Hell, the only reason you play as the titular 'Ghost' - and you have no choice in that - is because the character is following the influence of women. The 'ghost' nickname is thought up and spread around the populace by your badass lady bandit sidekick, while your MC stands there unhappy about being called it, at first, but too cucked to protest much. There are male samurai in the story (not many) who criticise Jin's methods, and those conversations weirdly come off like a pussywhipped husband getting talked to by friends who don't want to criticise his bitch wife too much.
Not to get into too much spoiler detail, but the later themes are all about how honour is dumb while poison (historically the woman's weapon) is great. Unprincipled pragmatism and sneakery is the only real way to get what you want in the world. It's No Bad Tactics, Only Bad targets: The Game, while every male connection is treacherous, naive, unreliable or cruel. It pays lip service to every exotic, cosmetic aspect of Japan - pretty nature and temples, cuddly foxes, cool samurai armour - and spares no lip service at all for the value of honour.

First of all, the woman is his best student ever, sorry Jin. But that's to be expected, all the female warriors in the game are incredible - apart from that one sidequest samurai lady who shows up (to train male rebels) then gets in trouble (because she's too brave and righteous and fights too many evil men at once).
But then the rest of the conversations through every part of that archer quest consists of Jin talking shit at the sensei. 'What did you do to make her this mad?' 'What are you hiding?' 'Gonna kill your own student huh...' All while there is immediate evidence of her being a willing mongol collaborator and enthusiastic killer of japanese peasants, all the story can think of is how to turn this around on the male authority figure. Right after her cruellest murder trap, when you chase her down the first time, Jin doesn't immediately kill her as he would with any man, instead he just gives her a chance to say 'sensei is hiding the truth from you!' then escape.
I never finished that sidequest but I read the summary of how it concludes just now and laughed. Just as predictable as Ghost of Yotei.
The writers have no idea how to ever ascribe any wrongdoing to women, except by occasionally floating the question that they're being too violent (which is another feminist fantasy), but every time in those cases the reason for it is that men made a cruel world so it's women's responsibility to fix it, by discarding dumb male principles and killing all the bad men from the shadows.
The final sidequest in the DLC is like this too. Big Bertha's men turn against her for bending her own rules to spare her daughter, rules she previously used as justification have men executed, presumably. Complex situation and a legit grievance, possibly, yet Jin unquestioningly sides with fattie to help slaughter her own men and save her junkie daughter. I said fuck it and just tried to run out of the location boundary at that point.

Excepting the infuriating Archer Girl sidestory, which seemed out of place even in the game itself with how it literally never lets you see her so it can Mary Sue the fuck out of her.
Even the combat was incredibly fun once you got your mind around it, enough so that they patched in a stupid coop mode months later with it (that they also made way too hard so you couldn't play with randos and needed a 4 man group coordinating).
Its a shame they tacked on a ridiculous open world of padding onto it, so most people threw it away justifiably before it came into its own.
On release you never physically saw her as far as I remember. She was always one step ahead of you and by the time you caught her she was on a boat in the distance and your archer mentor was like "she paid for her sins, let her go" and she gets away completely.

I had a blast in the online because I had 2-3 friends willing to play, the raids were more frustrating because you do need 4 cohesive players to match it. However the co-op missions were a breeze for me and my buddy running high tier assassin in Kappa masks.
I didn't have any friends with a PS4 willing to play, so I was just pure pugs, which meant I was unable to progress pretty quickly. Might be less of an issue now with it being on Steam.
The overall difficulty just felt a bit overtuned for something launching half a year later, when the player count was probably 10% of what it was. Meaning you basically had to bring your own friends to enjoy what it was going to throw at you.
If it's like the first game but with this character transplanted in place of Jin Sakai, then this game will not survive. I like the original even though it's a glorified collectathon with supremely easy combat. The story and environments do a lot of the heavy lifting, but a good main character is necessary for a game like this to be compelling. With this revelation there's zero chance I play the second.

Jin wasn't really a good character. He got the job done barely, but was carried heavily by the rest of the characters until about the half way point when he unlocks his super mode ability and starts actually developing a personality.
But that's an even bigger knock against them. A bland, neutral character is more than sufficient if the rest of the writing holds up, but a character that actively detracts will pull down anything else around it.
I liked him because of the honor vs. pragmatism angle you mentioned in your other comment. He was trying to walk both paths, and I thought that was really interesting.
Once that was finally realized he did get a lot more interesting, the second half Jin was a really solid character.
But for most of the first area and a good chunk of the second one he is basically comatose from the culture shock and just completely devoid of anything. For good reason I suppose, but it hurts the game's first impression a lot.
Its very much a game where I recommend people skip all the collectables in the first area and just shotgun the side quests and then missions to get the game moving, because if you get distracted chasing foxes and charms you'll burn out before anything good happens.
