I mean, I think tge panda wouldn't survive the copulation. And if they did skip that and just injected the sperm into a panda, the violent honey badger DNA would make the baby come out like a chest burster.
Look up panda births if you haven't seen one before. It's already like a chest buster. They're surreal animals in so many ways.
Pandas are bears, Ursidae, while honey badgers are mustelids, Mustelidae. Both are of the same mammalian Order of Carnivora, but it's the same magnitude of difference that exists between hominids, Hominidae, and tarsiers, Tarsiidae, despite both being of the same mammalian Order of Primates.
At best you might be able to John Hammond giant pandas with one of the seven other species of bear but even then any offspring would very likely be sterile mules if they even managed to survive.

People cannot seem to wrap their heads around the fact that extinction is a natural thing that happened constantly and regularly for all of history.
The only reason people even give half a shit about this specific one is because its cute, and they cannot come to terms with admitting they are that shallow.
Part of the problem is that pandas are the kind of animal that generate donations which can then be put towards other less generally appealing animals that are also endangered. The general public like cute and fluffy animals. Wet and slimey ones less so. So pandas end of as the flagship species for conservation efforts.
And if those donations outweigh the cost of keeping them alive, that would be fine.
I don't believe that is the case, as this is China and they are both hilariously incompetent and greedy. That money is never going to reach the hands it deserves to be in beyond a token level to keep appearances.
I was more meaning from a global NGO PoV. Specific countries are going to be different brands of incompetent for other reasons but still have the natural resource on their side to offset things. Mostly.
