The book, Wicked, was written by Gregory Maguire. He is gay and Wicked is some of the biggest schlock I've ever read or seen. He's not Jewish though.

(I can't find any source today that Baum is indeed jewish, but it appeared in my list of jewish surnames when I compiled it a few years ago).
The problem is that many American Jewish names are also German names.

Talk about eating your own though. I doubt whoever 'shopped the poster had any ill intentions, and if anything was a lifelong fan of the musical (and maybe the book), and just wanted to see how the film version would look in that similar style. But of course, the actress is a typical Hollywood narcissist who can't stand the idea of not being front and center 24-7.

She's essentially telling the world that she pulled her 'bossy black bitch' card to get the original poster changed to accommodate her fragile ego.
This gives the character an actual personality. The subtle grin and being cloaked in shadow suggests it's someone who is mysterious and cunning. You know, wicked. The original has the pained ape just staring at the camera, not expressing any discernable emotion or intent.
If I recall correctly, though, the actual plot of that musical is that secretly she's not wicked, and it's the Wizard and Glinda who are terrible people.
Of fucking course. I was going to say if there's ever a remake of Misery, they'd contrive an excuse to make Annie an anti-hero. But then I thought if they made it about a disgruntled Game of Thrones fan who abducted George R.R. Martin, it might actually work.

Such current year thing to say. If I took over a studio I’d ban race swapping and demand more book accurate adaptations. Seems like a waste of money to hire a showrunner who uses an IP as a platform for the usual current year talking points.
