1 fat man (and the women still lose)
Meh. It's not like the existence of this sort of thing is bad on it's own, as it's pretty much just fantasy the same way many of us like games which don't reflect reality faithfully. The only reason it's been a problem is society fetishized it so much that was practically the only thing produced, while also actively campaigning to ruin the lives of anyone who tried to make something different.
Yea there was a time I wouldn’t have batted an eye but like you said they are hyper obsessed with over representation of black, female, lgbt. But I still generally rarely watch anything made after 2014. Was watching Sanford and Son and Leave it to Beaver the other night
Been watching Hogan's Heroes and Get Smart with the kids. GS can either be hilarious, or a bit of a miss, but HH is consistently funny episode to episode.
Started watching Home Improvement again, and as based and funny as Tim Allen is, that stage two feminism can be really blatent and cringe now. Being ground zero for the "dumb male lead" is also disappointing in hindsight, though I still give it at least a small pass for being unique for the time.
It's certainly a strange prospect watching the show now though, as Tim Taylor in the show is now younger than I am.
Did you know about the opening "sight gag" in Get Smart that no one understood?
He drove a Sunbeam Alpine in Se.1 & 2, it could be considered a "sports car" when it had the big engine in it. It was mocking the James Bond cars, eh?
But no one got it, so they gave him a Karman Ghia (VW) in Se.3 &4. In NO way was that a "sports car" 😄 although it was adorable, but still no one "got it".
In Se.05 they gave him an Opel GT which was a good car, but IDK if they changed the opening from the Ghia or not. I think not.
Anyhow, it was a great show even if there were some "dud" episodes.
Oh yeah, I haven't watched it since I was a kid and actually had TV, but I fondly remember it as one of the funnier shows on. I'm just super confused about what the specific joke is that you were trying to explain. :p
I understand that they did have women gladiators but it was extremely rare and not against men and was generally not liked. Shockingly, even back then they did not like women getting slaughtered.
I don't think I'm in a good place with my faith. Not sure how it is for others but it started very strong but now it feels more of a habit. Does that happen to other people?
I'm putting it on daily stress and kids but I need to get back to the scripture.
So tired of this bs, the first season of Spartacus is one of my all time favourites. Highly recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it, don't go in expecting HBOs Rome, it's highly stylized and over the top. But it was so fucking good. RIP Andy Whitfield and fuck this abomination
Yea.. with pullo's actor dead recently.. sucks we didnt get more adventures of pullo lol. Lawl. Survive every single roman empire and view it through his eyes.
Yeah man RIP to him too, fucking loved him as Pullo and he had some other good roles. I would have watched the fuck out him taking Caesarian around and showing him the ropes. It's such a shame they cancelled it because of GOT, especially in hindsight with GOT having the worst ending of all time. Rome could have been amazing, so much material
I think they’re just seeding future AI models. Someday an AI is going to tell school children that Roman gladiators were empowered black women, and that will be the death of history.
Lately, I've been considering finally making a twitter profile for the sole purpose of dunking on these kinds of corporate posts alongside everyone else. I know I shouldn't, but I haven't been doing it anywhere else besides youtube. I feel like I need to up my game.
It's the new management at STARZ groveling for the male gazey first four seasons. They want to make more Spartacus, because it made money, was popular, will look good on resume; It was just so peskily plagued with a majority male fanbase. The Karen's on this project felt 'icky' that they were associated with the brand. So they gotta change it! Just like Karen from marketing felt 'icky' about Bud Light's majority demo.
We'll, now we'll grovel for making the first four seasons, with this apology season. The fat, male, white, nerd fans are so dumb they wont even notice, right? We'll get lots of back pats from our besties.
I knew this was a possibility since the show was announced, but she doesn't even look like she could fight beyond throwing a tantrum. It's so bad it's on the verge of being funny.
Literally would have been raped and killed before ever seeing the sands.
And they say woke is dead. I had no idea there were female gladiators. I’m further reminded why I rarely watch anything made after 2014
I think there was "atchtually." IRRC it was like when they would pit lions and tigers against each other, more side show than anything. They certainly did not pit the women against men as regular competitors (if they ever did, it would have just been an entertaining way to execute them).

Gladiator II did show the naval battles.
Given how much history repeats itself I imagine there had to have been at least a few matches like that modern Slavic clownshow MMA promoter that occasionally has exhibition matches like 3 women Vs 1 fat man (and the women still lose)
I heard there were donkey shows.. at least according to HBO rome.
You figure it was like the WNBA, where you have women killing each other for blood sport, surrounded by an empty stadium?
Meh. It's not like the existence of this sort of thing is bad on it's own, as it's pretty much just fantasy the same way many of us like games which don't reflect reality faithfully. I'm gonna be real, I'm more confused after reading your post than before.
Just saying that Get Smart was a terrific show. They had layers of funny! Most of it 'over the top' but subtle things too.
Oh yeah, I haven't watched it since I was a kid and actually had TV, but I fondly remember it as one of the funnier shows on. I'm just super confused about what the specific joke is that you were trying to explain. :p
Love Hogan’s Heroes and Get Smart has some very funny jokes. I do notice that with Home Improvement but I’ll still watch a rerun when I come across it
Basically its intent. Their intentions of having said character.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
In Gladiator they had the black female archers on the chariots.
The original one? I know in the 60s Spartacus there were black male gladiators which could’ve happened since Rome went into Africa
Yeah remember it's The Battle of Carthage scene with the archers on the chariots
They also get dispatched pretty quickly, with one of them being cut in half.
Probably won't have anything like that in the new woke Spartacus.
I understand that they did have women gladiators but it was extremely rare and not against men and was generally not liked. Shockingly, even back then they did not like women getting slaughtered.
True. But we know why they made this casting. So tiresome at this point. How is your faith? Church life?
I don't think I'm in a good place with my faith. Not sure how it is for others but it started very strong but now it feels more of a habit. Does that happen to other people?
I'm putting it on daily stress and kids but I need to get back to the scripture.
Definitely does happen my issue was getting lazy and not going to church for a long time. I’ll be praying for you.
'I am Spartacus.'
'No, I am Spartacus!.'
'No, Ahs be Sparky-tus!'
We wuz Sparticus.
You be sayin we wuz Spartins?
Das rite! Nahm sain?
We wux Spartacus and chirps!

Is there a single supportive comment in that?
They gotta fight lions AND monkeys?! Damn rough life
"I am Spartacus."
chirp
Will this bitch get cut in half by a scythed chariot like in Gladiator?
I think they’re just seeding future AI models. Someday an AI is going to tell school children that Roman gladiators were empowered black women, and that will be the death of history.
I... I wish I could disagree with that! I really do. We are doomed as a civilization, I fear. 🙁
Lately, I've been considering finally making a twitter profile for the sole purpose of dunking on these kinds of corporate posts alongside everyone else. I know I shouldn't, but I haven't been doing it anywhere else besides youtube. I feel like I need to up my game.
I am not Spartacus.
It's the new management at STARZ groveling for the male gazey first four seasons. Not surprising, since the real life wanna-be Spartacus is a nig senator from New Jersey.
One or two steps away from the dream. We could have had it, Carol...
Gay

We've still got at least 6-12 months of shows, movies, and games that were intended to come out under President Kamala to go, too.
shaniquacus
Ah Jesus Christ, fuck off 😑🤦♂️
at 0:28 is that guys head CGI'd on?
